Doggy days
- 4 Apr 07, 03:25 PM

I spent an interesting day today - at an RSPCA centre for animals. We were reporting about new laws, which will mean everyone will have to look after their animals better. We were there with Sam, Jack and Ella - three children who'd managed to presuade their parents they wanted - and would look after - a dog. They'd been to choose their new pet beforehand, but today was the day they got to take Max, the Alsation, home.
I've filmed at RSPCA centres like this before, and it always makes me so sad to see so many animals in cages, who really need good homes. As you walk past the cages, the animals always jump up - trying to get your attention - as if to say "please take me home!"

Lots of animals end up in places like this, because they've been badly treated in the past. Hopefully these new laws though will mean fewer animals being badly treated - and being given away. For Max, it's a happy ending - and a new start with his new family. Hopefully there'll be more happy endings for more of the animals here soon too.
What do you think though? Do you have a pet? Do you look after him / her properly? Do you think some people shouldn't be allowed to have pets? Let me know - and in the meantime, have a great Easter!

hi i absolutly love animals my fav is horses but my dad won't let me get one i think it is very important for animals not to be kept in homing shelters it is not fair on them (i'm not saying they are not caring for the animals i mean that the animals need a caring home with a loving family) stuck in the runs all day.

I love animals, I have always had pets. Well my mum gave me a cat after my dog and rabbit had to be put down :-(, they both caught cancer.
I've always looked after my pets propery, their part of my life.
I think the age limit to buy a pet should be raised to 18 because I think at 16 most are still not responisable enough to look after a pet.

Butterfly of Death I disagree with your post. I am fourteen and have a dog of my own. She is being trained in the good citizen dog scheme. Also is well behaved on a lead and on public transport. She has been trained entirely by me and I hope you will agree with me in saying that not all people are irresponsible owners. Although I can see your point and agree with part of what you are saying I do not believe it would be right to ban all people from buying pets because of the actions of a few. That would be like justifying the dangerous dogs act on pit bulls.

i disagree with Butterfly of Death im 13 i look after my dog very well he has been trained since he was a very small puppy and loves people and other dogs. i dont think it its fair to punish children by stopin them from owning a pet because a few people cannot look after animals properly. i agree with seren.

I love pets but my Mum is allergic to cats and so I really want a tortoise (FAVOURITE ANIMAL!!!) but even then my Mum said no. We did have 2 goldfish then they died so we buried them and they got dug up and eaten by a next-door neighbors cat.
