The news has broken that Michael Bay is going to produce a remake of Hitchcock’s classic The Birds. But is that such a bad thing?

As Walter Hill said when he heard they were going to remake the Worriers, " What did I do so wrong in the first place".

Now that's one Walter Hill classic I haven't seen -The Worriers! Though i agree with the sentiment.

I'm thinking comparisons with films like:

    "Abre los ojos" and "Psycho".

    Need I say more?!

Lets not worry too much about this. Remember the shot for shot remake of Psycho with Vince Vaughn? We got over that didn't we?

    Didn't we?

We could all just look in the opposite direction and try and ignore Bay while he yells for our attention.

I know if Hitchcock were alive today he'd say that this one's "for the birds". In the likely event that this remake sucks, it will serve to make the original look even better. If it's passable, it'll be forgotten quickly. Although it's fifty years since the original and maybe the Universal need to do a remake to retain the rights to Hitch's film.
The recent remake of 'Oldboy' bombed because it seems this was the one subtitled film that everyone in the world had seen and loved, and i believe there was a backlash from fans outraged that someone would remake such a beloved film. Take note Michael, this may not be the simple cash grab you think it will be.
