#Noel6Music - help pick the Ultimate Noel Gallagher Playlist

Post categories:

This week the 6 Music Breakfast Show have been honoring some of the biggest and most influential names in music. Keith Richards and Johnny Marr have already been in chatting to Shaun during Legends Week, and Chris Cornell will be in tomorrow – but on Now Playing this Sunday we want you to help us build a show around today’s guest, Noel Gallagher

Without doubt he’s one of the most influential artists of his generation. He helped Oasis establish themselves as poster boys of Brit Pop in the 1990s, while their success continued well into the new Millennium until their acrimonious split in 2009, which set the path in motion for Noel to form the High Flying Birds.

With controversy, spats and sibling rivalries throughout his career he is unquestionably a rock and roll star, and will forevermore be regarded in the highest esteem thanks to his songwriting, musical talent and distinctive voice.

So accept our challenge and help us pick the Ultimate Noel Gallagher Playlist and make it something reflective of his status as a living legend. You could go for:
* Your favorite Oasis hit, B-side or rarity
* Something he’s made by himself as part of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
* Tracks from people he’s collaborated with be it The Chemical Brothers, Paul Weller, Goldie or even Ricky Gervais
* One of his many influences - The Smiths to The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Stone Roses
* Or one of the bands he’s inspired like Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Lilly Allen and The Cribs

Get involved by leaving your suggestions and stories below, post them on our Facebook page, you can Tweet us using #Noel6Music, e-mail us, or add your suggestions to our collaborative Spotify playlist - but be warned, Oasis aren't on Spotify so use it for influences, collaborations and so on.

If you love this legend, don’t miss out on two hours of the music he’s made, influenced or been inspired by on Sunday from 6pm.

This my first comment. Actually I want to increase my command in English. Pray for me....thanks

'Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders' = Now this would be epic with a full string section. If Noel ever plays this live I can die a happy man.

Other additions to the setlist i'd choose would be..
Rockin' Chair, Waiting for the Rapture, Some Might Say & To Be Someone....

Looking forward to the next album & tour (hopefully wont have to wait too long!)

Some of my all time favorites and I would love to see included are: Columbia, Slide Away, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Some Might Say, The Girl In The Dirty Shirt, I Hope, I Think, I Know, Going Nowhere, Headshrinker, Stay Young, Roll It Over, Where Did It All Go Wrong?, Sunday Morning Call, She Is Love, (Probably) All In The Mind, Little By Little, The Importance of Being Idle, Mucky Fingers, Let There Be Love, Waiting For The Rapture, and A Simple Game of Genius.

I saw Noel in Kansas City and it was incredible! Hope he has a lovely holiday and can't wait for his new album! :)

Ticket To Ride- The Beatles; huge influence on him
Cum On Feel The Noize- Slade; again an influence, covered it
Pretty Vacant- Sex Pistols; influenced that early Oasis guitar sound
Cigarettes and Alcohol- Oasis; defining 90's moment
Slide Away- Oasis; dare I say his first 'love' song?!
Some Might Say- Oasis; first number 1, perhaps the definitive Oasis tune
Fade Away (Live Acoustic Version)- Noel Gallagher; lyrically one of his best, the sound of a man dreaming of a better life for himself, but wondering if it will ever come true
Don't Look Back In Anger- Oasis; you can't NOT have this, even if everyones heard it a thousand times!
Stop Crying Your Heart Out- Oasis; a true return to form, an underrated classic
Idlers Dream- Oasis; great b-side, shows another side of his song writing
Mucky Fingers- Oasis; great tune, latter day Noel at his best
Everybody's On The Run- Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds; a typical Noel 'stadium' tune, great opener

I run a fansite called stopcryingyourheartout.com I would like to pick Grey Harpoon by The Coral. I first heard about the band because of Noel talking about them in interviews. They supported Oasis on a number of tours and are one of my favourite bands.

This track is from Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker "mini-album". It was recorded over a week and a half in North Wales It is not considered a third album as such, more of a stop-gap between Magic and Medicine and the follow-up, The Invisible Invasion.
