Interactive TV Today interview with BBC Red Button's John Denton

Post categories:

One of the many pleasurable tasks I have to undertake is to promote the BBC Red Button service, and sometimes this means talking to journalists based overseas.

It is always a challenge to ensure that they understand the breadth of coverage and number of viewers using the service seeing as often there is no comparable service in their own country.

One such interview was with Tracy Swedlow of itvt.com. Tracy has covered interactive TV for many years and her newsletter is read by people working in the industry, across the world.

You can find the interview on itvt.com, or listen to it using the embedded player below. There's also a MP3 version for download.

Now, that was a bit longer than I expected!

Anyway, not something you can fix I know, but I need a moan. Raining here today - and interactive services lost on Freeview (from Winter Hill). I hope these reception issues are sorted with DSO - but I fear the space stolen for Freeview HD may make the situation even worse.

I think it would be better if the different programmes were on seperate channels instead of having to press the red button and select from there. The red button for going to different channels is non-standard, slow, I don't think the programmes are in the guides, and it goes to strange actual channel numbers, and on Freeview the picture is only a quarter of a screen size for News multiscreen.

Hello Sue. John's on holiday so I'll reply on his behalf. As the interview was done by and for another website, we can't publish a transcript.

Best people to ask would be over at http://itvt.com
