The first Black(berry) President

Post categories:

Apparently, Obama's phone has had special anti-spy security fitted to his Blackberry by the Secret Service. This will be disappointing news for those who were hoping for an iPresidency.

Well, the entire Obama team are Apple users "...accustomed to using Macintoshes..." according to the Washington Post, so their lack of using iPhones is excusable.

The more important factor in this story has to do with transparency. Obama is the first president to be writing his own emails etc. - previous presidents were (and Obama was) strongly discouraged from doing so because under the PRA they could all be subpoenaed someday as a matter of public record. Obama's use of a Blackberry underscores his determination to run an open and transparent presidency, and should make people confident that he always intends to do the right thing while in office.

(That's how I read it anyway.)

The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice. At least that's what some people say. I wouldn't know, I've never had first hand experience. Sorry, couldn't resist.
