That's wittertainment

Post categories:

Mark Kermode | 11:35 UK time, Wednesday, 16 September 2009

My Friday afternoon movie sparring partner Simon Mayo is leaving his 5 live slot for Radio 2 where he takes over from Chris Evans. But what of him and me, us, of you and wittertainment? Well, we have an announcement on that too...

    Because you lift me up
Wrap me around in your arms
    And make me breath
For you two are my Golden Fleece.

I am disappointed that the Sony Award winning Kermode and Mayo wittertainment is not being expanded to at least three hours on a Friday, with an hourly update every weekday.

I presume it is a similar disappointment that Dr Mayo displays in this clip.

Will Mr Kermode be adding his signature? =)

Hehehe. Would have been nice to hear the Other Doctor speak, or just dramatically walk off into the sunset at the end, alone and disappointed. Oh well. I wasn't really worried that your partnership would be broken up - I don't think the BBC could survive the ensuing haranguing and hate mail. Auntie would have to shut down and shove off.

@junkiecosmonaut: What are you talking about? Colin Murphy is brilliant! He's no Dr.M, but I quite enjoy Murphy/Kermode collaborations. It's the episodes without Dr.K that languish towards the bottom of my iPod playlists.

Will this affect the way podcasts are downloaded at ITunes? Do I need to create some kind of new subscription? Congrats to Mr. Mayo, btw! Is being on BBC2 a better position than being on 5? Don't quite understand the BBC hierarchy and how it all works, but I like what I hear throughout the whole BBC spectrum!

Was Simon overcome with emotion or was he having a aneurysm? Changing jobs will do that to a person you know. Glad to hear that you are carrying on. I don't know what I would do without my weekly dose of lateral leaps. Some of your conversations have more twists and turns thant he Chartres Labyrinth.

Phew, that's a relief, I'm not ready to let go yet (perhaps one day you'll have to invent a Wittertainment slow-release patch, when you eventually do want to jack it in).

Please clarify though. If the show's staying on 5 live, will it have a different time slot, so as not to clash with Simon's Radio 2 gig?

    Best,

phew, a relief indeed, though loved mayo's acting in this vid, and your over zealous delivery. But does this mean your gonna be sparring with mayo on radio 2, or does mayo keep his 5 live friday slot as well as being over on radio 2?

    Great news, long live wittertainment.
Looking forward to your upcoming review of The Firm, Mark. I'm sure the 4* review in Empire won't sway your judgment. However, it looks as if Nick Love has finally made a film without Danny Dyer, so how about a Paul Anderson impression (who rumour has it, isn't a bad actor).
p.s. Saw The Thing at my local multiplex in West Sussex this week - classic!

There could be a few more added to your list of bad bad bad movies.

Vince Vaughn in Couples Retreat, that looks seriously bad.

Saw VI - There's another sequel being made for next year.

Did You Hear About the Morgans? - Hugh Grant, and Sarah Jessica Parker

Sherlock Holmes - directed by Guy Ritchie - nuff said.

Old Dogs - Starring Robin Williams, and John Travolta - A Disney family comedy. This is the plot. Two friends and business partners find their lives turned upside down when strange circumstances lead to them being placed in the care of 7-year-old twins.

How's it going to work? Hopefully you will be doing it on R2 where presumably they don't interrupt every five minutes for traffic, sport, inconsequential prime-ministerial press conferences, court cases where juries want to go home early for the weekend or, God forbid, horse-racing.

So now that's settled, we can forget about the Bride Wars challenge nonsense?

It is with some shock I read this, Simon is the most professional informed and entertaining people in the media. His research is second to none. He has tact and an ability to ask the difficult questions so his guests will respond appropriately and not get into a pointless argument.

This isn't to take anything away from your intelligent wit and skill Dr Kermode, but the success of the fri pm show is 50/50.

I could listen to Mayo interview Jeremy Clarkson! What a waste going to radio 2 to play u2

I think Simon's only moving to R2 so he doesn't have to move himself and his family to Manchester when R5 is uprooted and moved there (for political reasons). That said, at least it means he'll be on at a time of day I can hear him, and the Wittertainment survives to keep making my Monday drive to work bearable...
