The Vatican has launched a new website. In Latin. Pope Benedict may be the world's greatest advocate of Latin; he has already encouraged the greater use of the Latin Mass. If you are a budding Latinist, you might want to download the podcast of Fr Reginald Foster, the pope's official Latinist, where the American Carmelite priest makes a valiant effort to make Latin the world's lingua franca.

Great! It's a pity Latin is now off the curriculum in so many schools. A basic understanding of Latin (to my shame I've forgotten a *lot* of what I was once taught - and had some really excellent teachers) is a brilliant grounding for language studies in general, and technical English in particular. Forget religion, though - Newton's Principia was of course written in Latin. Here's an area where theists and atheists might be able to share some common ground...

H- Agree. The applicability of Latin to good use of the English language (esp. a 'careful' use of English) makes it very very helpful to learn, I think... and by the way, advanced texters like myself do so using T9 technology which doesn't require or accept TXT SPK.

LOL - that should do the trick.
I wonder if "predictive text" should be replaced with "prophetic text"...
So, "CU in 5" would be rendered as "I'll be there in about an hour, and make excuses about the traffic, when in fact I was fixing my hair and feeding the cat".
The problem with previous attempts at "prophetic text" is that frequently the texts were misunderstood, inapplicable, downright ambiguous, and even when they got something "right", they were so woolly that any old event would have fitted the bill, or the event itself was doctored to fit the prophecy. I think Nokia are working on the problem.

PeterM, no, I don't think ALL Christians are mad - after all, I used to be one for quite a while (and I'm not mad... am I??! Er...)
Some of the least mad people I know are Christians. It's possible to be quite sane, yet utterly totally mistaken ;-) If Christianity instilled one thing in me, it was that there is no compromise over truth. If something is based on a crap argument, it may as well be crap, whether it actually is or not, because there's no reliable method for telling the difference.

Boy that smsbible thing sure makes for one UNholy trinity. Combining into one, three things which individually I prefer to do without:
- sms English
- spam messages
- bible verses
The combination of those three can not be a good thing. :(
