The Met office is so focussed on the South East of England that it forgets that the rest of us exist.
I would propose that the entire faculty be moved to Lerwick.
I think this would balance thier view.

Seeing as today was the 1st September and new car reg day, I spotted my first 59 reg on the motorway this evening (nice silver Audi, probably a company car, in case you're interesting).

Anyway, it got me thinking, something for the AM glass box sometime around Aug 2010.

What will the DVLA do when next September's reg comes round. It will work ok in March XX 10 XXX, but come September, what will they do? XX 510 XXX will be too long, and while XX 50 XXX would work that would run out in 2011. Will it be a 60 reg?

Frustrating to think about the way Alan Turing was treated. I think the massive stupidity of his accusers mirrors the vastness of his cleverness.

Lockerbie - Perhaps this point has already been made: I seem to remember that the US government strongly encouraged and, indeed, "bribed" the Northern Ireland people to accept the Good Friday agreement which led to the release of convicted muderers some of whom had only served a few months of their sentence. For many of the victims this was a very bitter pill to swallow. The hypocrisy of the Americans over the decision to release the Lockerbie bomber is staggering. I agree with both the Good Friday agreement and the release of the bomber while having doubts and concerns about some of the consequences. Perhaps this latest decision will lead to Libya paying compensation to IRA victims.
