There was a full four minutes of build-up to a very weak and not particularly original joke - I was massively disappointed by that. There's a lot of potential with this show - sport is only superficially satirised on stuff like the News Quiz and HIGNFY, so I really want it to be better than it is.
Why did they not just go for an out-and-out parody of Gray and Keys, rather than making the tiniest references and jabs here and there? That's what I came to the site expecting: it just felt very watered down, with few actual jokes apart from "Rooney has a funny accent" and "Jose Mourinho doesn't like Arsene Wenger very much"...

To #20, this is a blog for comments about Special 1 TV. Where does it say only positive comments should be included? I think this is an awful waste of time, surely the comments section is the perfect place for me to share that view? As for 606, unfortunately they shut down the comments section for that particular article, I think because they had so many people vent their frustration at the decision to axe it. Last time I saw it there about 300 comments on there and not many were in favour of the decision. Actually I was one who said I wasn't too fussed about 606, however I can appreciate how many people do enjoy it. And I can also see from the comments section on here how many people enjoy Special 1 TV and it's not much of a competition.

I'm not saying as I don't enjoy it they should get rid of it, I'm saying that as they're looking for things to cut this seems like it should be pretty high on the list as opposed to 606.

And it seems that the BBC isn't listening to it's users in the content they want kept here - i.e. 606 and a couple of popular blogs they've got rid of. If Special1TV comes from BBC THREE, then keep it there, and there only. The majority of users here don't like it, and having it on the Sport website only gives the appearance of it taking the place of items that people used to like!!!

Anyway, I say get rid of it all. Everything.

So as you've said this is already on TV why is money being wasted by putting together a blog and putting it on there as well? Surely it's already out there on tele for people to watch if they really want to. As cuts are being made to all the BBC online services I'm of the opinion this is a good a thing to cut as anything. They don't have to listen to my opinion but that doesn't mean I'm not entitled to give it and a comments section seems the perfect place to do that. If they don't want people writing negative things then don't have a comments section. And for those saying "don't watch it if you don't like it", don't read the comments at the bottom if you don't like them. I'm not here writing this to please you, I'm making a comment hoping the BBC takes notice of some of the things written here. If they don't fine but I like to think they ask for comments because it's a quick and simple way of getting people's views on a subjectm, good or bad.

I don't normally come on here and comment on this blog because I know a lot of the negative comments all say bring back Robbo and review of the week and things like that. Both blogs which I loved but it seems that as the BBC are making cuts they're not going to bring something back which they already got rid of unfortunately. The only reason I decided to comment on this one this time was because of the blog put up earlier in the week regarding the planned closure of 606. If it hadn't been for that I wouldn't have come on here but as the BBC are looking for ways to cut their budget I decided to come on here to give my opinion on this. That way at least I'm trying to do something to ensure the things I enjoy stay and that they look at things I don't enjoy as things to cut. If it stays it doesn't affect my life at all but this seemed to me the perfect place to air my views.

What I object to and the reason I'm still commenting on here is when people then tell me and others to shut up because they don't like those views. There's no need for that when people are trying to have a debate and get their poitn across. No-one wins an argument simply by telling the other people to shut up. Defend your view by all means, that's what this section is for surely, but that doesn't mean you have to attack anyone else's views.

This episode, whilst amusing, seriously missed an opportunity to highlight hypocrisy of a channel which sacks someone for 'off-air' remarks, which were apologised for, whilst showing the overtly sexist Soccer AM once a week.

Whether you like it or not, the BBC is a global 'brand', and a message board that is predominated by childish comments and arguments, doesn't really look good on an organisation that is respected throughout the world.

I've advocated the long overdue ending of 606 for a while now, and I'm glad that it has finally come to fruition.

I stopped going to the boards because 99% of comments are puerile and are from ''noobs'' who don't have a clue about football.

Yesterday, after the decision to fine Blackpool £25,000 for fielding a ''weakened'' side, I went over to the Blackpool 606 board in the hope of seeing some interesting and intelligent comments on the issue...

Boy, did I waste my time !

Every single thread was filled with ''WUMs'', puerile comments, xenophobia, and ''serious'' contributors whose ''logic'' would be laughed at by 8-year-olds.

I have to say: good riddance to 606, and I'm glad that the BBC will finally get rid of this waste of money, and hopefully spend some of the money they've saved on something more intellectually stimulating, rather than a medium for playground insults.

As for S1TV; I watch them - largely out of boredom - every week, but I can't say that I find them that funny.

However, unlike many on here, I don't think that my personal opinion is the be all and end all, and I have absolutely no objection to the BBC continuing this programme if it's popular ( as it apparently is ).

I personally don't find it funny because, as others have commented on, it's very outdated; Mourinho, Sven etc. dates it to the mid-2000s, and the jokes that go along with the characters are those that would be relevant around 2006. eg. ''voyeur'', the arrogant ''Special 1'', Eriksson supposedly being uncommitted...

The puppets are visually amusing, but the characterisation and voices are extremely poor.

Mourinho talks in an Eastern European accent, not a Portuguese one.

The Rooney character is portrayed as an innocent, mischievous child, which has absolutely no relevance to his real character that most people would identify him with.

Just about all Sven jokes relate to his time as England manager, and are extremely irrelevant today.

And I realise just because I say I'm not a fan and would rather 606 was kept instead that doesn't mean it's going to happen. But that's what I'd rather see happen and that's what the BBC needs, people to say what they like and dislike about the website and the services. They're looking at any and every service they offer to see where cuts can be made. If you don't support the things you want them to keep you can't complain when they decide to axe them. As I said back in #51, the only reason I came on here to air my views was because they shut down the comments section for the 606 article. Sorry but I'd rather 606 was kept than Special 1 TV. And as they shut that one down and then this one popped up as the main blog on the home page it seemed the perfect place to come and share that view. Blame whoever shut down the 606 blog.

And I agree with what some people are saying that 606 isn't a perfect place to be, to be honest I barely even comment in any of the football sections now as I think there are too many WUMs and it isn't as good as it used to be. But for lesser known and commented on sports it's terrific. You actually get less people bt more knowledgable people so you can have a decent debate about things.

People may not like what I've said in previous posts today but at least it's got a debate going and people have come out in support of a programme they like whih is great. Hopefully it gives the powers-that-be more knowledge about what they should be looking at when it comes to deciding where to make those cuts.

It is clear to me that the grand majority of viewers do not understand the references and jokes made in the show, and therefore don't find it funny and feel the need to set aside some time every week to complain about it. The brilliance of this show lies in the subtlety of the humour and in particular the references to real people and things in the football world. Many, it seems, do not understand that the humour on this show is not of the independently funny one-liner variety nor the stand-up variety. The show is funny and worth watching if and only if you understand that almost every bit of dialogue on the show is a commentary on real life people or events.

The solution then, for the hordes who continue to hate on someone else's creative work week after week, is simple. Either:

    1) Stop watching the show. You clearly don't understand the references and the show is not for you. That is fine, but accept it and move on with your life.
    2) Educate yourself a little bit about the goings-on in the world of football and about the real life characters impersonated on the show. Hopefully then you will start to understand the references and appreciate Rosenstock's work.

You can say what you like about 606 and the BBC, (which surely has much bigger problems to worry about than a few angry voices in the comments section of a 5-minute television show), but what bothers me is that people come on here every week, watch a show they already know that they don't like, and then comment that it's rubbish because the humour goes over their heads.

As a USA fan of S1TV, I can not speak to the concern of BBC cost cutting and license fees. I do know that my mates and I really enjoy the show and find it very funny. We have followed it from Setanta days and are very grateful the BBC has picked it up, and has made it possible for us to see it on this blog. I pay a healthy monthly fee for cable TV and support our US Public Broadcasting annually, even though the majority of the programming is material I will never watch or enjoy, especially on cable. It is the price I pay to access the media I like, and ignore the rest. These are indeed strange times, and I fully understand the dismay that others feel when something they like is cancelled. We felt the same when S1TV was dropped from Setanta after their financial problems, not to mention the numerous programs that have been cancelled over the years that I really enjoyed and sorely miss. There are several BBC shows over the years that I would love to see on American PBS, but the BBC has kept them from us and that is just the way it is. I have to see them in pieces on YouTube. So, as much as I may empathize with those who do not like S1TV and are losing something they do like, I for one hope the BBC keep The Special One on the air and keep us fans of the show laughing. How will Sven get out of this one?

Didnt laugh out loud but at the same time parts of it were slightly amusing. Can see why people like it its just 'not my cup of tea'.

Confused by some of the posts though, some people seem to know they dont like it and then still watch it and comment telling others they dont like it. Very odd.

Must admit Im not particularly thrilled on the idea of my license fee being spent on this but I can certainly think of a lot of other things Id axe before this.

For all those of you who have requested others to stop telling them to shut up. These comments obviously reflect your lack of knowledge of the show as they are quite simply referring to the manner in which The Special One constantly tells Sven, FIFA, EUFA etc to "Shut Up". And therein lies your issue with the program - you don't get its sense of humouor and will therefore not find it funny. But some of us do find it funny and I would rather see "Ready,Steady,Cook" slashed from the BBC budge than Special 1 TV - there are literally hundreds of programs funded from our licence fee but I would imagine the cost of this program compared to some of the others on the BBC is minimal.

I have watched most episodes and most of them have been poor. However, a couple of them have been quite amusing, and each week I hope it'll be a good one.

I used to love Spitting Image, and am hoping that this will one day be as good. It has the potential, but the scripts are generally not that great, and some of the voices are awful, apart from Mick from Wolverhampton. :-)

This week they were gifted a golden opportunity to come up with a cracker. They failed.

Are we about to witness an end to these despotic, undemocratic and authoritarian regimes with events unfolding in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and elsewhere as we saw during the 1980's when Eastern Bloc countries finally secured their freedom from behind the Iron Curtain? Let's hope so. The big question is how the USA will evolve its foreign policy that runs contrary to the USA's concept of an open democracy by funding these unpopular regimes through its foreign aid programs that provides protection for those in power but does little to improve the lives of those whose country is receiving this aid. This is the biggest wake call that faces the USA today and puts more pressure on its need for energy reform policies to move more rapidly away from its dependence on imported oil which arguably is the primary reason to sustain many of these Middle Eastern despotic regimes.

Thanks Mike. Yes, I believe that was most imp game of the WC for India. Bcoz you always dream of playing in finals and for that you have to win the semi finals. It was more imp and only more special as win came against Pakistan. However looking ahead for today's game - biggest one but hopefully lesser pressure today than it was last time. First 10 overs of both innings are crucial - whoever wins this battle will win the match.

A first wooden spoon in the club’s history and the reality of the Dockers making the finals last year does not provide a lot of promise for West Coast in 2011.

In what is very much a rebuilding phase, coach John Worsfold will be reliant on Nic Naitanui and veteran Daniel Kerr to aid the Weagles in embarking on a better 2011.

They have improved on that level Jack... the youngsters have another year's experience under their belt and the oldies played well today. Andrew Embley and Dean Cox had excellent games... Daniel Kerr played his first game for some time and put in a decent shift... he is one of the best rovers in the game and was sorely missed for much of last season. He'll take a couple of games to find the pace and when he does he'll add a lot to our game this season.

Darling, who is a rangy sort of a half forward and Gaff, a speedy small man.. Darling has played the last two games while Gaff was a substitute (a new thing that has been introduced this season), he played about a quarter and a bit.

Crouch was off after 15 minutes so it was 10 men for pretty much the entire game not just the second half. They got ripped by Real though and hardly got out of their own half.

As for the Schalke result that was fantastic especially being at the San Siro. Raul is wanting to set his records a bit higher before he retires and they must be favourites to qualify for the semis where they will be dangerous

Fantastic result for Schalke 04 against Inter at San Siro. Raul scored his 70th Champs League goal…looks like he wants to set an unbeatable record.

As for Spurs, it was difficult once Crouch got sent off, he made 2 stupid tackles and put his side under pressure. Perfect result for the Special 1. Now he can come to WHL and park the bus. I think it was bad reffing at times, Carvalho should also have been sent off...

So looks like both the QF’s played yesterday have been one sided and the return leg will just be a mere formality.

Biggest question is when there were free kicks to be crossed into the box why was Drogba taking them rather than getting on the end of them

    WEST BROMWICH ALBION

Great to see the Baggies back in the Premier League - big club, big crowds and a great atmosphere at The Hawthorns. It will be a real feat, however, if Roberto di Matteo stops them boing-boinging back into the Championship.

He has worked well to sign goalkeeper Boaz Myhill, while Nicky Shorey is a solid performer having arrived from Aston Villa. West Brom are also to be commended for fighting off the attentions of West Ham United for the excellent Graham Dorrans.

For all this, I fear for Albion's lack of quality and cutting edge over a long season.

    VERDICT: Relegation.

Really good game. Lots of chances and Lampard should have done better with his chance. Ancelotti shoudl have started with Drogba as Torres caused us little bother at all really. Officials were pretty good - disappointed that Hernandez had a goal chalked off due to "his head being offside" - bit daft that one it's like if someone is level and does a diving header or stioks a leg out - should be onside but no refs fault.

They got the sending off right and getting a goal so quickly after Drogba scored avoided it being really tight at the end. I do wish Nani would stop the imaginary card thing - I think everytime he does it Giggs should slap him - he'll sharp stop it

We were anyways going to drop those points irrespective of penalty decisions... rather than lamenting ref I think Arsene should be scolding his defenders Clichy and Song who failed to clear the ball... then gave away a free kick on the edge which lead to Eboue foul in the box.
