Brendan comes to the rescue again!

Post categories:

BBC Strictly Nora | 12:16 UK time, Tuesday, 22 November 2011

With the news that poor Robin Windsor has been struck down with an injury, Brendan Cole has once again hot-footed into the breach to partner Anita Dobson in this week's show. After his previous form partnering Holly, we think it's only right that Brendan dons a knight's costume to illustrate his chivalrous side.

We wish Robin a very speedy recovery and the best of luck to Anita and Brendan or 'Team Doble'.

Anita and Brendan ready to shimmy

Best of luck to Anita and Brendan this week, and hope you get better soon Robin!

  • Comment number 2.

Nice One Brendan, hope your foot clears up soon Robin !!

  • Comment number 3.

Looks like he needs to keep his armour well polished. ☺

  • Comment number 4.

what a gent he is - best of luck Anita & Brendan, speedy recovery Robin!

  • Comment number 5.

Brendan, you are coming to the rescue again. Best of luck Brendan and Anita. Hope you will be better soon Robin

  • Comment number 6.

Robin get better soon & best of luck to Anita! But why has Anton not been asked to come to the rescue?

  • Comment number 7.

    Was Anton not available?

I can see why Brendan was an appropriate stand in for Holly but surely Anton would be better suited for Anita?

  • Comment number 8.

    Good luck team Branita

  • Comment number 9.

Be interesting how he does on Saturday for me like. Not only has he to do a style of dance that Anita hasn't done so he will have the Swing-a-thon. The top three pros from last season's Swing-a-thon are all still in; including the winner (Artrem). This is the first time BC will have done it.

  • Comment number 10.

Yes, I think Anton should have been asked, as a reward for having to put up with that awful Italian woman who can´t dance.

  • Comment number 11.

Anton would have been a good choice in lots of ways but I know that Artem and Robbin are great friends so after Brendan had just stepped in for Artem maybe he was just an obvious choice to stand in for Robin maybe? She will find a great difference in the way they each teach I'm sure. Good luck Anita for Saturday.

  • Comment number 12.

Poor Robin, hope you recover quickly. Good luck to Anita and Brendan. Although like others I think Anton may well have suited Anita as well, if not better than Brendan. Either way all the best on Saturday.

  • Comment number 13.

Wish Brendan was dancing with Hollie again!

  • Comment number 14.

I can't see it working between Anita & Brendan as Brendan tends to be impatient in training and drags his partners round with him at his speed rather than dancing to his partners speed. Although Anita's a pro and the show must go on, I don't think she will react well to 2 pros in the training room - however I'm prepared to be proved wrong!

  • Comment number 15.

I hope you get better soon Robin but like a few of the posters on this blog I agree that Anton would have been a better partner for Anita. Having said that I wish Brendan all the best with Anita but he is definetely more suited to Holly

  • Comment number 16.

I dont know where else to put this....... All through the comments from the public there seems to be a concensus that Wembley was disappointing..the sound was really poor, the space too big to create the right atmosphere, all in all a brave failure.
But no, if you listen to the stars and presenters they are presenting the show as a triumph that it clearly wasnt.
Cynical me is thinking they block booked the venue for more than just this year and they have no choice but to use it again. I really cannot believe the BBC can see last week as anything but a disappointment

  • Comment number 17.

Yes, I notice that all the negative comments about Wembly have been removed today. Let's just hope that somebody reads them.

  • Comment number 18.

This is interesting cos the bookies have got team Dobbin going out this Saturday. Will this confuse things?

  • Comment number 19.

get well soon robin! good luck anita and brendan!

  • Comment number 20.

Just thought I'd call in and wish Robin a speedy recovery and also Anton can't see it I mean yes he may be compatible with Anita yes but do take into account the last two partners he had let's just say he didn't do to well with.

Anne Widdecombe was dragged on her back so much last year I'm surprised she still doesn't have the bruises as a lasting memento and with Nancy same thing except their routines were more farce than dancing and they ended up with the lowest scores, rubbish reviews and the bottom two all the time.

At least with Brendan Anita has somewhat of a fighting chance of staying in for the quarter finals week after next and also Brendan in my opinion would have more stamina than Anton when it comes to a swing-a-thon no good luck to Team Doble this Sarurday.

and enjoy the rest of the week and Keeeeeeep dancing

  • Comment number 21.

Hi ojtocs. I agree with your counsel for Aliona and if she heeds it I am sure they will win Len round.

I remember back in series 6 Lens wrath was directed in back to back weeks toward Rachel & Vincent because although he liked their Viennese Waltz and Jive routines he wasn't buying them and actually said that if Rachel couldn't knock his socks off with a jive he didn't know what she could knock them off with. Next week they won him over with a quickstep style American Smooth which he awarded a 9 and described as "A gem of a performance".

Also 2 series ago Laila & Antons 1st dance was a tango which Anton choreographed to be almost entirely in hold (if not entirely) and Len loved it. When it was his turn to comment he called out "Anton You Beauty".

If Aliona heeds your advice and Harry performs his quickstep to the best of his ability I am sure they will (just like Rachel & Vincent) win Len round and he would be more than happy to produce the 10 some of his performances have deserved. He actually said after their waltz that had it not been for the length of time at the end they were out of hold he would have given them a 10.

  • Comment number 22.

At this rate, Brendan will be needing more metal polish for his suit of armour.

  • Comment number 23.

Hmmm. Can't actually dance in full plate. I am sure it would prove far too restrictive. A chain mail hauberk, on the other hand ( similar to the stuff worn by Arthur's knights in the Merlin show) might well be a go-er. Especially if costume were to use the common technique of faking such a suit by knitting one out of silvered wool, rather than using metal rings. Perhaps an idea for later?

Good luck anyway. Don't forget to add a heavy steel mace to the outfit. Come in handy for negotiating overtime payments later ;)

  • Comment number 24.

Remember the tv program "Rent a Ghost"? I think it would be great to do a little ditty for brendan or other for this situation, to that theme. Something like "If your dance partner is ill or injured you can, RENT A PRO. Lol, something for the production team to work on.

  • Comment number 25.

Sorry, must ask again. Would like to see Holly dancing with Brendan again.

  • Comment number 26.

Weird isn't it - Wembley clearly never was! All the comments have vanished but somebody forgot to tell Zoe Ball who was still going on about how tremendous it was tonight. And then Karen Hardy said it was fabulous. No more pushing for you to be a judge then Karen, as you clearly can't see and can't read. Bah!

  • Comment number 27.

I have just seen some stuff on some of the blogs about Wembley. It's a shame if people's opinions haven't been acknowledged but perhaps the blogs aren't considered the official way of expressing disastisfaction. Maybe not enough people have complained? If the BBC do have to return to Wembley next year, then perhaps it should just be a show dance episode for all of the competitors and not part of the competition? Would that solve the problem?

  • Comment number 28.

we have only just Artem Back from an Injury and we are now Losing Robin for a week because of an Injury . get well soon Robin

  • Comment number 29.

botafogo @17 - comments removed? I've just been back a few blogs to see, but found plenty of negative comments about the Wembley show and the number of pages seemed the same as I remember. But having just caught up with ITT on iplayer I did think it a bit strange that the comments on here were not mentioned even in passing. I'm sure Claudia would have said something...

  • Comment number 30.

I have my doubts that these posts are ever looked at by the SCD production team. Be a good idea if they were, just to evaluate public opinion.
I do agree that , if they are going to have an 'awayday' show, it should be a showdance, with no restrictions. Mind you, I sometimes feel it is that already, as it is often a job to tell what dance they are actually doing.

  • Comment number 31.

Re:- Wembley. Strange isn't it? Like history being rewritten.

All the negative comments are still on the blogs as far as I can tell, and those in favour can probably be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Switch on the TV however, tune into a SCD related programme, and these blogs could be posted on another planet.

Has anyone read any adverse comments in the Press? Haven't seen any myself so far but haven't really had much time to scan them.

Maybe the BBC and it's licence paying viewers live in a parallel universe, with that of the viewer being the real world.

  • Comment number 32.

Btrendan was lovely with Jo Wood, why wouldn't he be lovely with Anita?

  • Comment number 33.

I just wondered why you never interview Dave Arch or any of the musicians, while you do interview behind-the-scenes people. They are so brilliant, I would like to know more about them.

  • Comment number 34.

Re Wembley it's obvious that Zoe and Karen have been told to keep to the party line - I do hope that the BBC will take on board some of the very valid points that the viewers brought to their attention on these blogs. Nobody is saying that Wembley wasn't a great entertaining night for those who were watching and taking part, we are just saying as a viewing event it just didn't work and the main reason was that Wembley was just too vast for two people ballroom dancing. Other venues may be fine but Wembley was just a poor choice.

  • Comment number 35.

Brendan has definitely been busy this series and hope that Anita is going to be able to take on board a new dancing partner/teacher, learning her dance and coming to terms with the dance-a-thon as well. Now that Russell has gone I fear that Anita is probably favourite to leave next week but she has done amazingly well and has definitely achieved her goal by learning to dance.

  • Comment number 36.

I can't understand why everyone thinks Anton should have stepped in? Is it because Anita is 62? That's ageism! She's dancing with Robin who's only a youngster. Anton has been acting like the 'Class Clown' for this whole series and I was glad to see the back of him! My only concern for Anita is that Brendan has a tendency to drag his celebrity around if they don't keep up and I hope that won't happen on Saturday. Good luck Anita!!!

Also, I know Len said he would start to penalise people for using lifts in their routines, but are they going to be loosing points for using props, because there seems to be an awful lot of them this series too, not so much dancing together as dancing round a prop!

  • Comment number 37.

Yes ITT last night was full of how wonderful Wembley was and are we surprised? No we are not

and no point it officially writing to the BBC as they will ignore you. They always do. They have your licence fee and are not intersted in what we think. There are times when I wish the licence fee would be abolished and I never thought I would ever say that. They would have to listen then

  • Comment number 38.

Flea & Chrissy...I wondered why they didn't ask Anton as well but maybe it's because he's busy preparing for the Christmas Special which Brendan is not appearing in.

  • Comment number 39.

Could we have a respose from the Production team as to whether they read these post or not please !!!

  • Comment number 40.

Fortunately it worked well for Holly, but Brendon and Anita mmmm not sure. Anyway why not Matthew, will we really ever know the real story??

  • Comment number 41.

As Anita is doing a Cha Cha, Brendan is definitely the better choice of Stand in. ♥

  • Comment number 42.

I hope Robin will be better soon. As to Brendan he can be tough, but only if he thinks his partner is not trying their best; he was charming with Jo Wood because she worked hard and would try anything so he liked and respected her for that. Good luck Anita and Brendan for Saturday!

  • Comment number 43.

Poor Robin, Brendan to the rescue again!

  • Comment number 44.

Just thought I'd call in and say Tiny Dancer Anita is one trouper I mean she has kept up with Robin very well held her own her Charleston with Robin 2 weeks ago fast and furious and she did it really well and her American Smooth with Robin sexy and stylish she did that well.

My doubts would lie with Brendan though in a Cha Cha he's not exactly very skilled in Cha,Cha if his previous Cha,Cha with Lulu was anything to go by.

    Keeeeeeeeeeep Dancing

  • Comment number 45.

And as for Anton being available I think he's going to have his hands full being partnered with potty Su Pollard late of Hi-De-Hi I would expect plenty of props, plenty of jokes, and plenty of messing about and that's just Su Anton must be in his elements devising crazy ideas for a dance routine.

    History repeating itself methinks

  • Comment number 46.

AndreaJS, I would also like to know more about Dave Arch and his orchestra and singers. It's good of you to bring it on. They are brilliant.

  • Comment number 47.

I think everyone would like ro know more about Dave Arch ,his orchestra and singers, they ARE Brilliant

  • Comment number 48.

Fergal have to say in all fairness that we probably didn't see the best of Brendan's cha cha cha -he obviously would have had difficult choreographing a cha cha for Lulu with her limited dance ability and remembering the steps etc, I'm sure you will see a great deal more content in his next cha cha!

  • Comment number 49.

I suppose any comments people want to make about Wembley could be directed to 'Points of View' - the Beeb must read those even if they don't read these?

  • Comment number 50.

Well I never did you ever! Brendan to the rescue again! He must be feeling elated dancing with all these lovely women! I'm sorry to hear Robin is off dancing this week and I wish him a speedy recovery.

  • Comment number 51.

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 52.

Btrendan was lovely with Jo Wood, why wouldn't he be lovely with Anita?

Brendan was lovely to Jo wood, that was the series that he mellowed. it must be frustrating for the pros to teach there skill to people whether they are celebs or not.

Do you know what strictly should is to have a competition for the Strictly Come Dancing fans and a programme where the pros teach so many fans dances. I know that will never happen.

  • Comment number 53.

I think the comments about Anton acting like a clown is harsh - it's probably because he gets the "joke" celebrities, he has no choice.
I think he should have replaced Robin, not Brendan, nothing to do with age, but what happens if Artem gets a recurrence of his back injury, who would step in then? Or would Brendan dance twice!!

  • Comment number 54.

About the BBC reading these comments. Another outlet to try is the Radio Times Strictly pages. At the present moment they are running a survey to ask if this is the best SCD ever? Perhaps bloggers might like to have a look at this. Also there is another blog on the site where only a few people have contributed to at present, but it might be a way of getting opinions across. Finally, there is of course the possibility of writing to the actual Radio Times. Somebody might get a letter printed.

  • Comment number 55.

Re above comment the address is radiotimes.com/strictly

  • Comment number 56.

Hi, I've posted on the RT site as suggested!

  • Comment number 57.

Yes, it does seem strange to see Brendon stepping into the breach again, but perhaps he's been employed as the official sub if any of the male pros are injured. Perhaps others such as Anton are actually otherwise engaged. Personally, I'd like to see Ian Waite back on the floor again but he's probably a bit too tall for Anita. But, whatever you think, Brendon is a professional and should do the job well enough.

On the subject of Wembley - although this probably isn't the forum for it - the feeling of total disappointment rumbles on. However, even if the BBC ignore comments in these blogs, they won't be able to ignore similar comments made on newspaper websites and virtually every other forum across the internet.

I do find it strange that they have made absolutely no public comment on the Wembley debacle though. I wouldn't expect anything out of ITT - remember the fuss over Alesha joining the judging panel? No mention of the contraversy at all. But I would have expected something in the showbiz columns of the national newspapers and perhaps on TV news. Perhaps in the general scheme of things it isn't actually that important.

Remember that a complaint made via the BBC's website - click on the contact link right at the bottom of any page - is logged and usually gets a reply. And if Ofcom get sufficient complaints on a particular topic they are also obliged to act.

Oh... and on another point entirely, yes I would like to see more on Dave Arch and the band. It is quite incredible how they can deliver on so many different styles and songs - anything from Swan Lake (yes they were playing - watch Dave conducting in the background) to Salsa - and they do deserve more recognition.

  • Comment number 58.

I so agree with your last comment about Dave Arch - I've given up how many times I've requested on ITT for Zoe to do a piece on him and band - but the music side of things seems to be constantly ignored with all other aspects covered by the programme. They absolutely deserve more recognition and it would be interesting to see how the process works from the point of choreography to music rehearsals - maybe a seperate programme would be an idea. How about it BBC?

  • Comment number 59.

I am disgusted at the behaviour of Brendan Cole and James Jordan whilst Tess is interviewing. They are extremely rude and acting like school kids. This is very distracting to the programme and they should be stopped.

  • Comment number 60.

    59. Boiling in oil or a weeks holiday with Lulu?
