Last Wednesday would have marked the 78th birthday of Dr Robert ‘Bob’ Moog – the man who revolutionized music with the invention of the Moog synthesizer.

This instrument was seized up the likes of The Beatles, The Doors, Stevie Wonder in the late 60s, but it was the introduction of the Mini Moog in 1970 which ushered in a new age for synthesized music. Thanks to its portability and price, it was seized upon by aspiring electronic musicians, paving the way for prog rockers like Yes, Tangerine Dream and synth pioneers Kraftwerk .

This week Google dedicated their homepage to the Moog, and with such an outpouring of analog synth love online this week, what better perfect subject to base a playlist on for this Sunday’s Now Playing on?

We want to hear your suggests for the ultimate Moog playlist. It could be:
* Pioneers of the Moog like those listed above or Emmerson Lake & Palmer, Wendy Carlos, Jan Hammer and Kraftwerk
* Current artists who wouldn’t be making music in the same way if it wasn’t for the Moog – we’re thinking The Chemical Brothers, Azari & III, Orbital and more
* Music from 1964, the year the first commercial Moog was made available which includes the Supremes, Roy Orbison and The Beach Boys
* And if you want, go on the Google Doodle which allows you to play with a Moog online and record your own track and send it to us – like Brett Domino

Get in touch with us in the usual ways – on Facebook, Tweet #Moog6Music, e-mail the team or drag a track into our collaborative Spotify Playlist.

And make sure you tune into 6 Music from 6pm on Sunday to hear the playlist with Tom Robinson.

This Sunday from 6pm on Now Playing we’re inviting you to pick the music through the filter of Paul Smith (@PaulSmithMusic) from Maximo Park.

Paul will be on his Twitter account for the duration of the show taking on board your suggestions for tracks and picking his favourite which we’ll play on the show.

He said: "I love sharing and enthusing about music with people and Twitter is now one of my main outlets for telling the world what I'm enjoying right there and then.

“I'm thankful to Tom Robinson and 6Music for allowing me to inflict some choices onto their loyal listenership, and to allow Maximo Park's audience to suggest some of their own favourites."

He’s already chosen a couple of his favourites to kick start the show – we won’t tell you what they are just yet but they include a Motown legend, a English art rock band from the 1970s and 80s and a track which begins with 16 seconds of silence.

But there’s plenty of opportunity for you to influence the show, by suggesting:
* Your favourite tracks by Maximo Park be it singles, B-sides or rarieties
* Work from producers who have worked with them like Gil Norton and Paul Epworth
* Acts you think inspired Maximo Park – perhaps The Jam, XTC or Wire
* Some of their contemporaries from the North East like The Futureheads and Field Music
* Or those newer kids on the block who you think probably listened to Maximo Park CDs as teenagers

As always it’s up to you (well and Paul this week) so let us and him know what you think by Tweeting #Maximo6Music, leave a message on this blog or our Facebook page, drag a track onto our Spotify playlist or send us an e-mail.

And remember to tune in on Sunday with Paul Smith and Tom Robinson.

Thirty years ago in Manchester a club opened which changed the way people enjoyed, listened and made music.

The Haçienda opened on Whitworth Street West in the city centre in May 1982 and despite famously being hideously mis-managed and disorganized, it remained open until 1997. Largely made financially viable by funds from Joy Division and New Order record sales, it gave rise to acid house and rave music which became such an important social movement in Britain.

So as 6 Music ends its celebration of dance music, we at Now Playing thought it only right to honour this wonderful home of electronic music by asking you to share your memories of the club, the artists who played there and the music which spawned from it.

You could go for:
* Bands and artists synonymous with the Manchester club like New Order, 808 State and The Happy Mondays
* People you may have seen perform there from Madonna to Spiritualized who were the last live act at the venue
* Musicians on Factory Records like Joy Division, Quando Quango or A Certain Ratio
* Acid House classics which sent the venue wild from Voodoo Ray to Infinity via Rhythm Is A Mystery, Don't Scandalize Mine and It's Alright
*The bands who played there pre the acid-house explosion, The Smiths to Nico via OMD, John Cale and The Fall

As always, the power is in your hands so let us know what you want by Tweeting us using #FAC516Music, leave a comment on this blog or on our Facebook page, e-mail us or drag a track onto our Spotify playlist – and be sure to tune in on Sunday from 6pm to relive the Haçienda.

What The Chemical Brothers haven’t done in electronic music frankly isn’t worth doing. They’ve had dancefloors across the world jumping in time to Block Rockin’ Beats, they’ve headlined festivals from Glastonbury to Japan, they’ve had number one albums and recently had people dancing in the aisles of cinemas with their film Don’t Think.

So as 6 Music kick of their celebrations of dance culture through April – what better way for Now Playing to celebrate than with a show dedicated to one of Britain’s best products – The Chemical Brothers, 15 years and a day after they released their incredible album Dig Your Own Hole. This record featured Noel Gallgher on track Setting Sun, and also brought Don’t Stop the Rock and The Private Psychedelic Reel into our lives.

Childhood classmates Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands started their production lives as The Dust Brothers after the production duo made famous for their work with The Beastie Boys, before a legal threat and the release of Leave Home gave rise to The Chemical Brothers we know and love.

They’ve gone on to produce some of the most seminal dance records of all time and have developed one of the most pioneering live shows around.

We want your help constructing the Ultimate Chemical Brothers playlist, there’s so much to choose from but you could suggest:
* Your favourite Chemical Brothers tracks from Galvanize to Star Guitar, all the B-Sides and rarities – you put them forward and we’ll try and dig it out.
* Vocalists who have sung on Chemical Brothers tracks like Bernard Sumner, Noel Gallagher, The Magic Numbers or Wayne Coyne.
* Some of the other acts, which helped bring big beat to the masses – Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, Underworld etc.
* Perhaps some hip-hop which was their first musical love – Tom describes Public Enemy’s Yo! Bum Rush the Show as life changing.
* Or some of the new breed of electronic music producers who are trying to follow in their steps like Rustie, Scuba and L-Vis 1990.

Let us know what you think we have to include in the Ultimate Chemical Brother Playlist by leaving a comment here on the blog, joining the conversation on Facebook and Twitter by using #Chems6Music, by e-mail or dragging a track onto our Spotify Playlist.

And remember to tune into the show at our new time of 6pm on Sunday afternoon.

#Orbital6Music - help Orbital pick their ultimate playlist this Friday

It’s our birthday week here at BBC Radio 6 Music and we’re delighted that techno titans Orbital will be joining our celebrations on Friday. After they’ve finished playing live for Lauren Laverne’s show at Maida Vale, they’ll be joining Now Playing @6Music on Friday evening to choose the show playlist via Twitter.

If you’ve heard the Hartnoll Brothers’ 6 Mix shows you’ll know they have eclectic taste, but this time you can help influence what they play. From 7.30pm on Friday they’ll be playing some of their all time favourites and current earworms - but they want you to suggest tracks to add in real time using the hashtag #Orbital6Music.

From Chime to Belfast you might want to ask them to pull some of their classics out of their record bag, or maybe or something new from their new album Wonky?

Perhaps you’ll suggest some other members of dance music’s royal family who put on incredible festival performances like The Chemical Brothers, Underworld or Daft Punk?

Or perhaps it’ll be some of the music that has influenced the band, from Gary Numan and Kraftwerk, to Severed Heads and Adrian Sherwood.

Remember to Tweet using #Orbital6Music from 7pm or you can leave messages on our Facebook page, e-mail us and add tracks to the Now Playing Orbital Spotify Playlist which they’ll be able to keep an eye on as we count down to show time. Head torches are, of course, optional.

Their new tune, Drops, arrived with another glossy video this week and rumour has it the album, Kin, is coming out in June”

Tomorrow’s Cult Star Today – Perc
The Quietus says:
“Perc’s 2011 album Wicker & Steel was one of our favourites of last year. As well as his own music, a punishing welding together of techno and industrial, Ali runs his own label Perc Trax, which puts out some of the best cold steel electronic music going at the moment - check out the recent EP from Dead Sound & Videohead for the sensation of sticking your cranium through a blender.”

Must See New Band for Summer 2012 – Hey Sholay
Drowned in Sound says:
“Lots of people can sing. Many people can jump around. But to do both, so exceptionally, darting from Buckley to Mike Patton in the blink of a beat is rather special. For some reason the more sprawling key-heavy bits of their songs remind me of the Charlatans (who are always one of my favourite bands to see at festivals).”

Most Genre Defying Artist - Oufit
One for the People says:
“Outfit are one of the most exciting British bands to emerge in the last few years. They make an intriguing, enigmatic mix of sounds, culminating in a dark current of new age indie music. Outfit prove that British bands are progressing away from that very "indie" first decade of the millennium and onto exciting pastures new.”

Unsung Hero - Gordon Mills Jr.
Never Enough Notes says:
“People suggested festival toilet cleaners, box office workers and such but the clear winner was no other than Gordon Mills Jr. He’s spent the last few years championing unsigned talent, taking risks where others have ignored. He works tirelessly, producers incredible songs, and his writing credits range from Newton Faulkner to Ed Sheeran - yet nobody has really heard of him. What a firecracker!

Writes Songs Joni Mitchell Would be Proud Of - The Leisure Society
For Folk’s Sake says:
“The winner of the 'Writes Songs Joni Mitchell Would Be Proud Of' Award is The Leisure Society. Our readers voted for them because of their 'proper songwriting', 'clever lyrics' and 'beautiful melodies'.”

The Album of the Year That You Never, Ever Skipped a Track On. Ever – Bon Iver’s Bon Iver
SKoA says:
“After releasing their self-titled 2nd album in June last year, it's been on heavy repeat not just for us as a blog but our readers too. The tracks just ease into each other like a well oiled musical engine that just keeps on getting better with age. It's hard to deny that 2011-12 was a great year for Justin Vernon taking home a Grammy and gaining more than a little love from the world and the SKoA readers.

Best Free Download Album - The Weeknd - House of Balloons
The 405 says:
“When we asked the question "What is the best free download album from the past 12 months?" it soon became apparent that the category might as well have been 'What is your favourite Weeknd album from the past 12 months?" as nearly every entry was for Abel Tesfaye. His first release, House of Balloons, won hands down though

Superstar DJ in the Making – Disclosure
Data Transmission says:
“Disclosure are two very young lads - only 17 and 18 - and they are already slaying crowds from different genres from house and techno, dubstep and everything imbetween. They have a really eclectic style and just finished touring with SBTRKT. They have a very bright future ahead of them and are almost certainly superstar DJs in the making.”

Ultimate Mediterranean Anthem – Orbital’s ‘Belfast’
Geth Shooter on the 6 Mix Facebook says:
“While it's a track that makes me think of the sun rising the thing it reminds me of the most is Frank De Wulf's opening track at a night at the Eclipse in Coventry. I had the cassette tape of his set from the club and played it to death through the most of the early 90's. Beautiful, beautiful track.”

#Blur6Music - help build the Ultimate Blur Playlist

When Blur step up to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music trophy at this week’s BRIT Awards, it’ll be the culmination of a journey which began nearly 25 years ago at Goldsmiths College, London. Since then they’ve traversed numerous scenes and styles, from baggy to Britpop, via an infatuation with college rock and experimenting with world music, but never losing sight that what matters most is a good tune.

When they returned to headline Glastonbury in 2009 after a hiatus which involved everything from cheese to politics, their music felt more vital than ever. Perhaps we’d begun to take them for granted by the tail end of the 90s and needed to be reminded just how good their songs were again?

Whatever, anyone who was on Worthy Farm that evening or at Blur's shows in London’s Hyde Park which followed will know what a special place the British public hold in their hearts for Damon, Alex, Graham and Dave.

To commemorate their BRIT, this Friday night on Now Playing we want you to build the ultimate Blur inspired playlist - but we need your help and music suggestions, like:
* Their own tracks – from classics like Song 2, There’s No Other Way and Beetlebum through to forgotten singles.
* B-sides and rarities, maybe the To The End with Françoise Hardy, their cover of Elvis Costello’s Oliver’s Army or their stomping version of Maggie Amy?
* Other projects the band members have worked on or collaborating be it solo work from Gorillaz to DRC Music, Massive Attack, Elastica or Duffy
* Current bands who Blur have influenced.

Let us know by leaving a comment on the blog, Tweeting us using #Blur6Music, discussing it on our Facebook page, e-mail or add some tracks to our Spotify playlist – and listen to the show on Friday from 7pm.

#NewOrder6Music - help pick the Ultimate New Order playlist

They’ve broken boundaries between rock and electronic music, produced the best selling 12” of all time and have just been announced as Bestival’s Saturday night headliner. So, what finer time (arf!) to celebrate all things New Order than on 6 Music this Friday night?

Formed from the ashes of Joy Division in 1980, New Order became Factory Records’ flagship band, melding Hooky’s signature bass sound with Barney’s knack for a melancholy vocal line. A visit to New York in 1981 introduced them to the synthesizers and beats which informed Power Corruption & Lies (25 years old this year) but it was a jaunt to Ibiza in the mid ‘80s which really changed the game.

Returning to the UK enthused by balearic beats and club culture, they created Technique, paving the way for the indie dance crossover sound beloved of everyone from Primal Scream to Friendly Fires.

Inextricably linked to the Hacienda - in fact their royalties propped up the ailing nightclub for much of its history - New Order have continued to inspire long after the Hac closed its doors. They may have had more bust ups and comebacks than Hooky’s had broken bass guitars straps, but for anyone who sees them live this summer they’ll be guaranteed top tunes galore.

So on this week’s Now Playing @6 Music we want to create the ultimate New Order inspired playlist... but we need you help to choose them. It could be:

* Your favourite New Order records – from the classics Blue Monday and True Faith to album tracks, rarities, covers and remixes
* Influences and inspirations from Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder to Derrick May
* Collaborators from Arthur Baker to The Chemical Brothers via Billy Corgan, Bobby Gilespie and Scissor Sisters
* Any New Order solo or side projects, maybe The Other Two, Electronic or even Revenge?

Get in touch with us on Twitter using #NewOrder6Music, Facebook, e-mail and drag tracks onto our shared Spotify playlist – and remember to listen to the show on Friday (17) from 7pm.

Have you ever thought what would happen if two electronic super powers joined in a single studio. Say for example someone who largely produced the eighties as a decade, and another duo who dominated the noughties.

Well guess what – it’s happening. Nile Rodgers of Chic and Daft Punk have been in the studio and he’s Tweeted that an album is coming.

What better opportunity then to celebrate the wonderful work and influence Nile Rodgers has had on music from the first incarnation of Chic in 1970, his production work with David Bowie, Diana Ross and Grace Jones right through to his gigs at the tail end of 2011.

Take your pick from things like:
* Chic classics – Le Freak, Good Times and Everybody Dance
* Tracks which have sampled Rodgers’ productions – Sugarhill Gang, Fenech-Soler, Queen and Grandmaster Flash
* Surely Daft Punk need a mention
* They claim the material will be on their favourite R&B – what might they draw on?
* Or other kings of electronic music from the past 40 years – Brian Eno, Chemical Brothers, The Human League or have you still not had enough Kraftwerk?

Let us know what you want to play and why. Tell us your stories and what Nile Rodgers means to you.

To do this, leave a comment on our Facebook page, Tweet us using #Rodgers6Music, drag a track onto our Spotify playlist, e-mail or any other way you think you can get a message to us in time for the show tomorrow.
