And about Gran Torino, I must say I laughed at a lot of the racial slurs that came from Walt's gravelly mouth, mainly because they were quite inventive and I had never heard them before.
Though I would say I was laughing "with" Walt in the movie. Although when Walt develops companionship with the Hmong next door, the racial slurs don't stop. I think through this Clint is saying that these words have different impacts when used in different contexts. I may be wrong, but that's what the film is about to me, and hey, I rip on my friends all the time, they do to me, but it's cool because it's more jocular than harmful.
Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention, great site and blogs.

Hi Mark,
You might be interested to know that Warner Bros. have started "on demand" DVD in America. According to the link below, people can order any of the 6,800 theatrical features in the studio's library not available on disc (as in The Devils) and receive a custom-made DVD within a week for $20.
The DVD's seem to be barebones, but I'd rather have The Devils on DVD than not at all...

I do feel your chumminess with certain directors may endanger you of losing some of your objectivity (whatever objectivity means in terms of film review).
Danny Boyle may be a lovely bloke, but Slumdog was not that extraordinary [No it wasn't]

That's very true. It was an above average film at best. Poorly structured and erratic in tone. Was I supposed to take it seriously or was it a fairtyale fantasy.
That's bad news re:The devils. I haven't seen it since Channel 4 did a banned season many moons ago but it's a fantastic film. I do have a soft spot for Altered States though as far as faves go.
