Unfortunately, the problem with Pain & Gain and Bay is that there is always going to be a mass audience who lap up everything he brings out. Not because they know it's 'un film du Michael Bay' but because everything he makes is so crass and backed to the high heavens by studios that the advertising campaigns make it seem as though missing out on such an 'action blockbuster' would be a sin. So we can expect plenty more. I'm sure we all know people with just a passing interest in film, who deserve better but, sadly, are overloaded with Bayhem.

Totally agree with Mark on Pain & Gain. I pride myself on watching even the worst films to end credits before I allow myself to pan them. Pain & Gain was so obnoxious it took me three sittings to get to the end.

    But what about SHARKNADO? ;)

Then again TV movies probably aren't eligible for these kind of lists, which is just as well, or all ten places would be occupied by Syfy films. Unfortunately.

Mark Kermode - Worst Films of 2013

    10 Grown Ups 2 (✔)
    9 Texas Chainsaw 3D
    8 Kick-Ass 2 (✔)
    7 Diana
    6 Bula Quo
    5 Run for Your Wife
    4 The Internship (✔)
    3 Movie 43 (✔)
    2 The Counsellor
    1 Pain & Gain (✔)

The Tick Box (✔) represents that I have seen the film, AND mostly/partly agree.
With the exception of "Pain & Gain", simply because I enjoyed the idea that within a true life story, a small group of meat-heads, could really be THAT stupid.
I needed convincing but then I took a look around.
    Richard xXx

I'm really, really late for this party but couldn't resist putting my 10p in. Movie 43 wasn't just the worst film I saw last year, it's maybe the worst film of all time. How it only came in a number 3 is beyond me. If Mr Kermode's justification for putting it in 3rd is because the top 2 were 'disappointing' due to the high expectations of them both, then surely Movie 43 falls into that category. Some of the world's biggest stars were in it. In fact on paper it's probably the greatest line up in movie history and it absolutely STUNK. I have never seen a cinema so empty by the end of a film due to people walking out. The only reason I watched it all the way through is because I had paid £8 to get in and wanted my money's worth but not a single moment in any scene was worth the celluloid it was printed on. There are adverts for yoghurt with better plots and acting than this film had.

Any person who liked Prometheus cannot properly judge any film let alone Kick Ass 2 (which is good)

Now You See Me was awful, surprised more people haven't mentioned this one. Some talented actors are in it and I loathed all of them with the exception of Melanie Laurent.

Only God Forgives - big fan of Drive, knew this was movie marmite but really hoped I would be one of those that saw it as a masterpiece. I didn't and the ending angered me.

Other than that most films are at least average at best and I'm okay with that. Fast & Furious 6 being such a case although Olympus Has Fallen was average and terrible at the same time.

As for the hate towards Man Of Steel, can't agree. Loved it with the exception of too much carnage at the end but visually and tonally it hit the right buttons as far as I was concerned and best Superhero film of the year.

Haven't seen it, don't need to, but surely The Harry Hill Movie is worse than Pacific Rim? Then again MARK it's more to knock a $200m film than one made for about £10!

Oh and speaking of dire British films - a couple of years back I rented Kill List based on glowing reviews. It was terrible, worse than a million bland Hollywood blockbusters which at the very least have some entertainment value to them. Kill List had no redeeming features whatsoever apart from one - proving to me that a lot of the time critics haven't got a clue!

No Way Kick-ass 2 should be on that list. It's at least as good as the excellent first one. I'd add in Justin and the Knights of valour which is one of the blandest, unfunniest animated films I've ever seen. It's abysmal.
