William Friedkin’s 1977 thriller Sorcerer is about to get a limited re-release in a restored version. Why has this masterpiece been overlooked for so many years?

I hope it comes to Sheffield!

I couldn't help thinking about the Sorcerer's Apprentice (from Fantasia) when Star Wars was mentioned.

Great film, great OST and not afraid to use subtitles.

FINALLY. People have mentioned the re-issue of 'Sorcerer' on this blog as far back as 2012, so it's great that we may get to see it on the big screen. Mark mentioned the trailer which sells the film as a crime thriller, which may be another reason why it bombed, audiences went in expecting one movie and got something else. There's a story that when Billy Friedkin told Clouzot that he was going to remake 'Wages of Fear' that Clouzot responded "ah, why do ya wanna remake that piece of ****" Friedkin reassured him "it won't be as good as your movie". Now i've heard people suggest that 'Sorcerer' is the better film, it certainly looks like an absolute cracker.

Sorcerer is my 28th reason on why I dislike Star Wars (Sorry I know this is childish and biased, but I can't help myself)

First saw Sorcerer on a terrible pan and scan DVD, and I absolutely loved it. Very much the definition of an underrated gem. Great performances, great story, great pacing and the score is just phenomenal. I bet that it will receive a release in London, and hopefully I can finally see this film on the big screen. If not I can take comfort in the fact that I could enjoy this film when it comes out on blu ray later this month (its only being released in the US at the moment, but you can easily import it since its a multi-region title and it can be played on any blu ray player) Can't wait to finally see this film the way it was supposed to have been shown.

I've never been a huge fan of The wages of Fear. It take far to long for the film to get going with little happening for the first hour. I've never seen Sorcerer but as it's quite a bit shorter I would hope that the pacing is better. Looking forward to a decent release of this film so I can finally watch it.
