EastEnders crowned Best Soap at British Soap Awards

Woop Woop! After a fantastic year, EastEnders came up trumps to win Best Soap at the annual British Soap Awards 2011 in Manchester on Saturday night.

As well as winning the ultimate glory a second year on the trot at the prestigious soap oscars, your favourite soap has clinched another trio of shiny gongs!

The wonderful Jessie Wallace beat off tough competition to be crowned with Best Actress for playing been-through-the-mill-and-back Kat Moon. The Vic landlady has had a gripping year, as she's struggled to deal with Tommy's loss... and getting him back.

On the glitzy night, Jessie Wallace had to grace the stage twice, as she picked up Best On-Screen Partnership with Shane Richie for their portrayal as loveable Kat and Alfie Moon.

And guess what folks? Let's hope that Scott Maslen (Jack Branning) had his acceptance speech prepared, as he took the top totty award! Yep, for a consecutive year Scott picked up the Sexiest Male gong. Ding. Dong.

Let's hope that the northern city has now recovered from the waft of hairspray and glow of gooorgeous tans, after hosting the awards for the first time in 12 years.

Thank you for all of your votes in these top-notch awards!

I have only been watching this show for about 9 months, and it is way behind what you Brits, I am really hooked on it, even though it comes on at 11:30 PM I look forward to watching every Sunday. It is somewhat difficult to understand some of the language. We are at the place on New Years where the kids van overturns, I guess someone will be dead.

Gotta love Easties [even if in NZ we are bout a year behind!] Love that Kat and Alfie are back, love the copious amounts of awards you guys won and totally deserved too! My fav soap of all time been watching for most of my life!

Yes have been watching Eastenders for 13 years now, since it came to Australia on Foxtel and Austar pay tv services and I dumped Home And Away and Neighbours to watch them as I enjoy them so much better. Since Kat first come on I love her so much as she reminds me of my younger days and then Stacey, diagonosed with bi -polar like myself makes it a great show as they are everyday people, not like some other shows that have your goody goody never do anything wrong, which is not normal, go Eastenders and CONGRATS!!!

Congratulations to EastEnders, and well deserved. That awkward moment when EastEnders beat Corrie on their home turf! Jessie Wallace has been outstanding during this controversial baby swap plot, and viewers have really felt Kat's pain and loss. I'm just so happy Kat and Alfie have baby Tommy back. Also "Best On-Screen Partnership" too - fantastic! I really think the "Sexiest Male" award should be re-named the "Scott Maslen award" - 3 years in a row now, right?!? The one award I'm disappointed with is Lindsey Coulson not winning "Best Dramatic Performance", she deserved this so much. Her portrayal of Carol finding out about Billie dying was OUTSTANDING.

I'm looking forward to watching these awards on ITV on Wednesday night, with a few cold beers and a few goodies! Well Done Easties!

Eastenders is the best, and the acting consistantly really good. I just love all the characters, and you do care what happens to them in the storylines. It's this that makes people tune in to watch. Eastenders is my "must-see" programme.

Congrats EE for winning best soap
Also congrats to Kat ak.ka Jessie Wallace for winning best Actress, well deserved and I'm glad her and Alfie won best partnership as they are teh best couple in Walford. I still think though that Alfie hsould of won best actor as he is so much better than Aaron form Emmerdale, who watches teh boring farm anyway.
I was disappointed that Corrie won 8 awards and EE won 4, well I guess it was a tough competition this year. I definately think that Carol should have won best dramatic performance and they should of won best storyline

Glad to hear about Eastenders win. Unfortunately, here in Orange County in California they finally took Eastenders off about three years ago. I loved watching it , even though we were years behind England. I manage to keep up with it somewhat thru friends that watch it in London. I really miss it.
