CBeebies Blog: Justin Fletcher

Justin Justin | 14:39 UK time, Tuesday, 18 January 2011

Hi everyone it's Justin here!
I am very excited to announce that Gigglebiz series 2 started yesterday on Cbeebies!
Watch out for our fantastic line-up of new characters including Opera Oliver, Rod and Annette, Keith Fit and Doctor Doctor.  It's so thrilling to see the programme we have  been working on for months, finally go out on Cbeebies.

We always have a wonderful time filming the show. It's extremely hard work but we have an incredible cast and crew to produce this great programme.
I started coming up with the Gigglebiz characters over 15 years ago and every time a new one pops into my head I write it down on a little pad that I carry.
There's nothing better than seeing a character that started out as just a few scribbles, finally come to life on screen.
Hope you enjoy the new series as much as we did filming it.

I'm not sure that anyone will read this and it's general not specific but not sure where to post it. Briefly I'm a Grandmother of a 4 year old boy (living in England) and I live in Spain. I speak to him every week on skype and today he was playing computer games which seemed to be too old for him and frustrating and upsetting. I therefore tried to look at CBeebies but can't see content as I'm in Spain, what I can see of it looks very good. Any chance of setting up something -not for general consumption- but for people in my situation to be involved with. I'm concerned that my grandson will become addicted to computer games and miss out on real life, please make sure that all your programmes encourage children to participate in real life. Nearly 50 years ago I had a wonderful English teacher who sent us out into the garden to sit on a summer's evening and smell the flowers then write a poem-don't let such simple techniques be forgotten. Please watch the rate at which things appear ,it increases all the time (brought up watching Bill and Ben)this is not good for young children, I'm watching my grandson with his frustration, then the conflict with his father. Please make sure that all CBeebies programmes are educationally sound , not just content wise but in terms of timing---good luck with it all and keep our children educated not addicted !

    Hi Linda

Thanks for your post. You’ve mentioned your English teacher who used to send your class into the garden for inspiration. I hope they would have approved of Mr Bloom’s Nursery which brings the joys of the garden to our next generation and starts on CBeebies today.

I know myself as a parent, computer games can get pretty addictive for children. I’d be interested to read from other bloggers how they cope with this and how many parents ration time.

At CBeebies we try and create fun online content that young children can succeed at rather than find frustrating. Perhaps your grandson will enjoy the new Mr Bloom’s Nursery games. You won’t find space invaders here but simple nurturing activities, for instance “NAME OF GAME” where you have to collect water to give to the vegetables.

Our online teams take educational advice throughout the build process so that while grandsons like your own are having lots of fun they should also be gathering skills without even realising it!

Thanks for your best wishes from Spain.

My 2 year old is a bit behind on his speech, but since hes been watching it, he has been using a lot of sign language AND yells out Mr Tumble as well as starting to sing along to some of the songs.

    Thanks Justin.

My sin Thomas is 5 on the 28th March and he has special needs, learning difficulties and a syndrome called DI GEORGE SYNDROME its a genetic syndrome which i have got aswell but not known i had it till i was tested when my son was diagnosed. My health problems are ok but Thomas has only one kidney and the other one is slighlty damaged and he has other health problems. He uses Makaton and he just adores Justin and Mr. Tumble he even has to take the dvd to school and he watches the dvd as often as he can and as soon as he wakes up. We think he has slight autisim but waiting to be tested.

Justin.. I was just watching Gigglebiz with my son, this and 'Something Special' being favourites in this Belfast household.. however I have say I was disappointed when my son tells me that the teacher in the classroom was wrong (the pirate sketch on Gigglebiz today with the character looking for 'Whitebeard'). I ask why, and we rewind it back, to see the teacher declare that the map is of the United Kingdom (Kingdom eh?? Argh har!).. of course, the map wasn't of the UK, as Northern Ireland was not on it. It was, in fact, GB.
Simple things.. but if my 4 year old knows the difference...

I don't know many kids who understand the Arthur Sleep/ Ann Teak type humour, but I have a bit of a giggle. Haha.
My daughter loves your programmes, and my only complaint is that Something Special (now, I know it's designed for kids with special needs) needs to incorprate "regular" kids into the programming, as kids really shouldn't be taught that people are "different". I'm a strong believer that kids would never see a difference if taught early on that everyone is special, regardless of how they look/behaviour.
I hope I made sense and didnt offend anyone. :)
