1983

Eddie Mair | 10:17 UK time, Friday, 6 October 2006

We've noticed that BBC Parliament is reshowing the 1983 General Election night programme. Brian Hanrahan was just on from Blaenau Gwent. And today he's on The World at One.
I will keep you posted on how it goes. So far: Con 4, Lab 0.

Labour must win. I mean what has Maggie done to deserve a second term. I mean no-one will vote Tory because of the Falklands surely...

Would it be worth putting money on the result?

You say "we've noticed" about the 1983 election results being shown. This conjures up a picture of everyone in your office sitting round watching 23 yr old tv. Is this really cutting-edge news & politics? I find it faintly disturbing in the way it was also faintly disturbing, in a non-specific sort of way, to discover my anaesthetist ("Hi, my name's Dave") and attendant acolyes watching the overhead tv last time I went in for an operation. They were watching Casualty with great enthusiasm. Reluctantly tore themselves away just long enough to knock me out.
Somehow we lay people prefer to think that the experts actually "do" the stuff, rather than watch it on tv.
But don't let me hinder you in your work. Get back to that screen. Any idea who's winning?

Latest Treasury figures suggest that in 1983 'Dave' (sunshine) Cameron was seventeen years old.

    Eddie Mair was 38.

Annasee, does your anaesthetist sometimes call himself "David"? Doe she talk about sunshine a lot? Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Ho, ho, ho, I finally looked at the webcameron thing last night (having been prompted by the mentions on Mock the Week), what fun! (Both)

Shall I spoil it for you and tell you who wins?
