Russell Grant leaves Strictly

Post categories:

BBC Strictly James | 20:16 UK time, Sunday, 20 November 2011

Astrologer Russell Grant and Flavia Cacace are the seventh couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2011.

The pair finished at the bottom of the leaderboard on Saturday night with 24 points. They were joined in the bottom two by Holly and Artem, but unfortunately Team Flavant bowed out of the competition.

Bruno said on Saturday night: "I tell you the peek-a-boo thing at the end, I thought I was going to bust a gut! It's got nothing to do with Jive but God I loved it!" Russell's final dance was a memorable performance as he was fired out of a cannon.

As ever, we were first on the floor to find out the reactions from the professionals and celebrities.

Guess his time had come, but as an astrologer he must have known. Amazing to see Holly in bottom, two, frankly expecetd Robbie or Anita -Robbie nowhere near as good at dancing,

  • Comment number 2.

And the sound was dreadful again thank goodness back in the studio next week and in future go back to Blackpool

  • Comment number 3.

bye Russell-You time was up but well done on entering into the spirit of Strictly.I loved your partnership with Flavia and thank you for your acknowledgement of Flavia at the end of the results show.

  • Comment number 4.

SO sad to see Russell and Flavia leave the competition!! I admit that he was probably the weakest dancer in the competition, but his performance level just outshone all the couples every single week!! His sheer love for dance just shone through and to see that enthusiasm is just wonderful!! Russell and Flavia, you will be greatly missed and the Strictly dancefloor will be a much quieter and duller place without your performances!!!!

  • Comment number 5.

An awful din. Total waste of money and effort, over-hyped, scale spoiled the dance routines and it was time for Russell to go; though to his great credit he not only took it well but was eloquent in defeat. Such a waste of talent if Holly had to go.

By the way, I do think to BBC production team seem to favour various of the celebrities in their pre/post/actual coverage. What will the producers do without Russell?

  • Comment number 6.

Awww will miss your spirit, energy and sheer presence Russell. Your a legend and you wont be forgotten. Keep on Dancing ~x~

  • Comment number 7.

Agree with the comments about Wembley sound was dreadful, please go back to Blackpool again or stay in the studio. Time for Russell to go. Shame about Artem and Holly!

  • Comment number 8.

Enjoyed the show from Wembley however the sound was dreadful...Brucie excelled, judges joined in especially Craig n Bruno, very funny, Jason was dissappointing, Alex did not enjoy and the best dance for me was Chelsea! Looking forward to the studio show not the same!

  • Comment number 9.

I agree best person to have gone. As to Wembley, a complete farce, lighting, cameras, acoustics were all wrong. Next time consider The Royal Albert hall or something if you are going to have a mid term outing for SCD.

  • Comment number 10.

Noooooo! Russel out? Travesty!!!!! where's the justice???? :'(

  • Comment number 11.

I didn't enjoy the Wembley experience either. Hopefully it was good for all those there though. Just too big an area for the dancers to try and cover and the crowd were way too noisy and the camerawork was even more batty than usual. Still had those irritating "couples in training" bits as well. Oh well back to the good old studio next week.

  • Comment number 12.

So sad to see Russell go, he really lit up the show with his personality but i think he went out at the right time; long enough for people to think it's his turn but short enough that it didn't repeat Ann last year. Oh and producers, if you're trying to convince us it's a live show, make sure the judges stay out of shot just before their bit with Claudia. They were clearly still at their desk during Jessie J and James Morrison singing but suddenly they're over with Claudia immediately after.

  • Comment number 13.

Russell will definetely go down as a Strictly legend because of the entertainment and show stopping moments he brought but the correct decision was definetely reached. Most of us said how shocked we were to see Anita in the bottom 2 last week but I feel that seeing Holly in the bottom 2 this week was an even bigger shock.

I thought we were on course for a shock when Tess called out Anita and Robbie as the 1st 2 couples to be safe but I thought that Jason was maybe a bit more likely to be in the bottom 2 than Holly even though I admit that she wasn't at her best. I put that down to Artems understandable desire to want to be at Wembley but the sensible thibg would have been to let Brendan dance this weekend as he had been dancing with Holly in practise for most of the week and as someone the other day said she has more chemistry with Brendan which is part of what makes a great partnership

Next week is a big week for Team Hartem for a couple of reasons:
    1) How are they going to react having found themselves in the bottom 2 this weekend?
    2) What state is Artems back really in? From a personal point of view he got away with this weekend as he had a ballroom but if they have a latin will his back stand up to the stresses and strains that a latin will put on his body

  • Comment number 14.

Well done Russell, from a Welsh girl you did wales proud. Although I am a HALI fan, I have thoroughly enjoyed your performance every week, and as for those saying you could not dance I thought you were really good and as well as giving the entertainment factor always did a good dance performance with your steps and timing etc.

I thought your a absolutely fab-u-lous person and really heart warming - I will miss you load son the show.xxxx

  • Comment number 15.

Russell & Flavia were great, but now it's getting more serious. I can't help feeling Chelsea's talent is overlooked slightly and Anita - well, valiant efforts, but I think the judges are too kind. Robbie, I can't stop watching his fantastic show-opener!

  • Comment number 16.

My 5 year old daughter, Madeleine, burst into tears when Russell was voted off. She is a massive strictly fan and he has been her favourite since day one. The tears came back at bed time and she's only gone to sleep because I've promised her he'll be on it takes two. Big wave and kiss to Russell from Madeleine, your number one fan xx

  • Comment number 17.

Well done russell gone but never forgotten. You were a good sport and I think you gave everyone a good show. But I do think it was the right time to go as entertainment value 110% but dance value 2%. So good luck to you russell and we hope to see more of you on tv soon xxx oops forgot see you on Monday for ITT. xxxxx

  • Comment number 18.

Well done russell gone but never forgotten.

Here here jivetalkingcaz, he'll never be forgotten in the history of Strictly. But well done Russell you goal was to get to Wembley and you got there;)

  • Comment number 19.

Russell was definetely a good sport. I have to admit that once Tess called out Robbie and Anitas names 1st I was willing Russell to be in the bottom 2 simply because apart from Anita and Robbie nobody else deserved to be in the bottom 2. Russell definetely has entertained but as I said on another blog that even the entertainers time comes to an end and that was definetely the right call from the public

The pressure on the couples is only going to intensify now though. It sounds like they have to perform a swingathon next week as well as their routine that gets scored which is usually the build up to the following week when the couples start having to perform both a ballroom and a latin on the same night. This isnusually when the cream starts to rise to the top.

  • Comment number 20.

It was the right time for Russell to go. I didn't enjoy his dances as much as I thought I would but I'll always remember his Cha Cha - absolutely hilarious! Sorry to see Flavia go - the last of my favourite professionals.

  • Comment number 21.

I sometimes wonder whether some of the celebs take their foot of the gas once they achieve a goal they set themselves.

I remember Craig Kelly from a couple of series ago. He wasn't great but he wasn't absolutely terrible either. He set himself the target of dancing in his home town Blackpool and with the help of a respectable ballroom and a lot of support from the public he got there despite being the worst dancer on the night and forcing a dance off between 2 of the best couples in that competition Zoe & James (who were eliminated that night) and Ali & Brian. Having got to Blackpool Craig & Flavia concluded things with one of the worst Cha Cha Chas I have seen. It was like he had achieved his aim and wasn't going to try too hard with this dance and unsuprisingly got slated by the judges and got voted off.

I am not saying that Russell wasn't trying but he did seem to inadvertantly take his foot off the gas having achieved his aim of dancing in his local area - Wembley. The crowd pleasing moment would have helped but ultimately once he landed his performance put a lot of pressure on that crowd pleaser to save him and it didn't and having got him to Wembley the public rightly didn't save him.

Maybe this is a warning that all celebs will have to bear in mind. It is fair enough to set yourself a modest target but having achieved your target don't take your foot off the gas. Try to better your target.

  • Comment number 22.

I agree it was sad to see Russell go but at least he went on a high! Am i the only one who isnt overly impressed with Chelsy? Sorry if that upsets all her followers, just my humble opinion! Would like to see Jason improve as i think he is capable of a lot better.

  • Comment number 23.

I actually think Holly deserved to be in the bottom two. She never seems to give it her all whereas Russell gives it 150% even with a gammy knee. He tries even though technically he's not good. Much better than the Ann Widdecombes and John Sargeants.

  • Comment number 24.

And it was Artem's first time in the bottom two! He was never in the bottom two with Kara :)

  • Comment number 25.

I know Team Hartems performance wasn't particularly great but at the same time you could say that for everyone bar Team Hali, Team Chasha and Team Jalex. If one of the big fish was going to be in the bottom 2 I believe it should have been Anita although having said that having heard Tess call out Anita and Robbie 1st I felt Jason & Kristina were more likely to be in the bottom 2 than Holly & Artem

  • Comment number 26.

Bye bye, Russell, you did Middlesex, where I too come from, proud. Good luck for next week everyone especially Jason and Anita. Reading through the logs, thank goodness there is someone else who is not a Chelsee fan, her smile and 'little girl lost' attitude really bug me. The Wembley experience, well lets just say is was an experience but I agree with the comments that the programme is much better in the studio or Blackpool. The sound from Wembley was awful, at first I thought it was opur TV!

  • Comment number 27.

The best show on TV by far! I loved Russell, very entertaining, but no dancer! it was time for him to go. I think the Wembley shows have been ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, congratulations to everyone involved. The dance sequences at the start of both Saturday and Sunday were BRILLIANT! Keep up the good work!!!

  • Comment number 28.

ahhh, melanie , that is soo sweet message about madeleine .I hope she enjoys seeing Russell on It take two and i really hope she enjoys the rest of the show .- Well Done Russell , and Congratulations on winning our hearts!! as Brucie says "go on enjoy , it's for you . You deserve it ! "

  • Comment number 29.

I agree totally with view 22 , Lost any thoughts about Chelsee after the carry on with the wardrobe malfunction !! Not the first time this has happened , but NEVER has there been such an over acted reaction !!

The last two performances have had more than a few mistakes -, perhaps it easier to see them on telly ! Think like the rugby there should be a t.v. ref to point out missed errors !! lol

The judges have already picked her as the winner! Lets hope as in previous yrs there choice is not the winner

The marking is totally pointless - one rule for one and the others can do nowt right !

Think this will be my last yr of my support of my fave prog.

    Go on Holly !!

  • Comment number 30.

I loved redwits @ 1 comment “but as an astrologer he must have known.”

To judgesfave @ 29 I would like to point out that on the internet there were clips of Chelsee showing a nipple when she had her wardrobe malfunction, so she was not really make a fuss about nothing, she had been let down by the wardrobe department. I note that they have been giving her dresses where this is unlikely to happen again.

I thought the opening number on the result show was great and the celebrities performed well. While it is sad for Russell to go out I think it was his time and he was clearly the worse dancer. I thought Bruno’s comments about Russell being in the bottom two were fair. I was glad to see that Russell gave thanks to Flavia.

Holly came forth from bottom and so was in the danger zone. It doesn’t seem she received support because of her difficult week. I hope she has a better week and can perform at the top of her game next week. I hope Artem’s back is fine because if not he shouldn’t have lifted her after their dance on Saturday.

  • Comment number 31.

She chose to have them enhanced to 32 DD several years ago. If she can't cope with them, why blame the wardrobe department? They're her problem!

    amalric@30

She now regrets "the enhancement" so she says. Why worry about a mere nipple on display. Amidst all that silicone I don't really any of us noticed,or cared!

  • Comment number 32.

Should be, I don't really Think, any of us noticed. Typo, easily corrected. Silicone implants, a bit more difficult.

  • Comment number 33.

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 34.

Last evening from bad to worse. Sorry to see Holly in the last two. Wanted Robbie Savage or Anita to go, she is a lovely person but not a very good dancer. I think that Flavia is the classiest dancer, last week on Take2 she wore a lovely dress and shoes and her hair is always immaculate, she doesn't have to show vast expanses of bare leg and bosom and is far more attractive because of it. The rest of them look like underdressed Barbie dolls.

  • Comment number 35.

well it was Russells turn, but I still believe it was Hollys turn the only time she looked happy was when she was dancing with Brendan. i hope she does not win

  • Comment number 36.

Please, please, please BBC NEVER, EVER go back to Wembley for SCD. That was the worst show ever! The acoustics, the camera work, the screeching from the crowd were terrible. Between dances I had to turn the sound off and rely on subtitles which appeared to be about 30 seconds behind the actual sound.

The cameras kept going to the lighting rigs when they should have been concentrating on the dancers and when they did go to the dancers were too far away from them.

Stick to the studio or Blackpool in future please. :-)

Shame about Russell but it was time for him although his entertainment value was immense. I love Robbie and Ola and hope they go all the way because they do at least give their all. Jason, Holly and Harry seem to have this "I deserve to win" attitude and not put 100% in because they know the judges will give them top scores no matter what. Harry has no chemistry with Aliona whatsoever and she does that daft bending backwards thing every week! But Alisha will give him 9 or 10 whatever he does!! If he fell over and did every step incorrectly she would give him a 9! I thought the judges were supposed to be impartial!?

  • Comment number 37.

@ Supanol - agree with much of what you say, but would add Bruno is getting boring with his lusting over Harry and also marks like Alesha (so it is not just her).

Jason does give it 100% but on concentration rather than letting the dance enrapture him.

  • Comment number 38.

Second comments about Wembley being a disaaasteeerrr as a venue for Strictly, that is, if it is supposed to be a television show. But I can exercise some charity and overlook it because it was a fundraiser for charity.
However, I find it harder to overlook the overall style of the show is getting tackier. OTT glitz ceases to sparkle.
More content please and less of the contrived gayety. Agree with Len; all this messing about gets on my wick. More dancing please!

  • Comment number 39.

It's a shame Russell is out- I loved the fact that EVERYONE, celebrities, professionals, judges and presenters looked at him with love and endearment. Strictly needs more celebrities with Russell's (and Anita's) outlook. Also, I don't think I've ever seen Flavia so happy on Strictly. It's been great to see. People always comment on how well the teams get on, but the smiles on Flavant's faces show just what enjoying the moment REALLY is. Sadly, I think it's my fault Russell And Flavia are out- we move from Middlesex to Wales this week, and this is the week they're out. Coincidence? Hmmm. Sorry Russell- maybe it means you're supposed to help us move!

Regarding the sound- yes, it was terrible. However, it isn't the fault of the venue. I've been to many gigs at Wembley Arena, music, stand-up etc and the sound is always perfectly normal. DVD's I've watched at the same place have good quality sound. Either the sound engineer was having an off day (and let's face it- we all get them) or it was deliberately done to give the viewers the impression of size as all week they had been referring to how vast it is, and it wouldn't come across on TV.

  • Comment number 40.

And it is so obvious that Holly and Artem are not working as a partnership. Send Artem on leave to recover (whether he needs it or not) and let Brendan step in. Holly was clearly much happier with him last week.

  • Comment number 41.

Russell you can truly say you went out with a bang! ♥♥♥

  • Comment number 42.

The programme was fantastic on saturday, but to vast should have gone to BLACKPOOL instead, love tye program

  • Comment number 43.

what a gracious exit-well done Russell, it is vey evident that you enjoyed the show and paid tribute to your lovely partner as well. Your enthusiasm and energy is unique and will be missed.

  • Comment number 44.

Russel Grant has been fantastic!! I have said before if he was younger, fitter and slimmer he would be this years winner. Sorry you had to go but it wouldn't seem right if any real contenders had been voted off at this stage.

    5.Ian
The BBC will throw its weight behind Alex. They did it with Chris Hollins and suddenly a also run became a contender even though he hadn't improved. But to be fair Alex has improved, and her ballroom is impressive. But i didn't like her jive it looked very clumsy to me, could be the flat shoes.

    Barbara123
How were you disappointed with Jason's jive? It was disappointing that he missed his step and had to catch up, but apart from that it was fantastic.

I am pleased to read i am not alone with my disappointment with Wembly. It was more like an obstacle race. What was that lump in the middle of the floor? It was to big for them to dance around, see Holly and Artem, and to small for the ballroom dances. The most successful dances were performed solely on this and where they have tried to use more of the arena they have lost timing and continuity. If they ever go back they should consider building a larger raised dancefloor enabling all the dances to be performed on it and shoot the director/cameraman who keeps filming the lighting gallery.

As a possible alternative fund raiser why not sell DVD of the dances. I am sure they could raise an indecent amount of money for Children in Need if they could get a DVD of all Russells dances in the shops before Christmas

  • Comment number 45.

How on earth could be Holly & Artem be in the bottom two is beyond me. Great entertainment Russell you never be ballroom dancer & yet great entertainment & gracious loser.
My last four celebrities are Chelsea Healey, Holly Valance, Jason Donovan, Harry Judd, This week my last two should be Robbie Savage, Anita Dobson.

I am afraid the Wembley Arena is not for me I didn't like the centre stands sound quality poor no where near as good as Blackpool. Nothing wrong with BBC Centre, yes I know it was moved for more audience numbers.

The professionals dancers as usual outstanding, Really enjoyed "il divo" they were quality act certainly one of better one's that appeared on strictly

  • Comment number 46.

Glad Russell is gone, it was getting ridiculous, more like a circus act each week.
I want to see dancing, thats why i like Chelsee, Pasha always includes plenty of steps and not much faffing about.
The judging needs to be clarified, more emphasis is given to entertainment than technique now, i used to enjoy learning how a celeb could improve their technique.
I can see over the next couple of series if this continues it will no longer be about the dancing, the vt's dont concentrate on learning to dance but more about entertainment(they are awful)

  • Comment number 47.

Holly should not have been in the bottom two. Should have been Russell and Anita. Holly has had a very difficult time this last week or so not knowing who she would be dancing with. I think she is great. The final should be between Holly and Harry as they are far the best. Harry always seems so unassuming that he is doing so well and just quietly gets on with dancing.

  • Comment number 48.

I want to say a farewell to Russell and Flavia and thank them both for bringing some fun to Strictly.
They both got on so well together and Flavia brought out the best in Russell she did wonders with the choreography.
I hope Russell will carry on dancing as he clearly loves to entertain and he has been looking fitter than ever.
So thank you both for bringing the fun and entertainment to this series of Strictly, you are both two bright shining stars to remember.

  • Comment number 49.

Hi, I am a great fan of 'Strictly' but I did not enjoy the show from Wembley at all, the sound was awful, the cameras seem determined to use all the additional space availble to them to the detriment of the viewers as it was impossible to watch the dancing and form an opinion, it totally lost it's cosy and personal feel and heaven forbid the audience noise was like X Factor, ugh!!! Whilst I'm on my soapbox, why do the BBC insist on the pretence that the shows are filmed on seperate nights, come on, we all know the Sunday results show is filmed on Saturday night, please dont insult our intelligence! All in all a fantastic show cant wait for next week.

  • Comment number 50.

    The situation is getting fascinating.
Alex continues to improve and is now in the first division with Chelsee, Harry, Jason and Holly.
Anita and Robbie remain in the second division. Now that Russell has departed we can focus on the quality of the dancing.
I think Chelsee is the most consistent but who knows how it will develop?
I hope Anita (who has been impressive) and Robbie are the next two to go.
Yes Wembley didn't quite make it.

  • Comment number 51.

Sorry to see you go Russell & Flavia - although I do think it was your time to go. Will miss your entertaining dances though, Strictly will certainly be a duller place without you! I hope you keep up with the dancing Russell.

Glad it wasn't just me who was underwhelmed with Wembley. I think they should stick to Blackpool for future outings!

  • Comment number 52.

Very disappointed with the Wembley show- the floor was far too big, the sound wasn't good and the camera angles were all wrong. It may have been a great experience for the audience at the venue but not for the tv viewers. Shall be glad to see the show from the studio next week as I LOVE Strictly!!!
Farewell to my Russell- you did yourself proud and cheered us all up! Thank you.

  • Comment number 53.

Thank you Russell and Flavia. You put a smile on the face of everyone who watched you. The mirrorball will twinkle a little less brightly now that you have left the competition.

It was clever of the organisers to keep the four favourites in the second round of the eliminations - you knew there would be a shock couple in the bottom two and there were certainly some nervous people in our household.

  • Comment number 54.

The mirrorball will twinkle a little less brightly Strictly_No_Nonsense but by jingo it will have a bit more credibility.

Mind you the cannon was a great idea. I would have angled it a bit higher though and removed the roof of Wembley Arena. And maybe nicked the cannon from Edinburgh Castle instead of making one.

I think with RG departing the benchmark that the show has always tried to live by will be clearer to those who insist that entertainment plays any part. They will see the quality of the competitive element shine through and what the show can be if it was more focussed on the dance element.

  • Comment number 55.

Please don't do Wembley again - it was one of the worst shows I've ever seen. The venue was simply too big to work on tv. The sound was dreadful, the camera work was dreadful & the arena experience did not translate to tv. It was a total waste of time, though probably put a few quid in the coffers. If you need to leave the studios go back to Blackpool.

  • Comment number 56.

I read the daily mail article on this weekend and they reminded us there are only 4 weeks until the final in Blackpool. Be interesting to see how the remaining 7 couples cope with the pressure especially as SCD are upping the ante by getting the couples to perform 2 dances on the same night. Apparently this week there is a swingathon as well as the dance they are getting scored on but from the following week they will have to perform both a ballroom and a latin.

  • Comment number 57.

I assume Russell knew all along when he'd be out - I'm sure his chart will have said! I also have to assume he knows exactly who's won!

  • Comment number 58.

Sorry to see Russell & Flavia go,but I think it was their time. Shocked to see Holly & Artem in the bottom two...I like Anita usually, but thought she was poor on Sat! Felt sorry for Jason...it was all going so well!! & I have to agree with everyone...Wembley just too cavernous to translate to the T.V...Blackpool next year please!!

  • Comment number 59.

SCDFanatic, I agree. SCD succeeds because it combines the frivolous with the serious and over the past few series, the public has been amazing at judging just the right moment when the competition should be about the dancing and not just the entertainment. That time had come this weekend.

The memories of John (Sergeant), Ann, and Russell are just as strong as the memories of Jill, Mark and Kara and the show is stronger because of all of them.

  • Comment number 60.

Can only agree with the comments about Wembley - much too big for a ballroom dancing competition, and the flashing lights didn't help. The professionals' dances were brilliant, as always, but I felt they had been choreographed solely to fill the vast space. And as to the audience! I watched the X Factor once just to see what all the fuss was about and gave up half way through because I couldn't stand the howling from the audience, and lo and behold we had the same thing again on SCC!
I shall miss Russell but we are approaching the quarter finals and it is a dance competition. Next to go? Hopefully Robbie - his performance on Saturday was I thought very poor, not much real dancing - and although unlikely I would cheer if Chelsee were to leave, Good dancer but surely one of the most irritating contestants ever.

  • Comment number 61.

Sad too see Russell go but what a gent, he bowed out graciously and without any bitterness, I am now a fan of his!

Jason was not as good as he was made out to be, and he is a pro actor so should have performed much better, but ten to feel there is a bit of favouritism towards him from the judges. He is nothing special and although comments were made about his 'kicks and flips' they are not much use unless you remember the steps!

Chelsea could win this ... a non dancer she has shocked us all.

Robbie off next please, he is too much in love with himself (heaven knows why) not such a good dancer and do vane!

Other than Chelsea, this series has been disappointing and going to Wembley was a mistake, too big to see the dancers, too noisy and rather disappointing to say the least!

  • Comment number 62.

Russel and Flavia were great fun, and I think they knew it was their time to go. A very 'dignified ' exit!
Loved El Divo, but the sound quality from Wembley was awful.
4 potential winners in Harry, Chelsee, Alex and Jason; to which Holly could be added if she danced with Brendan!

  • Comment number 63.

Totally agree with previous comments on Wembly--- Awful !! Camera work made me feel more seasick than usual. I thought the raised platform was really quite dangerous. It wasn't that big, & it must of been on the dancer's minds that there was an edge there.
Music was pretty awful too. Dance music needs to be 'strict-tempo' with a definite beat. Most of that was just wishy-washy. Perhaps somebody needs to get some Victor Sylvester & Edmundo Ross records out for the orchestra to listen to !!

  • Comment number 64.

Does anybody from the Production dept. of Strictly ever bother to read these posts ?

  • Comment number 65.

The memories of John (Sergeant), Ann, and Russell are just as strong as the memories of Jill, Mark and Kara and the show is stronger because of all of them.

Yes, you will never forget the good dancers or the bad dancers, you will always have good memories of each. I know that People have said in the past and i probably said too that It is a dance competition and the good dancers desire to win Strictly but it is also an entertainment show you need the likes of Russell, Ann, And John to be in it.

4 potential winners in Harry, Chelsee, Alex and Jason; to which Holly could be added if she danced with Brendan!

    Agree with you

Alex is getting better every week She is the one who is on the journey if went from learning in the first week to the top of the leader on Saturday night.

Cheelsee is the dark horse of the competition.

HArry would be better if Alliona gave him a chance to show himself no offence to Aliona

JAson was good from the start

Holly -there is a chance of her winning if she gives more than she is giving and I thought that she was better partnered to Brendan than Antem

Anita - i feel her time is coming to an end like Robbie's

  • Comment number 66.

Why do people keep grouping John, Ann and Russell together?
John could not dance, but added humour and a sense of timing; that is when to bow out. Ann could not dance. I failed to detect the funny side and she went on and on and on. Beyond me. Russell on the other hand has rhythm. He has been dancing and performing. And the timing of his exit feels just right.

  • Comment number 67.

I'm with you about Chelsee Lincolnduncan. And behaving like a silly cry baby was ridiculous. She can dance, puts in the effort but I absolutely cannot warm to her at all.

  • Comment number 68.

Wembley, don't do it again, very poor for the viewer, crowd too noisy. Would not watch Strictly if every week was at Wembley

  • Comment number 69.

AT LAST..... he has finally gone. I'm sorry folks but he can't dance. People may have thought he was amusing, but personally, he got on my nerves. If he had been saved over Holly & Artem, anger would not have been close to how I'd have felt. I really think they should bring back the judges dance off. Too many good dancers have gone too soon, because they keep in someone who makes a mockery of the whole thing. Strictly manage to pick someone like this every season, Ann Widdicombe, John Sergent..... sound familiar.......

  • Comment number 70.

Gotta agree with a lot of the comments, the sound spoiled Wembley for me, wasn't crazy about any of the dances to be honest (or could it be I too full of a cold to notice ho hum :-( ), but defo agree that Holly danced better with Brendan last week, something certainly is missing between Holly and Artem. Pleased that Russell went, and hopefully next week it'll be Robbies turn - sorry folks his "dancing" makes me cringe.
I really like Chelsee's dancing but I keep getting drawn to those lips urgh!! too much botox pehaps??
    For the rest KEEEEPPPP DDAAANNNCCCIIINNNGG

I am so sorry that Russell has been voted out. It has been an absolute joy to watch him. He has bought colour and brightness to this wonderful programme. It is not often you see such an agreeable person, with no malice or confrontation. He got along with it, and totally enjoyed himself, I for one will miss him. Hope to see him again and RUSSELL don't forget.....KEEP DANCING..you are brilliant. Julie Oxberry

  • Comment number 72.

We really enjoyed watching your dances and we called you the "funny man" in our house as you always made us smile and laugh. We will miss you on strictly. XXXXXXXX Lots of Love, From Emily (age 6) and Chloe (age 3)

  • Comment number 73.

Please BBC do not use Wembley again! The sound was dreadful and the space just too large for the dancers. I did not enjoy the show as the camera shots did not show the dancers to their advantage. Back in the studio next week, thank goodness.

Craig was never decent. He was a very poor dancer all through his time, who refused to believe he wasn't excellent. He got to Blackpool in a wave of sentiment, and then was dropped like a hot rock. That cha-cha was as good as he ever got. I remember Flavia doing her best not to be embarrassed on all the ITT segments.

  • Comment number 75.

I'm with you about Chelsee Lincolnduncan. And behaving like a silly cry baby was ridiculous. She can dance, puts in the effort but I absolutely cannot warm to her at all.

Wouldn't you start crying to if you thought that 10 million saw more than they should have, I know I would have.

John left before the british public could vote him off and i agree with you that he couldn't dance , ann could dances, she was funny at the start but time went on she wasn't. When Russell came on Strictly, i said to myself that he was another John and Ann but He improved me wrong to my delight, he had rhythm, He danced and performed to every dance that he did on strictly. Russell made an effort on Strictly, He didn't do it as a joke, he put in 100% every week. the timing of his exit was right. I always had a smile on my face when he came on.

I just wanted to say what a gentleman Russell is - how gracious in defeat. I'm so glad that nice things are happening to him as a result of Strictly.

  • Comment number 77.

I don't know who was supposed to benefit from having the show at Wembley. It certainly wasnt the viewers at home - noisy, cameras too remote from the dancers, too many glaring lights etc. Why spoil the show?

  • Comment number 78.

I was at Wembley on Saturday and largely enjoyed the experience although we were 100 yards from the action and couldn't even see the screens that well - glad I took my opera glasses! I have to say that I was quite disturbed by the 'rabble-rousing' - the crowd were exhorted to make noise at what seemed inappropriate moments eg while people were speaking.... Why couldn't we just respond to what was going on naturally?
I also think it's crazy that the myth of the Sunday show is perpetuated. There are always slip-ups and nobody really believes - out here in 'audience land' - that the BBC would hire Wembley Arena two days running! Alesha didn't even change her frock!
It is sad to think how much manipulation of events and the 'truth' is standard practice in the world of television.
Strictly is still fab and I would go again - but it would be far better to get a ticket for the studio if only that were possible!

  • Comment number 79.

Poor Holly Valance was let down by a terrible outfit which made her look frumpy......

  • Comment number 80.

I am sorry but please do not go back to Wembley in the next series of Strictly. The arena is far to big. Everything seemed distant, echoy and the lights were very distracting. I could not see the dancers properly and what was the silly stage in the middle for? The dancers were using it either to leap off or dance around. How could the judges possibly see the footwork when they were on the opposite side. Strictly Come Dancing is a superb light entertaining/dancing programme, please do not spoil it by using a venue like this again. Blackpool was much better.

That is one thing you cannot fault the big man for. More than can be said for Ann Widdecombe who frankly waddled around like she owned the place. She was what Napoleon would have looked like in drag. like piles. And frankly exiling her to Elba would have been the only way to get rid. I think 10/10 for RG for entering into the spirit of the entertainment which is just to go out there and have fun.

    77. Monkbar

Whoever if was meant to benefit the whole thing went tits up for them Monkbar. Hard to think of who would have actually enjoyed it. I am not that hard to please but by jingo they made it hard work for me to like it. If they thought they were trying to get some lively atmosphere I have seen more liveliness in a cemetery. Sure the fans got going (somehow) but it was hardly the big show night they had promised.

  • Comment number 82.

I too am looking forward to the return to the usual Strictly studio. I couldn't get into the show this week because the venue was simply too big and you couldn't see the dances properly. I felt the the choreography suffered too, as the pro-dancers did their best to use the huge space, but they sometimes looked as though they were frantically running around, rather than dancing. I'm sure the atmosphere was fun if you were actually at Wembley, but it didn't work as a TV show. Blackpool's ballroom worked much better! We don't need gimicky camera-work - let's just see the dances.

Please don't try to make Strictly like the X factor. We love it as it is - if it ain't broke.... I love it precisely because it is NOT like the X Factor, with its unedifying arguments between the judges, staged or otherwise. X Factor is petty, mean-spirited and insincere. Strictly inspires people to try their best and be supportive of each other. The atmosphere on Strictly is really special and people can sense that, hence its popularity.

  • Comment number 83.

Just watched ITT. You would never guess from it that there was such an anti-Wembley reaction here on the blog would you?

    78. Interesting that the crowd was stirred up to make as much row as possible.

Honestly, the BBC is cheapening one of their prime assets.

  • Comment number 84.

I think Harry is turning into this years Matt Baker, in other words he is not receiving the praise he deserves.

  • Comment number 85.

Russell was a real gent tonight he enjoyed his time and was sincere in his thanks and praise of every one. Ian@83 agree with you, you would think we all thought it was the best show ever. could someone tell me,do they ever take notice if they read these blogs

  • Comment number 86.

Sorry to see Russel go I will miss him,is it me or do the judges have their favourites Reason I ask is that I can't understand all the negative comment's that poor Robbie seem's to get especially from Craig I for one enjoyed Robbie and Ola's opening dance!!!!!! but I didn't think Harry and Aliona's dance was as a good as the judges made it out to be.....I kept waiting for Harry to start dancing but Aliona seemed to be doing all the dancing and yet Harry was praised.I do think Harry can dance but I just didn't see a lot of dancing from him at Wembley [sorry].My favourite on the night was without a doubt Chelsea and Pash as she calls him,so come on Chelsea and Pacha to win.

*wonder when/if we will ever hear from anyone who was in the audience on Saturday or from any of the studio audience.
*now that there are only 7 couples does this mean more time for tess and bruce? heaven help us!
    * would like less vt and more dancing from the pros
    * anyone listening?

    @75

10 million people saw more than they should have because the lady, not content (by her own admission) with the attributes with which nature endowed her, opted for enhancement, by way of cosmetic surgery.

The wardrobe dept. as I understand, are employed as designers and seamstresses. I doubt that erecting scaffolding is part of their job description.

Perhaps if Chelsee had shown some sense of humour and a more mature reaction, those of us critical of her "woe is me attitude" would have been more forgiving. At present the tears and histrionics are more suited to a hapless Ophelia or maybe a Greek tragedy.

Nevertheless, frontage firmly secured and mental torpitude in check, she has shown that she can actually dance. I don't think that anyone of those of us who have been irritated by her "little girl lost" persona have ever denied that.

However, fawning sychophancy and constructive criticism will never go hand in hand, and she needs to decide which to choose.

If not for the outcome of this competition, at least for the real world.

  • Comment number 90.

Ohh Russell. We are really going to miss you. Flavia did a fantastic job. It was the right time for you to go but I think that the joy and fun may have vanished from the screen. Great that you left on such a high - Strictly magic! Its onto the serious matter of the best dancer now...come on Harry. Let go a bit and you could win this.

  • Comment number 91.

    90. Aly.

To be brutally honest we have to admit the aplomb that was heavily invested in producing the 'fun' element only happened because fun is all he was able to offer what with certain inherent physical limitations hampering any serious idea he had of matching the rest of the couples on the more physically demanding elements.

Just watch the iPlayer showing of the weekends show and skip to about 54.53 and you see he just can't physically get anything like flicks strong (more pronounced) enough because of his size. Compare that to Jason's Jive later on and even allowing for the mistiming section. How much more physically lighter and stronger he was.

Sure he was a bundle of fun but because he never was never likely to win was he not also just getting in the way, albeit with all the best intention in the world?

  • Comment number 92.

It was past Russell`s time. I agree about the noise - did
    n´t like Wembley.

  • Comment number 93.

I hope the only reason that SCD went to Wembley was for Children in Need. As has already been said, it didn't work for a TV audience but hopefully the BBC has learned it's lesson and will stick to the studio or Blackpool Tower Ballroom which is after all the home of ballroom.

  • Comment number 94.

lincolnduncan at 89. Fab post, had me in stitches. And it has emboldened me to say I absolutely cannot stand Chelsee. Yuk. So there.

  • Comment number 95.

It seems that very few people enjoyed the Wembley show. Will the producers take any notice of these comments? Certainly Zoe Ball has taken no notice and continues to gush on about how wonderful the Wembley show was. Perhaps it was for the participants but not for the viewers! Please, please producers do not encite the studio audience to scream and shout over the judges' comments and to barrack them. It is extremely irritating as a viewer, and listener, to be bombarded by the incessant noise. ( The X Factor is a good example of the road NOT to follow!)
If the BBC does not take notice of the numerous critical comments it will just go to prove that our opinions are not valued but rather dismissed as unimportant! In fact Zoe Ball has never included a less than complimentary viewer's point of view.

  • Comment number 96.

It won't be the same without Russell and Flavia. He did an interview for next week's " Radio Times " and all credit to him for overcoming his various problems and turning his life around so well. He could dance and always tried his best and there was a wonderful friendship between Flavia and himself which shone through in their dancing. I taped " It Takes Two " on Monday to be sure I did not miss their interview. Good bye and good luck Team Flavant!

  • Comment number 97.

Will miss Russell, THANK YOU, would have loved to see Flavia and he WIN. What a breath of fresh air, a true trooper! He is a wonderful, funny, enthusiastic, respectful celebrity; a great example to all. Never takes himself to seriously.
The judges got it right with him, praising his efforts; unlike the attacks they have made in past years on others who have tried their best!

Love Zoe's sparkly shoes the other night, where did she get them from?

  • Comment number 98.

So right, 95. Zoe has just used three viewers comments, all gushing. Then she has the cheek to tell us to ring in and 'don't hold back.' This is how I imagine living in Communist Russia must have been. If you have a different point of view, you don't exist.

  • Comment number 99.

I couldn't understand why Russell hadn't signed up to the strictly tour although I knew that Flavia wouldn't be able to partner him because she is touring with Vincent - now I understand that he is having his knee operation in January so obviously will be getting over this!

    Well said!

    teddyandgypsy@94&98

Thank you. Your comment on Aliona and the lampost had the same effect. I think we must share a similar sense of humour. Well balanced and informed that is.

Yesterday I posted a comment on another site about the ongoing Wembley fiasco. I said that it seemed like history was being rewritten.

Regarding your comment above, it seems that we share even more than a sense of humour. Without expanding my comment further, and maybe I should have done, what you say is exactly right.

And now on a lighter note, before they consign us to the salt mines of Siberia, good luck to Anita and Brendan on Saturday. I have a soft spot for Anita and although I haven't always warmed to Brendan, I know you like him.I hope it goes well for them both. At the very least Bren deserves something out of this for keeping two celebs going when their profs fell by the wayside!

However sad to say, should Robin make a similarly miraculous recovery to Artem, Brendan could well be joining you and I in the salt mines. Resigned to history!

    Although somehow I think not!
