The MP for the West Yorkshire constituency where the search is on for the bodies of two missing prostitutes has called for brothels to be legalised to get sex workers off the streets.

Philip Davies, the Conservative MP for Shipley near Bradford was speaking as police divers were combing the River Aire where the body of a third prostitute was found a few days ago.

A man is in custody charged with three counts of murder.

Mr Davies was speaking on today's Politics Show for Yorkshire Lincolnshire and the North Midlands.

"Prostitution isn't just a problem for Bradford," he said.

"I think there is an argument for getting these women indoors where they will be off the streets and in relative safety."

Mr Davies says he will be contacting other MPs to see how much support there is for legalised brothels.

"This isn't really a party political issue," he said.

"We must also not make changes to the law on a knee-jerk reaction to the horrific events of the past few days."

On Friday, on a visit to West Yorkshire the Prime Minister called for a crackdown on curb-crawling.
