Oh very nice. Very funny. And the lute is indeed the coolest of all medieval stringed instruments.

  • Comment number 2.

Fantastic episode. loved Adam - never really liked him before so superb. Going to watch clip now!

  • Comment number 3.

So loving the Lute!! Hope thats in next weeks episode!

  • Comment number 4.

Hal imparting his centuries of wisdom, priceless

  • Comment number 5.

I can do more press ups than Adam!! *runs round room squealing in delight*

  • Comment number 6.

I just love Adams character please Lord Toby please can we see him again. Brilliant bit of comedy lovely.

  • Comment number 7.

Ok now we have to see Hal do two things play the lute and drink Kia-Ora :)

  • Comment number 8.

    Haha

  • Comment number 9.

The problem we have with Adam, is that the actor is getting older... But Adam isn't I guess thats why we should kill off Vampires on the show, and keep the Wolves! Woof!

  • Comment number 10.

didn't enjoy this episode that much... acting still brilliant though from our actors :D ! feel like we're watching Hal fall apart piece by piece though !!!

Has anyone noticed the burn on Hal's arm get worse? is it spreading ? he's going to have to tell the house hold soon though

  • Comment number 11.

@damienmolony: "Press-ups didn't make the cut... Eek, Maybe not as buff as I thought..." Ha ha!

  • Comment number 12.

    Link search!

  • Comment number 13.

Show me the lute - fantastic!

  • Comment number 14.

What a brilliant Ep! Oh my! I JUMPED out of my skin when Hal stabbed Tom! She was scary, that teacher! Craig Roberts was really good!

  • Comment number 15.

Why do they keep the best scenes out of the programme that was so funny.

  • Comment number 16.

I would like to know what happened to the other characters from the trinity in becoming human. Please.

  • Comment number 17.

I think it's great that we see a different side of Adam's character this episode. Last time his immaturity and innuendos seemed to make him a bit one-dimensional (in my opinion anyway) because he wasn't taking anything seriously. I like that he's grown up a lot in the meantime (mentally I mean, not physically obviously!). It's made me grow to like him much more as a character, and I like that he really wants to stay off blood for good now. And that through-the-door scene was oddly moving...

Just got to the hotel time for i-player then catching up with blog till then

  • Comment number 20.

Hey all! Well that was *interesting* right?

Trending on twitter tonight after a couple of weeks not.. lots and lots of chatter and new fans loving the new cast. It bodes well for the future me thinks.....

@blackdog23 These scenes are made specifically for you on the blog. They are not cut out of the series, they are totally separate additional scenes. Glad you like them! They're yours!

'The lute is the coolest of all medieval stringed instruments.'

  • Comment number 21.

@10 i agree the episode was disapointing to me :( and i didnt want adam to leave with that girl because i was really hope for a season 2 of becoming human but that dosent look like that is going to happen now!!

  • Comment number 22.

Ewan you called it right sucubus woooh.

I am actually quite worried for Hal. He thinks he is safe because he had a dead body in his way and didnt get a reaction. Next episode he is going to get living breathing blood running temptation in his way and find out just how weak his resolve is. Oh dear it could all end in tears.

Annie enjoyed killing Kirby? FW has no hope if she comes in the house and Annie realises what she is up to.

  • Comment number 23.

Hal's press up scene was cut :O Do you have access to it Rebecca? Or will you be sneaking into the production office to find the cut scenes like they did for the CCTV footage in BcH? ;)

  • Comment number 24.

Ewan - cooooeee - you were correct! As if there was any doubt! Well done, again!

  • Comment number 25.

Well done Ewan! You got our new supernatural right and not a mermaid or troll in sight.

  • Comment number 26.

Thanks Ewan for the link! Cursing Adobe and Apple every time for having that little falling out that means Flash doesn't work on iPhone.

So, crucifixes don't affect Old Ones. Or did everyone else already know that? Annie getting addicted to killing. Hal killing Tom - I really believed that for a few minutes.

Why was Yvonne in Hal's dream telling him to kill Eve? Surely that must be his subconscious talking.

  • Comment number 27.

Annie's reaction to killing Kirby is very different from how she felt when she killed Cooper.

  • Comment number 28.

    o... Hal doesn't sing hey? :-p

Cutler's thread this episode really stole the show for me. it was a great scene in the hotel room. Really wanted him to still be there when Annie & Hal got there.

As for the goings on IN the house, it felt too close in concept and tone to last week. Someone coming in and manipulating the three leads, albeit by accident.

Adam was ok, it got a bit too sappy and cliched at the end though. I don't feel the succabus story added anything to the series really.

Hal feels very underused and we at ep5 now.

  • Comment number 29.

    @ewan
    congratulations

For those who wonder why a 500ys old vamp would enjoy playig the lute, do not forget, no telly, no movie, no radio, your voice and your musical instrument skills are the nearest you'll ever get in media entertainment
as for warriors, soldiers playing the lute being unrealistic

I take leave to remind you that the warrior king buried in Sutton Ho and these peeps were from the Dark Ages where your life depended on how good you were as a swordsman and we do not impy the adam way
this warrior was buried with a lute

so well done, TW, Saint very much impressed by the historical detail

  • Comment number 30.

Marie. Maybe Future Womans' auto suggestion works for longer than that moment from the second episode with Hal over Eves' crib? Maybe the suggestion goes alot deeper and only sleeping Hal is still aware of it

  • Comment number 31.

27 - Isn't half - seems she'd actually quite like to do it again. There may be trouble ahead...............

  • Comment number 32.

Ewan, you totally called it regarding the new monster, well done! :)

I enjoyed the episode and Adam did make me laugh.

Hal telling Annie that crucifixes don't affect old ones wasn't all that much of a shock to be honest, he's an old one, Wyndam managed to get into HH without an invite so i assumed the lack of a reaction to a cross is also in the Old One's Job Description. So by that assumption we now know that Cutler isn't an OO. I thought his reaction to the crucifix was a tad theatrical, i was expecting him to straighten up, unaffected, smile and say 'gotcha' to Pete.

Selina Griffiths was very good too though i was distracted by how much she sounds like her mother (Annette Crosbie from One Foot in the Grave incase you didn't know)

Cutler continues to intrigue me that naughty naughty vampire.

  • Comment number 33.

Oh Well done Ewan! Glad you managed to see it in time!

  • Comment number 34.

    @sea

    yes
    miffed
no mermaid, no troll, no mummy

  • Comment number 35.

But Sasha - that was our wish for the much maligned Nina as I recall. No one had thought it would happen to Annie.
You baking those creme egg cupcakes?

  • Comment number 36.

34 - Aww Saint - I thought it was just fab the way it was. Ewan called it, after all!

  • Comment number 37.

Here's me being a bit obsessive. But if you listen to how Yvonne says 'do it, do it...' etc it sounds like the same stresses and intonations as when FW says it in Ep2. So that command is still floating around his subconcious even though he didn't actually see her.

  • Comment number 38.

I just posted this in the last thread but bringing it over here as the same topic is under discussion - Why has Hal never mentioned the fact that OOs aren't affected by crucifixes before considering they are an important part of Eve's 'protection'? I had been wondering how he was able to pick her up from the cot without being affected and also how come ever watchful surrogate mum Annie hadn't noticed, but just assumed it must be something to do with the not drinking blood making him a bit more human or something

  • Comment number 39.

    We were close with mermaid!

I'm still holding out for that troll - if the word troll is even mentioned....

  • Comment number 40.

im just loving all the episode's so far :)

    poor Hal :/

  • Comment number 41.

Hal doing embroidery!!:D as a textiles student I so want to see him sitting on the sofa doing some needlework!!

I'm glad Annie is finally getting a bit angry, she needs to be round HH.

Cutlers plan is coming together, and I agree with the people who have said they hoped he was still in that room when Annie and Hal got there. Can't wait to see how they react when they meet, but I guess that is being saved for later eps.

Also Hal's dream woman is a brunette with long wavy hair and a white dress is she? *Eyes up long white dress in wardrobe*

  • Comment number 42.

I am so green with envy right now. I don't want Hal and Annie to have chemistry and a girl on tumblr met Damien yesterday. I want Annie to hang out with other ghosts and get a ghost boyfriend. That would be a twist, no?

    sigh.

  • Comment number 43.

    and vampires do dream

    now that is interesting
they dream even if they do not breathe

poor Tom, Tom and his swimming pool in the back garden
somehow, I think Tom has not mentionned this fact to Cutler

and we all knew the journalist was speaking too much

  • Comment number 44.

Maybe we could start a list of things that don't effect the OO. I do love a lisssst

  • Comment number 45.

35 - Hiya Sea. Not sure what I've said about Nina/Annie -point me in the direction of my blog so I can see how much of a twit I am. Thanks.

And no - safer to buy them in I think :-)

  • Comment number 46.

@37 Yes! i thought that too it sounded so much like it i actually thought FW was on the telly because i looked away for a second

@32 I was expecting the same, it reminded me of something..the backing off and hissing but i can't remember what it is

I'm sort of disappointed by Annie enjoying killing Kirby. She's supposed to be the pure one I dont want her becoming polluted

  • Comment number 47.

@32 Did Wyndham get in without an invite? I don't remember. Pretty sure Hal needed one in episode 2 or have I misremembered that too?

I also totally thought Cutler was faking his reaction to the crucifix and kept expecting him to say gotcha.. He must have been at least exaggerating, clearly he still had enough power left to overpower the journalist and use Hal's escape plan!

Does anyone else think Hal could be Cutler's maker?

  • Comment number 48.

@44. I love lists too, can we colour code it and everything? *grabs highlighters and grins manically*

  • Comment number 49.

45 You hadn't said anything daft at all! Just about Annie enjoying killing.
That's me done for tonight. See ya!

  • Comment number 50.

So, Hal can sing. Does that mean we'll hear his rendition of 'New York' in about......25 years?

sasha, from previous blog. Yep, full moon 8th of March!

I've not been around much, having internet issues!

  • Comment number 51.

    @nerdy

The succubus impersonates what the man wants or cherishes as ideal> Tom's ideal girl is a barrister , do not forget the Kitby episode, waiting to see the labrador>>> and A girl/woman with long black hair and a dress fitting the Regency, oops Russian Empire Style, high waist etc
Tom wants a lawyer in his outlaw life
Hal dreams of a lady who would be a willing victim, but here again we have the duality of sex and blood

  • Comment number 52.

50 - Hello you *winks*. Internet issues - blasted nuisance (polite version).
So should I listen out for you howling into the night on th 8th then?

  • Comment number 53.

Stupid me. I forgot to say it

    "Marigolds"

  • Comment number 54.

    Re crucifixes
In s1 didn't they say Mitchell was fine holding Georges necklace because George liked him.
So if they aren't being kind-of used and believed in they aren't as effective. Adam was fine in Eves room with the cross-mobile.
Maybe it's the fact that journalist was putting his faith into the cross it was so effective on Cutler, and possibly like somebody else said on thelive blog prehaps it is something to do with the size.

  • Comment number 55.

@47 That'd be a nice little bit of backstory if he was, would also make any interactions between them pretty interesting

  • Comment number 56.

Fellow bloggers do you think we can expect a demon in being human at some point?

  • Comment number 57.

    32. Ruby, good point about the crucifixes around Eve's cot - hadn't thought of that.

  • Comment number 58.

53- ROFL - do you think it's a vamp thing. Night Sea!

  • Comment number 59.

"Show me the lute" quote of the evening even if it wasn't actually in the episode.
Much as I loved Hal's sweet semi-excited smile at the end can't help feeling that it is the start of a slippery slope. But I did love the singing at the start.
Also back to conversations earlier this week Hal should definitely embroider a wall hanging for the nursery for Eve's first birthday.

  • Comment number 60.

    @sea

OOs strength unaffected by lack of blood
    OOs unaffected by Doors
    OOs unaffected by crucifixes
    OOs affected by succubi
    OOs affected by WW blood
OOs able to master their memories by routine pressups and OC behaviour
    OOs minds very sharp
OOs lack of blood drinking causing them to lose teeth, rotten teet see mr snow aboard ship

  • Comment number 61.

56 - Well we do know they exist in the BH universe now so I do hope so :) and if demons exist does that mean angel's exist too?

  • Comment number 62.

I honestly don't know how to feel right now.

  • Comment number 63.

61 - I think pretty much everything exists and we'll meet them all if we have enough series.

  • Comment number 64.

    52. sasha. *winks right back atcha*

Who knows what the 8th will bring, i'd advise you to stay indoors after 8 though.

You might find my bite is worse than my bark! Hahaha.

Incidentally, I loved this episode. Is it just me or are Hal and Annie getting closer? That little exchange near the end got me thinking. Annie's taste in men really is deplorable!

  • Comment number 65.

@51 and 56 I really hope they don't show either, the show really needs to just steer clear of religion, it only bogs it down. See series 2 for an example.

  • Comment number 66.

I'm also beginning to wonder that since Hal and Cutler's paths still haven't crossed that Hal could be Cutler's maker. Griffin did say he 'wasn't around' rather than 'dead' (or did i misinterpret that?), that would be quite a twist if it were the case don't you think?

  • Comment number 67.

@BBD loved this episode too, second fave of the series after ep3. Definitely getting closer, but I think/hope just more in terms of trust and friendship. It would be a bit repetitive if it was something more, no?

  • Comment number 68.

59: Rhentaghost: I agree, I've been thinking that maybe Hal is relaxing too much, and worried how he and Annie encouraged each other to 'shut him {the journalist} up a bit' they were sort of kidding themselves about the 'bit' part.

Good to see echoes of Lord Harry in the dream sequence. And I love that in Hal's sub-conscious Annie just breezes through talking about the baby and then going off to make tea;o)

  • Comment number 69.

So why did Hal have the other dream about killing Tom and then Eve? From the way she said it it seems the subliminal message from FW is definitely still stuck somewhere in his subconscious but why would the succubus make him dream that, it's hardly going to help make him fall in love with her is it? Unless the dreams not only played on their greatest desires but also their greatest fears, in Hal's case reverting to what he was and doing the worst thing he can think of, killing the war child... Have to say I thought his reaction was adorable, Annie having to rentaghost in past the giant pile of all his possessions (and Hal is a tidy man, it must have been difficult for him to do that) to find him cowering as far from the door as possible, I think it's safe to say he's not about to act on that dream any time soon!

@54 Good theory about the crucifixes. I had forgotten about Mitchell and George's necklace. And had also failed to notice Adam being fine with Eve's crucifix mobile despite not being an OO. So Hal would be immune anyway but I guess they're not intended for Hal and Adam, Annie put them there and she trusts him so they are less powerful or something. Still think it's odd that Hal didn't mention the OOs are immune to them though, you'd think Annie would want to know that!

Hal singing and wearing marigolds = pure gold

  • Comment number 70.

61- Ooooo I do hope we have enough series and lots more Hal,Annie and Tom :)

  • Comment number 71.

66 - I think you're right there RRR - he didn't say he was *dead* just not around. Wor that'll be a bit of a wouser if it happend!

64 - Stay indoors? No way - I like to look it straight in the face and laugh. Your bite is worse than your bark - that'll be right :-)

  • Comment number 72.

@69 My personal theory is that the second dream wasn't succubus induced at all and it was Hal's subconscious way of letting him know what was going on and what Yvonne was. Keeping control.

  • Comment number 73.

@66/71 he said he didn't care who Cutler is or who his maker is, he's 'gone now'. So could definitely be Hal, I've been thinking that too! They've been a long time now just missing each other, and Cutler's reaction to that coroner's description of Hal last week was pretty intense, he seems to have upped his game since hearing about this well spoken vampire who attempted to scare her but then apologised and left.

Hal and Annie having a heart to heart over killing, I don't know what to think of that yet will have to watch again! I like that she's finally accepted him though, not treating him like a slightly insane inconvenience anymore! At least she's not in denial anymore, she knows what she did to Kirby and is admitting the truth rather than turning a blind eye like she so often has done in the past

  • Comment number 74.

Yup Annie killed and admitted she'd quite like to do it again. Ooooh errr Mrs.

Right I'm off for the night. Sleep well all - even you BBD that you are :-) - catch up tomorrow.

    Night!

  • Comment number 75.

You're probably right sasha, only one way to find out!!!

I think Hal could well be Cutlers maker, was thinking during tonights episode that the two haven't 'met' yet. So maybe a meeting of the two could be saved till near the end. Could Cutler bring out the worst in Hal? Herrick did seem to favour Mitchell. Maybe it's a nepotisic thing!

  • Comment number 76.

    type 1
    type 2
    Ghosts and vampires
    type3
    werewolves
    type4
    zombie
    type5
    succubusand as rightly analysed
    type6
    demon as suvccubus yvonne daddy

    thus angel
    angel
    we want an angel

because that certainly would explain the war
vamps and their demon masters fighting over the ownership of Earth against humans and werewolves united but afterall both species are alive

though I do not expect to meet an angel before season 5

  • Comment number 77.

66/71/73 I think it's definitely possible that Hal made Cutler, when Hal is in the journalist's hotel room he said it could be someone who had heard his Budapest monastery story. Who would be more likely to know Hal's history than someone he made himself?

  • Comment number 78.

Night sasha, I'll see you around. Internet permitting!

I loved the way Hal said 'whipping', reminded me of Stewie Griffin from Family Guy and the 'coolwhip'. All the emphasis on the 'H'.

  • Comment number 79.

Finally managed to get the clip to play and I had to watch it three times I kept missing bits because of laughing too much! "The lute is the coolest of all medieval stringed instruments" has the edge over "show me the lute" as best quote for me XD

@77 but remember everyone knew all the Mitchell stories and Hal seems to be even more notorious than he was! I do definitely still think he could be Cutler's maker though :)

  • Comment number 80.

    @anyone mentioning Hal/Cutler
Agree. The journalists room scenario was too neatly set up for them to meet and for them not to have been an accident (somewhere in there is a sentence that makes sense.)
So if that's the case Cutler must have been a vampire for at least 55 years. Maybe the last vampire Hal made before he went clean? Maybe it was that event that made him go clean this time?

  • Comment number 81.

@77 if it means that Hal and Cutler get some interaction I dont really mind, i'd like it if Hal sort of saw him as a son too and had a bit of a moral dilemma when it comes to killing him. Speaking of which i really relaly hope Cutler isn't killed this series

  • Comment number 82.

Rent a ghost. Hal cant of been Cutlers maker. He was dismissed out of hand by Griffin(?) in episode 1 when he said that Cutlers maker was dead.

  • Comment number 83.

82 - Well technically Hal is dead just not dead dead :)

  • Comment number 84.

    78. @badDog - CoolWHHip! Loved that. Wandering why Tom gets so excited by barristers? something to do with previous court appearances?

  • Comment number 85.

83- True enough, but I think that the guy in ep1 meant dead and gone. As in What happened to Mitchell and Herrick.

  • Comment number 86.

85- Yeah I think that was just wishful thinking on my part. It would have been awesome if Cutler was made by Hal though.

  • Comment number 87.

82: Unless they believe Hal is dead. Fergus was surprised to hear that Hal was around. And if Hal was famously prolific in his killing, the fact that they heard nothing more of him may have lead them to assume he was dead. That perhaps Leo killed him when he escaped? Just a thought.

  • Comment number 88.

    @howlingblue
Right I wasn't sure so I rewatched the bit in ep one. What Griffin actually says is: "I don't care who you are, or who your maker was, he's gone now..."
Technically Hal has been 'gone' for 55 years and the bit aboutt he maker sounds like he's implying Cutler thinks he should have been important because of who his maker was. So if not Hal then poss one of the other OOs? Still hoping Hal though. That would be interesting.

  • Comment number 89.

86: Yeah me too with the wishful thinking!

  • Comment number 90.

    83. I'm almost certain Griffin said Cutler's maker was 'not around'. But saying that, i've been certain about things in the past and been proved wrong. Need to speak to someone who remembers things much better than i do before i commit.

  • Comment number 91.

Well, I'm sure there will be demons next. But what other types could there be??? We can make a list!

I like the thought of things like poltergeist, banshee, obviously if we have demons we'll have angels... I'd love to see something like a guardian angel.... Thoughts?

  • Comment number 92.

@88 yeah when i first watched that i just thought he was talking about Wyndem but now i'm thinking Hal

  • Comment number 93.

I Think now Hal believes he's OK, he'll become complacent. Slippery slope as someone said ^^

More tomorrow. Night night new friends ;)

    N x

  • Comment number 94.

That other vampire only said Cutler's maker was 'gone now', they probably consider Hal as being gone/lost to them, or maybe they don't even know he's alive at all. If they do they clearly don't see him as a threat anymore despite once all being scared of him. I think it's possible he is his maker. Two things just occured to me, firstly the way Lauren was treated amongst the other vampires after Mitchell made her and abandoned her, she was one of them but never quite included, they didn't look after her properly and they all said he should have been there with her. Cutler may not be a new vampire like Lauren but that's not so dissimilar from the way the others see him, like they're tolerating him but don't really want him there. Being the 'child' of an old one, someone they once looked up to could exlain that, especially if they believe his maker is dead. Also the flashback to the 'tomb service' scene with Mitchell and Herrick where Herrick goes on about the bond between a maker and his progeny, that it's not something to be entered into lightly. Herrick was pure evil but he seemed to really believe all that and he certainly had trouble dealing with Mitchell even after all the things Mitchell did he always seemed unwilling to kill him without first trying to persuade him back, as if he missed him.. If that bond is something so important and Hal is Cutler's maker, it could make things very difficult for poor Hal when they do meet!

Definitely think it's possible, and that the creation of Cutler could have been a key piece in bringing Hal towards his decision to give up blood.

  • Comment number 95.

Just another thought.... So if a demon has a child with a human, we get a succubus or incubus... What if a demon crossed with a vampire, werewolf or ghost.... OR IF a ghost could actually become pregnant!!!!

  • Comment number 96.

91- Poltergiest and Banshee would be awesome and if anyone deserves a guardian angel Eve should have one, she has quite a lot of people who will be wanting her dead.

  • Comment number 97.

    @91/96
Poltergeists have already been in it. Series 1 when Annie was upset about Owen and started exploding lights and smashing plates in the PH Mitchell *sob* told George she was a Poltergeist.

  • Comment number 98.

We've already had poltergeists, they're just ghosts with issues who don't know how to control their energy yet! Annie went through her poltergeist phase in season 1 after finding out about Owen, and Pearl had a minor poltergeist episode when Leo was dying. But they both had help, other supernaturals who knew what it was and could guide them through it and help them regain their control. Presumably without that help it would keep getting worse and worse until the effects started reaching horror movie levels instead of just flickering lights and flying teacups and coffee jars!

I hope Hal doesn't get complacent now he's finally starting to believe in himself a bit!

  • Comment number 99.

I'd really really hate it if they brought in angels. It just evokes all those annoying saccharine e-mails my gran sends me, with trite platitudes and aryan angels with seriously big hair. It makes me feel queasy just thinking about it. :(

  • Comment number 100.

I could do without angels too, I'm not sure any show will ever be able to do angels as well as Supernatural did with Castiel... Though if another show was going to try I'd want it to be BH!

I'm just sitting here writing stupidly long comments on this post, time for bed I think! night all
