Yippee! Four years of the Frog!

I hope you're having a bit of a do in the office. After the programme. Or during, wo'evva.

    I like the card!

    Hello, Lady Sue.

Hoppy birthday Frog and froggers! Gosh what a lot's happened since that first posting ... the Song ... the rise and demise of the Froggers' Refuge ... invasion of the reindeer ... Blog Queen ... Frog Prince ... frogfests here there & nearly everywhere ... Diggles ... the cult of Hugh Sykes ... the insane beauty that is The Beach ...

Serious thought here: is it time for a bit of feedback and analysis of what is/isn't working? We've moved from random threads to a more structured Glass Box arrangement, with the odd random thread still present but no longer the strongest feature. Moderation has changed, not just from pre- to post- but in its style and implementation. The Furrowed Brow isn't the vibrant soap-box it used to be, although it's still a fascinating read for omnivorous Radio Fourphiles.

What thinkest the PM team. Are we up for a bit of stocktakery now we are four?

Fifi, excellent points! It would be very interesting to get feedback from the PM Team and fellow froggers.

A hobby horse: our repeated requests for the return of 'Recent Comments' or at least some reasoned argument why it was dispensed with. It was far and above the most efficient way of getting back into debates of interest, or keeping tabs on witty exchanges.

    Is there anybody there?

Fifi - The structured Glass Box arrangement has just about destroyed the Blog as an entertaining debating forum.

I can understand the PM Glass Box to garner feedback on PM - although why it can't be up when the programme is on is beyond me. But the AM Glass Box is just a vehicle for some people to continually bang on about their pet political prejudices. It is supposedly a vehicle for suggestions, prior to 11am, for inclusion in the PM programme. As a vehicle, it would fail its MOT.

In my opinion, debate was more varied and certainly more informed & entertaining when Eddie used to throw up random threads. A look at some of the stuff in 'archive' from a few years ago supports this, I think.

Happy Birthday, albeit a belated one.

Some very interesting points there from Fifi and The Intermittent horse.

I'm also baffled as to why the Glassbox is posted up so late.. all very strange

Horse, totally agree about the AM GB, though nikki noodle has (@10.39) done a sort of check-list of ideas that have been thrown up. It will be interesting to see whether any are taken on by the PM Team for the programme this evening. Also would be interesting to get a statistic on how many suggestions have been taken on and if there is a particular preferred type, since the implementation of the AM GB. Anyone?

There is a fundamental flaw in the concept of the AM GB which is that we listeners only hear "news" once it has been aired and, by comparison, the PM Team would be receiving hundreds of press releases and news "flashes" throughout the day, to which we are not necessarily privy (internet word of mouth notwithstanding), from which to choose. Hence the items that have already been aired on the 'Today' programme and dealt with throughout the day are pretty much "old hat" by 5pm.

It is admirable (and I'm grateful) that the PM Team have been kind enough to ask us what we'd like to hear and a great shame that opportunity has been overrun with, as you say "a vehicle for some people to continually bang on about their pet political prejudices" and general droning.

What do the PM Team think? Is it working for you? Are the suggestions pretty much what you'd expected or is it slightly disappointing?

    Is there anybody there? ;o)

I hope the Lady gets a response though as was the case with the Penguin I have my doubts - however I suppose we should remember that there may be other reasons for the editorial decision to post up the Glassbox so late.

I have noticed in the past, when it was up during the programme that some posters have just commented on what was being broadcast with remarks such as "Well said Eddie" - which on subsequent reading make no sense.

On balance though, I think it should certainly be up there at 5:00 PM.

Some very funny dialogue between Eddie and Amanda the day the talkback failed ;-) - and one of my favourite's the infamous train blogs...

    Those were the days

Re AM Glass box. This could be "closed to new comments" after the editorial team meet but of course then BBC will be accused of stifling debate. But the Furrowed brow was/is supposedly the place for these deeper debates. I never really look there any more.
