Sorry for coming late to the party but I've just joined the electric people. Your my first type thing to a stranger!
Anyway. I think you were a little mean to John Carter (of mars) I,m a fan of the books and the comics and I think it was nice of Disney to spend that much money on a movie just for me.

I agree with most those choices, but I am going to stick my neck out and say,, I enjoyed John Carter..I sat down to it with very little expectations and at the end I didn't regret renting it. I have reccomended it and so far I have lost no-friends.

Its moronic in places but just switch your brain off and enjoy a rather camp bubblegum SciFi.

Just watched Shadow Dancer, out on DVD and the best film I've seen since Winter's Bone.

Tense, tight, still holding my breath, so good. The Long Good Friday comes to mind, an early scene reminds of that last scene of TLGF, with Bob Hoskins trapped in the car with IRA. Still gives me chills and so will Shadow Dancer which is that tense all the way through. Brilliant stuff but won't make awards list I suspect although it should.

PS. John Carter is really, really dreadful. It was painful. Agree 100%. Didn't understand a second of it.

He did the Top 12 on the 5Live show with Simon Mayo - the list was.

**SPOILER ALERT - DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE TOP 12**

    1 = A Royal Affair/berberian Sound Studio
    3 Skyfall
    4 Amour
    5 The Dark Knight Rises
    6 Even the Rain
    7 Life of Pi
    8 Martha Marcy May Marlene
9 Beasts of the Southern Wild
    10 The Raid
    11 Holy Motors
    12 You've Been Trumped

Only complaint is no Argo, because it's 'going to get a lot of praise anyway', which looking at No.s 3 & 5 seemed like an odd thing to say,

Having not seen Keith Lemon I will have to disagree with number one. For me (sorry Mark) it was Berberian Sound Studio. The definition of self indulgent, art house drivel. Great premise that never delivers on its promise, a stunningly misguided piece of work full of hateful characters with little or no charm. I like Toby Jones but instead of sympathising with his character I found him to be the main culprit. Alternative title - Nothing Happens In A Cupboard In Italy.
Skyfall would be in there too, anyone notice Javier Bardem channelling Frankie Howard? The last half an hour was laughable.

    Jesse Webb - #80:

Sorry for him because he had to see these movies? I'm not. It's his job. Every job has something about it that's dull or annoying or difficult, be it the paperwork, the phone calls, the meetings, the cleaning up afterwards. Even your dream job of owning a cake shop will still involve you doing a tax return at some point. And if your job is Film Critic then the bad bit of the job description is watching Piranha sequels. There are a lot worse jobs out there, including not actually having one.
