Justin's House

Catherine, Cbeebies Team. | 16:03 UK time, Friday, 7 October 2011

Justin's House, CBeebies brand new comedy starring Justin Fletcher is finally here! We caught up with the show's two runners, Beth and Elliot to find out what it's been like working on the first ever CBeebies show to be filmed in front of a live studio audience...

So what does being a runner on Justin's House involve?

B: Basically, being a runner involves assisting the production team however we're needed.

E: That can be anything from general fetching and carrying, to sending CDs and lyric sheets to the local schools involved so that they can learn the songs for the show. We're also on 'Little Monster Duty' every other week meaning I get to take part in the show and help our puppeteer, Kat operate Little Monster, who pops up all over the place in Justin's House causing trouble.

What's Justin's House all about?

B: Justin’s House is a slapstick, pantomime style comedy, and probably the closest thing CBeebies has to a sitcom! It's filmed in front of a live audience of 150 children which is a new experience for all of us...

E: In the first episode Justin (messy, prone to slapstick accidents) moves into his new house where he meets Robert, his extremely tidy live-in robot helper, and Little Monster, who the kids go crazy for - especially when she's being chased around the set by Justin and Robert! Every episode Dee Livery, (the delivery lady) comes to deliver the 'Justin Times', Justin's own personal newspaper. It tells him what's happening in Justin Town that day or which special guest is coming to visit - each episode it's a different CBeebies star, prepare yourself for some very funny cameos..

B: Throughout the rest of the series we see them play games, sing songs, cause chaos and throw a few custard pies along the way. .

What's an average day like for you in the studio?

B: An average day in the studio is very busy but great fun. In the morning we rehearse both shows with the cameras for the first time, which is amazing considering that only gives one morning to rehearse both episodes with actors and the camera crew together. We get the audience in and seated (no mean feat with 150 3-5 year olds!) then the filming begins. During the week our researchers Anna and Ellie visit them at school to teach them the songs for each episode so on the day the whole audience can sing along and get really involved.

E: It still really amazes me how much impact the live audience has on the show as their laughter and reaction to what they're seeing on stage really breathes new life into the shows that we've been rehearsing all week.

Beth and Elliot

Do you have a favourite episode?

B: My favourite episode is called ‘The Tidy Prize’, where Chris Jarvis visits to show off about the Tidy Prize he has won for being the Tidiest person in Justin Town. Robert the Robot loves tidying, and is put out by Chris’ Tidy Prize and his top-of-the-range feather duster 'The Featherard 500'. Chris tries to teach Robert and Justin how to be as tidy but, they quickly realise that being tidy is actually really boring and get Little Monster on the case to trick Chris into getting really messy!

E: I really enjoyed 'Get Fit Justin', where Justin, spurred on by Robert and Katie from 'I Can Cook', decides it's time for a healthier lifestyle. There's a sequence where Justin runs to the shops to pick up salad ingredients only to come back each time to discover that they were already in the house. That whole scene really brought home what a funny guy Justin is and his wheezing and panting to the various camera positions showed you just how much stuff he has to remember in a scene.

What have you most enjoyed about working on Justin's house so far?

B: I think helping Kat do Little Monster in the first episode is still my favourite moment of the series. This one of my first jobs in Children’s TV, so it was really warming to be able to see how much the audience enjoyed the show and to hear them go mad for Justin and Little Monster.

E: The evening before we filmed the 'custard' episode with Auntie Justina, the cast and crew of the show gathered in the loading bay of the studio to watch Justin practice the show's end scene. This involved him placing a custard-filled bowler hat on his head that projected a stream of custard into the air. I remember standing watching and thinking that a couple of months before that moment I was working behind a bar and now I'm involved in something where I get to watch Mr. Tumble shoot custard from his head! It was a surreal but very enjoyable moment.

Hello I am trying to find out if tickets are available for children to join the audience when this programme is filmed and where it is filmed. If not is there any plans to make a 'theatre' type show and travel around. My daughter loves this programme and the others that Justin is in and it would be really good to see a live show? Thanks

My daughter Jasmine has just turned 7 she absolutely loves Justin and Justins House! Could you possibly tell me how the audience for the live shows are picked if there is a link or an address to apply.
She has always been an avid Justin fan from when she was tiny, if she could apply for the live show would absolutely make all her Christmas's come at once.
    Kind Regards

  • Comment number 6.

Hello, thanks for all the lovely comments, we're really glad to hear you're all enjoying the show. The audiences for Justin's house are made up from schools, nurseries and children's organisations in the local area. Tickets for this series have already been allocated, however, if you live within a 20 km radius of Salford quays, then you can email cbeebies@bbc.co.uk (put Justin's House Audience in the subject line) to be added to the list of organisations who would like to be included in future productions.

  • Comment number 7.

Hi my daughter is 6 years of age and has Down's Syndrome, she adores Justin Fletcher in Something Special. She is watching Justin's House 24/7 at the moment and I would love her to visit Justin's house and take part in the audience, she would be so excited and seeing her face light up would be so wonderful. How can I make this happen?

  • Comment number 11.

Hi, will Justin's house be going on tour around the country? Great show for all ages. Thanks

  • Comment number 12.

I'm another mum with girls so eager to participate in the audience. Oh please widen your acceptance of those allowed to go along to the shows. Or, tour please!!

  • Comment number 13.

Like all the other parents posting here, my kids - aged 4 and 6 - just LOVE Justin's House and desperately want to be in the audience ! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE open up the audience participation to allow parents to buy tickets to attend, even if it's not all the shows ! After all, the BBC is supposed to be saving money so here's a way that we would willingly contribute more to the BBC coffers !!!

  • Comment number 14.

I agree with all the positive comments and I would love to take my 3 year old to Justins House, she would love it. Any ideas how we can get ticket.

  • Comment number 21.

Hi, my 3 year old daughter loves the programme and I wanted to know if anyone knows how to apply to go on the live show??

  • Comment number 22.

I must disagree with some of the above, my kids have struggled with this show. They sit their in stoney silence, with only the singing that saves it. Compared with other Kustin programmes i feel this is poor. Clearly Justin is a huge talent and our 2 love him, we just feel this format struggles like a badly made panto. Sorry if im a lone voice but its good to hear positive and negative views

  • Comment number 23.

my daughter would really like to sit in the audience for justin house any idea how
    thanks

  • Comment number 24.

hi my kids have also loved justtins house and i'd reallyreally like for them to go there an enjoy the show live! how do we get in???

  • Comment number 25.

salford quays, manchester, is where the show is recorded and only schools/nurseries can apply via this site..................shame! i live sussex and this is soooo heart breakingly far!

  • Comment number 26.

What a shame that this is exclusive to the Manchester/Lancashire region : - ( .As someone suggested earlier, surely these recordings could charge a nominal fee so that individuals too could attend. Can the powers that be not appreciate that some of us are prepared to financially contribute to the BBC in addition to our licence fee?

  • Comment number 27.

My son is 4 and loves justins house, he would love to be in the audience with his friends. I am very disapointed that you only open tickets to nurseries and schools within 20 miles of salford. We live in essex (200 miles away) and would be more than happy to travel to be in the audience but this doesnt look as if its possible with the bbc rules. not very happy about this. What shows are in the essex and london area that our kids down this way can have the opportunity to participate in???

  • Comment number 28.

My daughters 7 and 3 one of whom is disabled both love everything justin, as you are having such positive feed back can you let us know if a certain number of parents contact you will you consider opening audience seats to them or is there anyone else to contact regarding this request. Thanks.

  • Comment number 29.

how do you get onto the show.........and you have to do a tour its a must !!!!!!! its either on iplayer on my computer or on the tv. Justin is fab.

  • Comment number 30.

my son who is 3 and my daughter who is 8 would love to go and see justins house they both are both disabled with learning promblems and would love to seat in the live audience can u please tell me how to go about it please.

  • Comment number 31.

My children also love Justin's House.
I just want to add my voice to the calls for a broader allocation of tickets.

  • Comment number 32.

My two grandchildren would love to join the audience for Justin's House. I think Justin could easily fill a larger venue for a special show - maybe at the Lyric theatre across the canal?

  • Comment number 33.

My 3 year old absolutely loves this new programme and has watched each episode so far over 20 times. When he wakes up in the morning he just wants to watch it over and over again. Justin Fletcher is a genius and is so talented. Thank you for making Justin's house, it is brilliant and makes so many children so happy. A tour would be amazing. My son keeps asking if he can go to Justin's house with the other children on tv, it's difficult to say no. it would be good to open up the audience area to Sussex, we would travel anywhere to see the show. looking forward to the weekend to see the next 2 episodes!

  • Comment number 34.

How am I going to break the news to my daughter that daddy won't be able to take her to Justin's House. We live in Portsmouth.

Justin we would love to see you.

  • Comment number 35.

Hi, I just wondered why only children from the local area are allowed to be in the audience of Justins house from looking on here there are loads of children that want to be considered.Normally the bbc do a ballot for anyone that applies. It hardly seems fair to be penialised for not living near Salford if you are prepared to travel.

  • Comment number 36.

Are there any plans to take Justins house around the theatres? My little girl would LOVE to come along. It would be perfect, and mummy could use it as an excuse to look round the shops too :-)

  • Comment number 37.

Please please please who has the key to justins house?? Can we apply to be in the audience please xxxxxxxx

  • Comment number 38.

In reply to all the southern based posters on here - It's about time that things like this were based in the north. So many opportunities like this are usually London/South centric, so it makes a refreshing change for people north of Watford to be considered for once. Great show by the way. My two love it, and hopefully already have some tickets in the bag.....

  • Comment number 39.

please please please can anyone tell me how to get tickets for justins house for my 4yr old grandson he loves everthing about justin

  • Comment number 40.

Congratulations to Justin and the whole team on the new series!
I also have a daughter who's hero is, of course, Justin and live in the south of England.
I think we have been very lucky with opportunities to see Justin. Twice at Paultons Park and at Reading in panto.
Good luck to the people in the North to have their opportunity to see Justin too!
    Come on...we have to share!!!

  • Comment number 41.

Hello I have a 4 year old who is Mad on Justin's house is there any way I could purchase tickets for a show and anywhere that has started to sell any Justins house merchandise? Thank you

  • Comment number 42.

my 3 year old loves this programme, how do i apply for tickets??

  • Comment number 43.

A tour would be a great idea - hopefully the BBC will consider it!

@dfens73......no need to gloat love - don't give us Northerners a bad name.

  • Comment number 44.

hi my children are mad on justin. as a amazing present i would love to organise for them and their school to be in the justin audienec. if you could plase let me know how i can do think. many thanks for taking the time to read this

  • Comment number 45.

help trying to find out info on tickets for justins house does anyone know ?
was reading up and some say its just for schools is this true ?

  • Comment number 46.

OMG, I can't believe how many requests there are for tickets to see Justins house live. This show is really special to my my 4 year old daughter too & I know she would be extatic if she could be part of the audience. Surely something can be done to see that these kids get to see the show live.

  • Comment number 47.

My 4 yr old discovered Justin's House 3 weeks ago and can't get enough of it. We live just under 40 miles away from Salford and would love to be part of the audience. Please let me know if you decide to extend the boundary wider than the 20km radius of Salford. I thought when the BBC moved to Manchester all of us northerners would have a chance to participate. It's not fair to limit it to Manchester only. What about Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle and Liverpool? There are plenty of kids here too you know!

  • Comment number 48.

first off i have three kids aged 2 3 and 5 all three are desperate to be on the show i think the fact that they pick children from schools/nurserys locally is fair, all the people asking to buy/donate for tickets [edited] can you imagine 150 kids with all of the parents would be a nightmare.

  • Comment number 49.

Just to add mine to the many, many similar comments. We have children who would most definitely love to go to Justin's house... whilst it's not too far to travel, we are most definitely outside the 20 mile radius. In the theme tune Justin sings that "everyone is welcome here in Justin's house", perhaps "everyone is welcome here in Justin's house, if you live within 20 miles of Salford" just didn't fit into the tune??!! Very much looking forward to hearing about a wider acceptance for audience participation or a tour. It's a fantastic show.

  • Comment number 50.

My Children love Justin and his new home....we have even spent time at weekends down at media city just so they can see the Cbeebies building in the hope they see Justin or any of the other presenters. Please can you let me know how to get tickets to be in the audience and finally get beyond the barrier! They would just love it!!

Hi I have a girl of three and a half who loves Justin's house and watches it every weekend. It's all she talks about and I'm just wondered how i could get her a ticket for a live show. Also are there any other events she may like to go to.

  • Comment number 55.

Due to the fact that normal families are unable to gain tickets for this fantastic show (well done again Justin, my children absolutely love your shows!!!!), would the producers consider doing a countrywide roadshow that could involve schools, nurseries and other children organisations from other counties within the UK? These roadshows could also be filmed live.

Dear Ceebbies, Congratulations!!! On the huge success of Justin's House. My 4 Year old absolutely loves the show; she sings along and follows Justin's instructions in our lounge. We have tried explaining to her that it is not possible to go Justin's House. However it is her wish that we visit him on her Birthday!

I would agree with all the comments above and would like to suggest that BBC should do a similar show like "in the night Garden" in O2 Arena and off course different location in England. They would be a big hit as it would be by Public Demand. I hope BBC will re-consider its current policies on selection of audience in respect of this show.

    Thank you

My son too likes Justins house we had to reqind it 6 times the other day on the Sky+ box.

However I am very dissapointed that tickets are only available to people within a 20km area of Salford Quay. I live in Cambridge and would love to be able to get tickets for Justins House and would be happy to make that journey as Conors joy at seeing the show would be very much worth it.

I would even make this journey if I had to pay for the tickets.

    Many thanks

    Ali

My children who are 3 and 5 years old also really love Justin's House. They sing and dance along in my lounge. I am also calling for a broader allocation of tickets.

  • Comment number 66.

How funny to see this programme is having the same effect on other children too. I have never seen my daughter laugh so histerically to ANYTHING like this before, she saw it at first on the cbeebies website and just keeps watching it and cracking up, much to the bemusement of me!!! she's going to be 4 in Jan...I must admit my search was 'how to get tickets' but fair doos on the answer to that...but bring on the tour hey...looks like it will be a sell out!! good one.

  • Comment number 67.

Hi, my 2 kids (4 & 2) absolutely love Justin and all his shows, but in particular look forward to Justin's house on a weekend, singing along and joining in any dances... they would love tickets to see this if they go on tour or are ever released to the general public (by the way, some of us do live further north than Manchester but dont' appear to exist when it comes to television shows, etc)

Hello please can you tell me how we go about being in the audience of Justin's house because my foster son David loves your show, he is 4.9yrs but is a wheel chair user and has brain damage but he really gets excited when your show comes on television, he joins in with everything, singing, clapping, shouting ect..
We would love for David to be in the audience. His 5th birthday is on 03/03/12 and it would be a great treat for him.
Please let us know how we can get tickets.
    Regards
    Nina (Permanent foster mum).

  • Comment number 71.

Yes please please take this show on tour or allow wider access. My 6 year old daughter is simply besotted with the show and its characters. She has drawn a picture to send in; it would be noce to have some sort of address to where the children could at least correspond and send their outpourings of admiration and excitement and hopefully get some sort of reply even or some sort of recognition. like a Justins friends wall where their drawings could be displayed or whatever!

  • Comment number 72.

Hi i live about a 5 hour journey away but my little girl loves Justin's house. Id be more than willing to travel to distance. Please let me no if there is any way of getting her in the audience please. Thanks

  • Comment number 73.

Oh. I thought I'd be unlikely to be the first parent to express a similar opinion. I guess comment #6 is the final word:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/cbeebiesgrownups/2011/10/justins-house.shtml?postId=110511223#comment_110511223

Is there anybody the BBC could hook up with to make the show into a franchise of sorts? I guess Justin himself can't come to all our towns, and the small audience size is probably a key part of the experience. If a BBC-endorsed tour (or tours) brought Justin's house to Oxford, I wouldn't miss the opportunity to bring my kids - I think they'd want to come every day!

  • Comment number 74.

So the BBC pays a fortune to move some of its productions into more areas of the UK, but still only chooses to include city kids from the studio area! It's great that Salford kids can now be involved in BBC productions not just the usual London co-hort but really! Do the BBC not think that that others from the wider area would like the opportunity to involve their kids too? Wake up, there is life outside major cities BBC!

  • Comment number 75.

Hello, I have a 5 years special boy that love Justin, please someone know How can I get tickets for Justin House??? thanks

  • Comment number 76.

My son finds Justin's House much too raucous and frightening. He was looking forward to watching it because he loves Something Special, but each time Justin's House has come on my son asks for it to be switched off after a few minutes.

The noise levels and the shouting along to songs rather than singing are just painful to my ears, and my son is clearly distressed by it.

Justin is talented, but his talents could be used in a more positive and inclusive way - Justin's House excludes any children who are not noisy in themselves and does nothing to build a child's confidence.

It must be very hard to make a panto format work on television and I don't think Justin's House works. I'm not surprised that the children who do watch this programme want to go to the live performance so that they can get more out of the experience, as the televised experience is so clearly lacking.

  • Comment number 79.

I, like all the other comments here would love Justins house to go on tour, its a shame that only local children to Salford are allowed to go to the recordings. Please please, please do it, you will have lots of people wanting to go. Its brilliant, everything that Justin Fletcher does is great. In fact both my children aged 2 and 5 only watch Cbeebies and he is one of their favourites!! Keep up the good work x

  • Comment number 80.

  • Comment number 81.

    Hello

Like many others on here, is there any chance of geting tickets for my daughter to participate in Justins House.

My daughters school would dearly love to paticipate also.

    Best wishes

    Ellicia

  • Comment number 82.

Hi how we get the ticket to participate this show? My daughter is really love this show

  • Comment number 83.

It would appear that just as many adults want to be in Justin's audience as there are children!

My 6 year old daughter grew up learning Makaton with Justin and Mr Tumble as part of her speech therapy. Since then she, and her 4 year old brother, are still big fans of Justin and his Gigglebiz and Justin's house.

The parents call for the BBC to take this show on the road is an excellent idea! So come on BBC!!! Think of the children... Justin Fletcher has once again excelled himself in providing fun and laughter to the future generation of BBC viewers.

Looking forward to seeing those tour dates...

  • Comment number 84.

Like Many other parents I would love to take my son to see Justin. He watches Justins House and just laughs through the entire program. Come on Auntie Beeb, take the show on the road so that lots more children can experience the show live!

  • Comment number 85.

I would just like to know why the spaces for the audience members are only allocated to schools etc and also why only within the 20km distance? My daughter
    loves this programme. Thanks Amanda

  • Comment number 86.

Both my children love Justins House and bounce around the living room as if they were there! I think a roadshow would be fantastic and would definatley take my two, i know others that would go too

  • Comment number 87.

I think your theme tune of "everybodys welcome here in justins house" is a little misleading!!!!

  • Comment number 88.

Justin's house is big in Ireland too, An Irish tour would be great

  • Comment number 89.

You have 88 comments on here asking for kids to be in the audience of justins house and I am making it 89! PLEASE respond and do a tour or something! your viewers are desperate to be part of it! PLEASE!!!

  • Comment number 90.

I have got to say that i agree with most of the above. My two have grown up watching justin (giglebiz, sarah and justin?, etc). It is a shame that it is not open to the public, just the schools. If this ever changes please let me know as you would make two kids V. happy

  • Comment number 91.

There are 90 posts on here, most of which are asking about tickets for Justin's house. How many replies from the bbc? 1!!! My kids love this and it would be great to take them to see it, bbc would make a lot money and a lot of kids very happy if they released tickets for this show.

  • Comment number 92.

Please can anyone tell me where I can buy tickets for my son for Justin's House?

  • Comment number 93.

I have to agree with everyone, there is a massive demand for Justin's house to tour, BBC there is money to be made from this! Justins house has a huge audience and is very popular everywhere. I think it would sell out! My dauhter is 5 and I know that she's always asking to go in the audience and so are her friends.
Please BBC bring the audience there tour for 2012!

    hiya,

im another mother whose 2 children aged 5 and 3 are desperate to go to justins house. i can see from the 90+ other comments that this is a popular request so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give our children a chance. I am willing to travel any distance so my children can be on the show but need the chance to but tickets.
Congrats on this great show and the requests to partipate mush show you how popular the show and especially Justin is.
    Thanks, louise.

Sorry to be a bore but need to add to the tsunami of comments that you should open up the show for applications from individual kids from beyond the 20km. My 4 year old is OBSESSED and spends a huge amount of time pretending to be Justin. He knows all the songs and catchphrases. It would mean the world to him, and thousands like him, to come along and be in the show. COME ON GUYS - SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY!!!!!
