Doggy days

Laura with Max

I spent an interesting day today - at an RSPCA centre for animals. We were reporting about new laws, which will mean everyone will have to look after their animals better. We were there with Sam, Jack and Ella - three children who'd managed to presuade their parents they wanted - and would look after - a dog. They'd been to choose their new pet beforehand, but today was the day they got to take Max, the Alsation, home.

I've filmed at RSPCA centres like this before, and it always makes me so sad to see so many animals in cages, who really need good homes. As you walk past the cages, the animals always jump up - trying to get your attention - as if to say "please take me home!"

Jack, Ella and Sam with Max

Lots of animals end up in places like this, because they've been badly treated in the past. Hopefully these new laws though will mean fewer animals being badly treated - and being given away. For Max, it's a happy ending - and a new start with his new family. Hopefully there'll be more happy endings for more of the animals here soon too.

What do you think though? Do you have a pet? Do you look after him / her properly? Do you think some people shouldn't be allowed to have pets? Let me know - and in the meantime, have a great Easter!

Meeting a hero!

Dame Tanni Grey Thompson

Today I met someone, who is an inspiration to thousands of people around the world.

Tanni-Grey Thompson is one of the country's best ever athletes - she also happens to be disabled. She was born with a condition called Spina Bifida - which means her spine didn't grow properly - so she has to use a wheelchair.

It's been tough for her to be taken seriously as an athlete - and she's had to face a lot of discrimination. She's overcome it all though and in total has won a staggering 11 gold medals and has held 30 world records.

Pretty inspirational stuff, huh? So, I want to know who your heroes are? Who has inspired you and why? Let me know!

Look forward to hearing from you xxxx

Bad weather!

  • 19 Jan 07, 06:12 PM

Well, there's only one thing everyone's been talking about today - yes, that's the weather! Yesterday was TERRIBLE. I was filming near Worcseter - and was really worried we weren't going to get back at all. All the trains were really badly delayed - and lots of people missed important things becasue of it. And it wasn't just us - lots of other places in Europe were battered by the storms too. And apparently this weekend is going to be bad too - there's even a chance of some snow! So, wrap up warm and if you can - stay indoors - that's certainly what I'm going to be doing! See you next week, Love Lxxx

Laura in the NR studio
Hi guys - hope you are all well! It's been another busy day here at Newsround - once again we've been reporting about the Big Brother row. It's got even bigger and today, the Prime Minister was even asked about it in the House of Commons - he said he wasn't watching the show, but that he was against any sort of racist bullying. It's something that loads of you have been writing in about too. I've been going through all your emails and texts - and tonight I'll be reading out some of your thoughts in the NR studio. Do keep letting us know what you think though - and what you think should happen next. We'll keep you posted! Lxx

Off to the Brits!

Laura at the Brit nominations

Hi everyone - hope you're having a good Tuesday! I'm just getting ready to head off to the Brits nominations - no, not the actual awards ceremony, that's not until February, but the one where we get to find out who's nominated for a Brit award. So I'm hoping to catch a glimpse of some of the stars on the red carpet - we reckon Leona and Lemar will be there and hopefully some others too. We'll be finding out later who's actually nominated - check out the news page on the website for that - and I'll try and send some pictures back if I do manage to spot any A-listers. Let me know who you think should do well and why. xx

The new earpieces!

Ear wax anyone?

  • Laura

Lizo and I had a funny experience this morning. We had to go and get new earpieces made. An earpiece is like a hearing aid, which fits into your ear, so that we can hear what our producers and directors are saying to us - and what Ellie is asking us - when we're reporting live in studio - or anywhere else across the world. It's really important that they fit and work properly - they're the only link we have to the Newsround studio sometimes.
Getting new ones made is quite strange - the man squirts warm wax into your ears, which then sets, so they can make a cast from it. For the ten minutes it took to set, I couldn't hear a thing - it was a very strange experience, like being underwater. Afterwards, it was weird being able to see the shape of the inside of my ear - not something you get to do every day! Anyway, I hope it was all worth it, because tomorrow I'm going to be reporting live from the Brit nominations - so it had better work properly, or else there's a good chance I'm going to end up talking complete rubbish! Speak tomorrow xxxx

Last day!

  • 20 Dec 06, 03:25 PM

Well, here it is! Almost Christmas! Like lots of you, I'm breaking up today - and I can't wait! I've still got quite a lot of shopping to do, but I think I know what I want so I can get on with it now. Poor Lizo and Ellie, they're quite jealous that I'm finishing a bit earlier, but never fear, they'll both be around til Friday to bring you all the Christmas news.! Have a great Christmas and I'll see you in the New Year! Oh and by the way, Scott - why a blue dress? Well, why not?! Didn't you like it? ;-( Take care, lots of love xx.

Christmas party!

  • Laura
  • 19 Dec 06, 05:24 PM

Hi guys! I guess you lot have been to your fair share of Christmas parties and school discos, to mark the end of term. Well, last night it was our turn!

Laura, Lizo and Ellie

Newsround joined up with loads of other programmes and departments in the BBC, to have a massive party in a big tent in Central London.

It was really cool - lots of disco dancing and even toilet racing! Yes, you heard right - you can see me, in the blue dress, racing around on a toilet! How random!

Toilet racing

It was a lot of fun though. I'm getting really excited about the big day now! How are you feeling? Let me know - and let me know all the goss from your parties too.

Speak tomorrow, xx
