First wow result
The first wow result of the night. The Tories have gained Southampton - they didn't expect to and we didn't expect them to.
This is the home of the cabinet minister, John Denham, who's warned his party of the danger of losing the southern voters who Tony Blair wooed so successfully. Those warnings will now surely get louder.

I think the results are very satisfying for the Tories so far, but what is wholly unsatisfying is the attempt via Jeremy Vines bizarre interludes to dumb down the whole election issue down to the level of a 5 year old!

I've have been watching the BBC results show on the TV and I object to the Conservative representative's repeated referral to Gordon Brown as an unelected Prime Minister. At the last General Election I voted Labour on the understanding that Tony Blair would step down as Prime Minister during the term and that Gordon Brown would take over. Therefore to my mind Gordon Brown is an elected Prime Minister - he was mandated at the last General Election – and the Conservative representative is making a false claim.

I love that John Denham thinks that the Lib Dem vote collapsed in Southampton while the Labour vote merely stayed at home. Isn't that just a mealy-mouthed way of saying their vote collapsed too?! Let's expose 'staying at home' for the weak euphemism it is!

Re: sfSandra . . .Gordon Brown IS an unelected Prime minister . . that "old chestnut" about voting for Blair "on the understanding . . etc etc" is rubbish. One votes in a party largely based on the person who's leading it, when it comes to a Gen. Election. Brown wasn't elected - doesnt matter how you want to dress it up. PLUS - he's a Scot, and largely looks after the interests of Scotland to the detriment of the English. Its an outrage.

You don't vote for a Prime minister, or even a party. You vote for a candidate in your individual seat and whichever party has most seats forms the Government. The leader of the party becomes PM. So the only people who ever have, ever will and ever need to vote for Brown are the good people of Kirkaldy and Fife

I agree . . . BUT - essentially, Gordon Brown was NOT given a mandate by the people of the UK to run this country . . Tony Blair was. Fact. CLEARLY, he should have stuck to what he knew best - raiding our pension funds and emptying the coffers. The man's a joke. Go the Tories.

Ed Milliband needs to grow up - Caroline Spellman is NOT complacent - he seems to think the only thing that voters are concerned about is "the 10p" issue! What about everything else - immigration, no EU referendum, constant Labour Lies, price of fuel (expected to rise to 150p per LITRE next year) These are the issues . .

Tonight, 6th of May 2008 "NuLab political managers" will face the music of" Valkyria Night Orchestra " of united protest voters.
"Red " Ken's decission to re-join "orange" camp of New Labour was wrong and he will regret it.
At the same time voters, and in London, in particular are fed up and are against :
1.Depleted pensions,
2.Wastefull , incompetent and selfish bureaucracy,
3.Cronyism,
4.Double Council Tax,
5.20% Tax on poorest members of our Society,
6.Culture of compensation and benefit system, which have created more jobs for civil service bureaucrats, yet done very little for poor families.
7.Unaffordable cost of public transport (undeground and buses),
8.Congestion Daily Tax of £25.00 to drive a car, while none of other world major cities have imposed such draconian tax on its citizens.,
9.Unaffordable costs of parking; parking costs now more than £5.00 an hour.
10.Very low standards of education in State Schools,
11.Lack of places in few remaining state schools with good weducational standards,
12.Politicians' cynism , arragance ,self-interest,, incompetence and hypocrisy.
13.Stealth taxes,
14.Real inflation of 11%.
15.Different and much favourable social model (Free Education at Universities, Free medicine, Care for elderly etc ) in Scotland, which effectively divides United Kingdom.
16.Waste,
17.Unnafordable bureaucracy,
18.Road taxes,
19.Overall taxers now are higher than in Germany , but taxpayers have been receiving in return,
20.War in Iraq,
21.Society has become more Divided and Segreagated :
culturally, religiously, morally, and FANANCIALLY.
22.Unfortunately Public does not trust any politician , any major party, therefore it will add more confusion as BNP, UKIP,English democrats etc will be gaining more seats.
23.Politicians should "land "now to realize the real life of hardworking families , they used to mention so many times.

John Denham....most severe case of MP 'Ostrich syndrome' I have seen in a very long time.
Like all politicians all he really cares about is staying in Westminster long enough to get a good 'snout full' from the taxpayers 'trough'!!!

What career modern politicians want ?
To stay in Westminster, High paid jobs in Local Coincils in order to continue to use
well paid salaries, bonuses, perks, paid expenses , guaranteed final salary pensions,and, of copurse, to look after members of their families whom they have been apponting to serve their own interests but paid from public funds.
Shame !
Politicians should blame themselvs for wide spread cynism and public mistrust.
This damage is now very difficult to repair .

Without any professional knowledge, skills they have been appointed and rotated by their Party Masters`to do various ministerial jobs..... and in the process of their "learning" huge amount of public funds have been WASTED !
