This is the last Quotes of the Week this year and, sadly, it will not be returning next season. Thanks for all your comments over the past nine years - I couldn't have done it without you. I'll be signing off with the traditional Chants of the Season next week.

And please keep sending your quotes, chants and stadium announcements to the usual email address for the time being, as I will be conveying them via the medium of Twitter from now on. So if you haven't done so already, sign up to my Twitter page and be prepared for a load of old nonsense.

This is devasting news that QOTW and ROTW are ending, they're literally the only reason I come to work!! The only others are Robbo and Dan Walkers Blogs.

Set up Mr Charles in his own little office or working from home with this being his sole job. Come on Beeb, I pay my licence fee for this and not the relentless drivel that is Eastenders.

From now on I suggest everyone ends every comment with either Save QOTW and ROTW or if they've ended, Bring Back QOTW and ROTW.

    1. CC is a gifted and very humourous writer, rahter than trying to come off as some footy oracle like many of his peers, his everyman real fan enthusiasm shines through... He is real. The BBC lack this grass roots honesty.

    2. Colin Murray, a man as funny as tooth ache, a man with little insight in to footy, a man who is in fairness... dreadful, is given stewardship of MOTD2, and i will bet he is being paid handsomely for it.

    3. Phil McNulty, now in all seriousness, i wont resort to personal insults, i dont know the guy, but i am yet to read one post defending him or his work, but i see hundreds every week condeming him...

    4. This is the 21st century, just today i have spoken with people in several different countries, submitted proposals all acorss the globe and even had a conference call with three different countries (UK, Franch and southafrica)... yet the BBC are unable to exchange data smoothly between Manchester and London...

    5. We all miss out on a great read...

Or whether it is, as I said before, just BBC gobblygook for when they don't have a real excuse for not allocating four hours for something that a good many people have written that they want maintained.

Perhaps if you defined "original" we might begin to understand the decision. Better yet, why don't the BBC canvas opinion before making horribly misjudged decisions?

"A lot of similar blogs on other websites". When has that stopped any industry such as motoring, of which I am part. There are probably thousands of websites related to new cars, so what?

"Not damaging the commercial market by dominating every section of it" WHAT? Is that arrogance, short-sightedness or a lack of effort displayed to replace you, seeing that you couldn't possibly do it remotely... Also, how does that affect news? Does the BBC not want to dominate that sector either?

How much money is it actually going to save. As a license fee payer, I think I am entitled to find out. I am sure, as I have a say in how the corporation is run – albeit tiny in the grand scheme of things – I could find alternatives of how to save a few quid here and there.

"Thirdly, the member of staff who produces those pieces will not be in his current role longer term." Do me a favour. You could still do it, and if you're not there, surely someone could integrate it into their given tasks.

    3) To surf the BBC Sports website specifically for QOTW

This is absolutely the only content I consume from the BBC and now it's been taken off whilst all the dross on TV continues. It fills me with absolute rage that Eastenders (or Corrie - whichever one the BBC airs) remains whilst proper human content is deprioritized. Get rid of that patronizing, inacurate and, frankly, stupid Peston by all means, but not QOTW.

I'm also left wondering why, in this modern era the BBC still feel that journalists, whose role in life is to prepare electronic media, feel that it's inappropriate form them to do so wherever they choose rather than forcing them to move to God's own country. Perhaps that's why the BBC is in the mess its in.

If, by commercial blogs (at tautology in my opinion), they're allowing you (CC) to set up independently and try and make some money out of it then I'm in favour. If not then is there any recourse I take in terms of formal complaint?

What you have to love about the BBC is, despite the overwhelming support for quotes of the week. Which is immensely enjoyable and far more interesting than their rather pathetic attempts at articles. No, despite all the people who want it, they decided to get rid come what may.

So yet another example of the BBC ignoring the will of the people? Are you labour in disguise?! Just do what we sodding tell you to do! How hard is it? And what other blogs are doing this successfully? And more to the point, who cares! People want to read this one clearly.

I mean really, how hard is it to collate quotes of the week with everyone contributing to them, all you have to do is scroll through the e-mails surely! Hardly going to take millions of pounds to support. And yet you pay the likes of Hansen and Lawro to talk utter rubbish that no one reads and no one wants. Although to be fair to Hansen, at least he was a top quality player so may have the odd insight.

I follow this section regularly from my home country. Though I can't enjoy any live matches, QOTW gives me a feel of the premier league atmosphere.
Its very unfortunate that BBC has decided to terminate this along with many other blogs. The reasons provided are mere laughable, maybe next time they will be honest with the reasons atleast!

Like others I have registered here to express my anger at the decision to scrap this feature. What has really annoyed me is that I tried to click on the link to the twitter account (against my better judgement) to find that it doesn't work. This is stupid - just Save QOTW!....and ROTW!.......Immediately.

I know I'm a little late on the boards, but I've been away, what an utter disappointment to find QOTW is to be no more, sort it out BBC. If Chris is not able then a relplacement MUST be found.

Absolute and utter travesty. Maybe someone ought to explain to BBC Sport about remote working, and how that works work stuff like blogs in particular.

I'd suggest that people who aren't happy about QOTW/ROTW going make a complaint. I'll be doing this tomorrow.

The more I think about this the more angry I get! I live in Yorkshire but work in London and rarely go there. The 'magic' of the telephone and that information super-highway thingy makes this possible! You can find 100's of millions out of your sports budget to cover F1 (which is not even a sport is it?). But not 1 ball of live cricket all year at any level and now no QOTW.

Think I am hammering this keyboard too hard, temper, temper!

On the skysports website, on Guillem Balague's team of the week, he says about Pedro:

"Cool in front of goal, his 12 goals this season - seven with the right foot and six with his left - illustrate his wonderful goalscoring technique".

One presumes then that he scored one goal with a hop-kick of some sort!
