2008, favourite Film, would have to be The Dark Knight, god knows how christopher nolan and his brother can follow up though with a third film(if they are going to make one). He might do, already releasing 'red herrings' as to who will play what villian/character in the next one.

I normally agree with most of Kermode's views but stating that the hitchhikers movie was "frankly rather rubbish" is just plain wrong. I think he needs to go back and reassess the movie with out prejudice (if possible).

I watched son of rambow for the first time yesterday, with tears in my eyes. It was honestly and sincerely heartfelt and I wish there were more movies out there like this for both children and adults.

'man on wire' for me all the way. No other film this year made me think more about the pros and cons of being a human being. mesmerising to look at too.

Of Time and the City has still not come out here in New Zealand which is really really annoying. However it hasn't come out in the US or France yet, dates are planned, so perhaps there is hope it will come out here.

Do you count Sweeney Todd as a 2008 film? Technically its a 2007 film in the US because it came out on the 21st of December. The Oscar rule year is 1 Jan - 31 Dec so it was eligible for last Oscars and won best art direction. Is it in or out for the coming Kermode Awards?

I need to see The Class again. It was definitely the best film I saw this year, but I felt a little distanced from the ending.

Oddly, a friend of mine told me how much the ending (not wishing to spoil anything, but it involves something a female pupil tells her teacher) made him cry, and in a fit of jealous pique, I resolved to rewatch, not wanting to be outdone. You see, I cry at everything: Spinal Tap, Ed Wood, Shanghai Noon... if there's tears to be had from The Class, goshdarnit, I want them!
