Lorraine Newman has confirmed that she will take on the role of EastEnders Executive Producer permanently.

Lorraine's risen up the ranks in EastEnders since she first joined as a Script Secretary. She had this to say:

"It is an absolute honour to be taking on the role of Executive Producer at EastEnders on a permanent basis. My passion for EastEnders was ignited during my first stint on the show as Script Secretary at the age of 19. And this passion has continued to grow ever since. I am looking forward to leading a talented creative team, cast and crew into 2013."

John Yorke, Controller of BBC Drama adds: “Over the last few months Lorraine Newman has steered the show through a period of considerable change, and she’s done an amazing job positioning the show for one of the most exciting autumns I can remember.

Starting as a script secretary she has risen through the ranks, finding herself as Series Producer and second in command for the last seven years.   With her depth of experience, her passion for the programme and her commitment to talent on-screen and off, she’s the perfect person to take EastEnders forward.”

Congratulations, Lorraine! Now who's intrigued by this mention of an exciting Autumn...

this exactly is the problem with EE, a car vandalisation that happened secretly was let out the following day whereas a crime as serious as heather`s murder is still concealed up till now, likewise phil and shirley`s theft of roxy`s money, all atrocities of yusuf did not come out until after his death, michael`s con on jean is only known to those who can cover his shame, kat alfie and jenien. anyway i hope we are not encouraging crime though

While i am not really bothered by this news i hope she hasnt axed my fav character (shirley) because of how she finds out about ben killing heather and i think the story was changed because bryan kirkwood said on the reveal show her reaction would be "explosive" but according to the papers it isn't going to be so LN must have scrapped BK's reveal and changed it. makes sense to her being offscreen for 6 weeks and just popping up randomly in a couple of episodes. i hope linda quit otherwise i think its a waste of huge potential

Sorry but I am getting really board with EE now. The story lines are just taking too long to come to conculsion and I have to agee with @gojosh

@Alicia_4... I too use the fast forward button.

Personally, I think you are basically running out of storylines so have to make the storylines you have drag on and on and on and on and on...

Get some dynamic back into the show and you may stop loosing your viewers.

I've not been too impressed with EE since Diederick Santer left in 2010
