New to BH? Watch out, this post contains spoilers from series one...

While Toby is busy sweating over a Word document as he writes the eagerly awaited Series 2 of Being Human, we have a behind-the-scenes treat from Series 1 for your delectation...

Before the BH cast and crew descended on sunny Bristol to shoot Series 1, the team squeezed into a cosy room for read-throughs of the script. In script read-throughs, such as this one of episode 6, the actors get to know their characters, and each other, as well as eating lots of biscuits.

Fancy a look? Well here you go...

Comments

  • Comment number 1.

    That was really interesting. Ty!
    Shows Tovey's talent perfectly.
And lol to the guy at the back laughing as Whithouse gave his scene set-up.

  • Comment number 2.

    Yay the blog's fixed :-)

Thanks for the new video :-) and glad Barry's managed to escape lol

Where was Aidan during this then? Or am I just being really unobservant and he was in the background somewhere...

  • Comment number 3.

Yeah Russell really is brilliant - just watching him dance in Gavin and Stacey - best scene ever...wonder if he ever found out what a stanchion is lol

  • Comment number 4.

Probably wasn't involved in this scene read through.

It could have been laughter or discomfort/boredom actually from a ... writer? Either way, great update thanks blog team. :)

  • Comment number 5.

    What's a stanchion?

  • Comment number 6.

"Tovey sent me a text the other day saying Im on my way to work just realsed I said it in your show but I dont know what a stanchion is"

Lol but then the next sentence "We really are so lucky to have this calibre of actors coming in to do these little bits - Russell and Matt really are just so good"

Litle snippet from the brain box of the lovely James Corden :-)

Ooh Russell's dancing again...woo "I love Russells dancing in this look watch...go Russ go!"

Lol ahh I REALLY hope hes in the new series :-)

  • Comment number 7.

Well it was something to do with football :-S

    BHPod - help? lol

  • Comment number 8.

*bhprod! lol not pod...oh you know what I mean - im distractd by Russells dancing in foam lol

  • Comment number 9.

Still clueless. I could google it in a heartbeat but I think that search engine has taken the fun out of mystery and stupidity so I'll leave it be.

  • Comment number 10.

lol i just thought it was sweet the fact he said the line and had a conversation about it then text james after saying actually no idea what i was on about lol

i love the scene where hes just laughing at the edge of the shot...Oh I just love this episode!

Ahh theyre laughing about him corpsing again apparently he does it in both series but i dont remember the other one might put series 1 on and look out for it lol...yeah its a slow day :-)

  • Comment number 11.

    lol.

Eagle your new vid is possibly.. my favourite fan vid of all time.
Everyone check out from the forum link. Guy's gorgeous voice is on there.

  • Comment number 12.

    :-) thank you :-)

im quite proud of it actually and it kept me entertained yesterday afternoon :-)

just need to find a song then im gonna do one for guys mitchell - dont worry still think aidans great but i refuse to forget our original mitchell :-) and to be fair there are so many videos for aidan already

Told you vampires have a natural charisma - I dont think its any coincidence both our Mitchells have extrmeley sexy voices (in very different ways though) :-)

  • Comment number 13.

No it's not coincidence- they cast well.

  • Comment number 14.

they do...apart from original lauren - didnt like her

  • Comment number 15.

original Lauren was just.. eurgh. I hate getting at anybody especially other women but seriously what was that all about? I could have played her better.

  • Comment number 16.

Think you would have enjoyed it more too lol

"he has this thing about me and him on a sofa...You're just like him I swear he's relentless!"

Lol you can kinda see where all the slash comes from in the pilot cant you

Its so funny - somehow the pilot manages to be darker and funnier

Oh im sounding like a traitor :-( im not honestly lol just its briliant it really is

  • Comment number 17.

Aww this is great! I love behind the scenesy stuff. Thankyou. :)

  • Comment number 18.

Hmm, can't see it. Wonder if it's on Youtube hmm*investigates*

  • Comment number 19.

eugh no im ot friends with youtube at the minute lol woldnt let me put my new video up :-( think everyone still managed to get a looksie but still - how on earth can they say theres copyright protection on a track that i downloaded from there in the first place? silly

  • Comment number 20.

I live in Norway and just happened on to a clip from BH on our BBC Entertainment netsite awhile back. I LOVE Russell Tovey and have since I saw him at the National Theatre in the History Boys a couple of years ago. Since we don't get all the good stuff here in Norway, I buy alot of BBC series from Amazon. Life on Mars, Nighty Night (really funny!), Primeval, Cranford, etc. and of course Being Human. I'm so glad a second series is coming next year. Just wish I could get it on TV instead of having to wait for the DVD.

I am not your typical twenty-something(the main target group for BH)...I'm a 58 year old drama teacher originally from the US. I just can't get enough of quality British acting. I get over to London several times a year for theatre as well as watching British TV. Maybe I'll move to England when I retire!

Looking forward to series 2 of BH!

    arnellen

  • Comment number 21.

    Hey arnellen

You should be able to watch series 2 online instead of having to wait until the dvd :-D

  • Comment number 22.

oh thank god! van helsey liberated a new keyboard from work, so I am back on the Being Human planet again!! bet you didnt even notice I was gone did you?
love the read thru vid. I liked seeing Toby talking and the finished scenes up at the same time. does that make sense? like where Lenora is marching around the funeral parlour on the finished clip while Toby is talking us through it. Great stuff!! Thanks BH prodders!

  • Comment number 23.

toby is brilliant isnt he :-)
i dont really get star struck but i think if i met toby i would just be a gibbering wreck :-S

  • Comment number 24.

That was a cool video, I love all the behind the scenes stuff. I like the way they tied it into the finished scenes as well. I wish they'd have put more of that kind of thing on the dvd.

Please Sir BHP... can I have some more?

  • Comment number 25.

Thanks BH. That was most interesting - hope we can see more soon.

  • Comment number 26.

Hello, eagle_eyes4! Thanks for the tip...I can watch 10 minute segments at a time on Youtube, but I don't think I can watch episodes directly on the net...unless I download illegally. I wish I could! I would gladly pay to be able to do that. I can't even watch the videos they have on this site. I just get a "not available in this area" message on my screen. I guess I'll just have to be patient. I've got Ashes to Ashes coming in the mail soon, so I'll be able to see Philip Glenister. He's brilliant. I'm also looking forward to series 3 of Primeval. Cheers, arnellen

  • Comment number 27.

    Hi arnellen....welcome.

I agree Gene Hunt rules.....and this from someone (anyone will tell you) who really REALLY loves Mitchell.

Philip Glennister stole the 'Life on Mars' show didn't he?. Just so funny. He is just as good in Ashes to Ashes

  • Comment number 28.

arnellen - can you get bbc i player where you are? sorry if thats a really thick quesion but i hae no idea :-S

im sure some very nice...but rather naughty person will put the on youtube as soo as they air though :-D so youll e able to see

its a shame you cant see these videos - there are some really good ones - but again i think the majority are on youtube too :-)

oh and hello everyone else :-) how are we all?

  • Comment number 29.

    I'm fine eagle....you??

  • Comment number 30.

Check out eagle's new Owen/Annie vid on YouTube (Being Human - Smooth Criminal)

I think the music choice is just phenomenal - is it wrong that I am saying that when it was my suggestion? ;-)

cieria's to follow - the video-off between eagle and cieria - who wins? you decide. lol. They both win though obviously.

  • Comment number 31.

*cry* why is it only the UK'rs get to see all the awesome stuff? I mean I never even see this stuff on youtube or anything? go figure...

  • Comment number 32.

eagle:: just watched the smooth crim vid. Once again, well done, really enjoyed it.......(plenty of Mitchell bits). Had forgotten the funny bit at the end with the policeman needing a different form.
    Well done.

    cieria:: bring it on.

  • Comment number 33.

That was the video I wanted to see... Eagle, that was brilliant!!!!

You fitted the clips with the lyrics and all the on screen action was to the beat, bloody brilliant.

    I love, love, love it.

...shit my pizza is burning, back in a bit.

  • Comment number 34.

Incinerated, Eagle I hold you responsible.

  • Comment number 35.

    Tyrs4u - feel sorry for you :-(

Just caved and made a Gregg Chillin Facebook group, so please join Everyone (there are also a Gilbert Fun, Herrick and Mr W ones)

  • Comment number 36.

Oh dear bunnybiter, 'tis a good vid though. Cieria's up now too (she's called Cancae on YouTube)

  • Comment number 37.

Ok watched both vidoes now. Loved that both vids started the same.
So how are we scoring this video off?
I've got an idea, I'll start then I'll pass it over. Whoever has the most points at the end of the night wins?

eagle- nice timing, on the beat- 2
    cieria- good length- 2
cieria- great shot of kitchen and fade into dead at bottom of stairs- 3
    eagle- Gilbert, take 5 points

    sperkii, please continue....

  • Comment number 38.

no, no, no. I am not getting involved. They're both good

  • Comment number 39.

    :o(
yes they are both good, very good and much much better than I could do. Healthy competition, that's all.

  • Comment number 40.

    Hi, vampfan,

We got Life on Mars-series 1 here on NRK (Norwegian National Television). Actually, they show alot of British TV. We've had Rebus and some Waking the Dead, Ab- Fab, Black Adder. Norwegians LOVE Mr. Bean. BBC Entertainment is our satelite channel. We get stuff a long time after you've seen it. Endless reruns of Keeping Up Appearances and the Vicar of Dibley. They ran the second season of Hustle, which I loved, and The Long Firm...Mark Strong is wonderful.

I'm looking forward to Ashes to Ashes, but I have a feeling it's not going to be as good as Life on Mars. I'll miss John Sim. But as you say, Gene Hunt is a great character and Glenister is really great in the part.

  • Comment number 41.

    Hi, eagle,
Please let me know if you find out about ANYTHING on Youtube from BH. You mentioned something about Annie/Owen? I'll try to find it.

  • Comment number 42.

Bunny, there's a poll up on the forum where you can vote for the vids.

And mine has a bit of Gilbert in too. :P Not as much as eagle has but still a bit.

  • Comment number 43.

Arnellen- Search for Annie/owen Smooth criminal. That should get both our vids.

  • Comment number 44.

Just watched the Annie/Owen video on Youtube. Just makes me want to see more BH!!!

  • Comment number 45.

Arnellen, if you look around my and eagles channels then there's more vids there.

I think we all want more BH.

  • Comment number 46.

    Thanks, Cieria, I'll do that!

  • Comment number 47.

    No problem. :D

  • Comment number 48.

Ha ok so ot read them allyet but you lot make me smile so mch :-D glad you liked the video

arnellen glad you found it:-)there ae sme more on y channell too - also try seaching for waidalt - her channell has every episode of being human AND unearthed which you have to see if you havent already :-)

  • Comment number 49.

oh ok sorry cieria didnt mean to repeat you lol didnt read all the way down

arnellen soundslike you get some pretty good telly - im mainly into comedy - but love ashes to ashes - missed most of it though :-(

just been watching gavin and stacey - brilliant show do you get that over there? Russells in a couple of episodes if you need selling :-) but mostly james corden and ruth jones who wrote it - they are just legends :-) but i do love the ones with russell best he cracks me up with his little bum wiggle and the dancing...fantastic :-)

  • Comment number 50.

vicar of dibley and abfab wht more coud you want? :-)

i met french and saunders they were really friendly so now i love them even more lol

have you ever seen catherine tates sketch show? shes the only other female comic I really like :-S shes brilliant - although to be fair i think me and my nans version is funnier lol...oh dont you just love christmas when your nans been on the homemade slightly generously measured cocktails lol

  • Comment number 51.

ooh no angels in ten minutes people :-)

  • Comment number 52.

Hello, eagle! We get Catherine Tate here, too. LOVE her! Espesially Nan. I saw Matthew Horne in Entertaining Mr. Sloan last time I was in London. He's brilliant, too. Also, Little Britain. How could I forget that one! All in all, just thankful that we get the stuff we get from you guys!

  • Comment number 53.

Yeah Mat Horne is brilliant (hes in Gavin and Stacey too) him and James Corden have just done a sketch show over here - it was Ok there were a few good sketches but I liked them better in Gavin and Stacey and Mat in Catherine Tate to be honest.

Have you seen the Catherine tate's comic relief sketch from a couple of years ago with David Tennant? If not youtube it - brilliant! :-D

Again - we've done brilliantly at staying on topic havent we? :-)

  • Comment number 54.

Ok just read a synopsis thing of being human and i was described as "a bizzare supernatural sitcom"

that has got to be the worst description ever - I wouldnt watch that it sounds awful lol it's far from a sitcom...

  • Comment number 55.

'sitcom' conjures up images of that horrible canned laughter.

But I know quite a few people who never started to watch it because of the 'comedy' tag it got and no matter how many times I told them it was actually very dark with funny bits in it...it was too late, they had made their minds it wasn't for them......still, their loss.

  • Comment number 56.

thanks for that bh guys its great to get a look at every thing that goes in to making an episode

  • Comment number 57.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE a lot of sitcoms but "bizzare supernatural sitcom" just conjures images of spaced and (gets ready to run...) I really - as much as I love Simon Pegg - was not a fan - but I've not met anyone who agrees with me on that yet :-S

  • Comment number 58.

OMGG eagle. How very dare you? ;)
Simon Pegg is just pure skill and Spaced was even better than that.
OK I'll end my Spaced fan-girldom here because I know that no one will mess with me ;)

  • Comment number 59.

    Good morning, eagle!
Just watched the Catherine Tate/David Tennant sketches. Thanks for the tip. Really good! as far as sit-coms go: i truly hate canned laughter. some of the stuff from the US has it after every line. it's just noise! why do they do that?!?

And superOchre: I love Simon Pegg, too. Bought Spaced at HMV after seeing Shawn of the Dead (at least 5 times! I'd watch it with anybody who hadn't seen it before. Penelope Wilton is one of my favorites!)I thought Spaced was good. Not great, but it was nice seeing Simon and Nick acting together again. I wasn't that excited about Hot Fuzz, but it was okay, too.

  • Comment number 60.

I dont like canned laughter but i dont mind things that have actually been filmed in front of a live audience, or most these days actually use a mixture of both - im more a fan of british sitcom - two pints (always the first to try something new which is brilliant and a young female writer which is always good for inspiration :-D) my family, not going out, black books (dylan moran and bill bailey what more could you want?!) and obviously the classics ab fab, vicar of dibley and of course only fools and horses (which Toby hates lol first person ive ever heard of not liking it!)

but there are some good american ones too - i mean obviously friends - it really was a briliant show and i love the cartoon ones - the simpsons, family guy and americn dad - brilliant - seth macfarlane really is a genius.

The theory is that laughing is a group thing - and that you're more likely to laugh in a group and canned laughter's supposed to give you that feeling and sort of gives you permission to laugh if you like and also it's meant to recreate a sort of theatre atmosphere. Most film in front of a live audience now though where possible and if not they'll sometimes show the program to a live audience after its been made (they did that with red dwarf because of the special effects etc i think...)

wahey who knew the media studies would come in handy one day lol

  • Comment number 61.

oh and arnellen glad you liked that sketch :-D a favourite of mine "did you just pitch up from mars?" lol brilliant

  • Comment number 62.

hello peeps how are we all? anyone around? I'm here for a bit, laptop is still very dodgy which is why I'm even more erratic than usual lol!!

  • Comment number 63.

I watched some of Shaun of the Dead and couldnt stop laughing I thought it was brilliant! had to go to bed in the middle tho, I cant stay up til 3am every night anymore, unlike eagle!!

  • Comment number 64.

I'll be on and off but just got to go make some form of breakfast...dinner...wait what time is it? Well im being pestered for food of some description lol talk later

  • Comment number 65.

lol superOchre's son wanted his dinner just now, must be something in the air!

  • Comment number 66.

    lol maybe.

you alright then brooksie? forums quiet today...

my sodding computer only managed to get rid of all the videos i was woring on :-( :-( :-(

  • Comment number 67.

has everyone fallen off the face of the earth? time was there'd be a few hundred comments by now :-( dont tell me everyones forgetting about it already...so fickle lol or is that our fault for making the forum :-S mind you thats pretty quiet...

oh well i suppose i could actually do something productive instead...

  • Comment number 68.

BH fan-girl for life! Or for as long as it's aired and I like it I guess...
Don't worry it's just lulled because it's not on. This blog will kick off in an almost unbearable way come the next series. I'm enjoying the peace while I can. *spreads out out across blog enjoying the space* ahhh...

  • Comment number 69.

I'm watching the pilot. Yeah Guy is just yum. Mitch Coin-trick bit later embellished by Herrick showing off to the nurses.
Much darker than the series, love it. :)

  • Comment number 70.

Ewww George is washing himself in the wrong order. Eye infection is pretty likely.

Guy's Mitch is more believable but less fun and doesn't mesh well with George.

  • Comment number 71.

I've copied the other posts so that's all included for my 'I'm-bored-out-of-my-tiny-mind-pilot-talk through'. Here it is:

I'm watching the pilot. Yeah Guy is just yum. Mitch's coin-trick bit later embellished by Herrick showing off to the nurses.
Much darker than the series, love it. :) Ancient machinery chat up line.

Ewww George is washing himself in the wrong order. Eye infection is pretty likely.

Guy's Mitch is more believable but less fun and doesn't mesh well with George.

why is an immortal worried about futons giving him spinal injuries?
    funny as...

    dirty estate agent :s

    Pulp!

    chicken referenced for later.

who keeps a cricket bat by the stairs?

where are Annie's radio headphones? And who calls them that?

"box room"- George actually uses actions for this. *Big fish, little fish, cardboard box*

Julia's boyf foreshadowing of Owen? Bad*** George!

Ooo Guy topless. He does look like he's been stretched. He needs a higher ironing board.

"dangerous"- yeah he's hardcore. How long did it take Guy to perfect his vampire voice?

love the Annie/Mitch bed scene "define long". I would have so shipped these two.

sticks and rope- so not scary in the slightest.

Hmm.. NOT the Herrick, that's a hustler!

    Prodigy!

Oooo... Tovey is amazing and scary.

Boring hustler guy's biblical lecture (careful Mitch, he'll pickpocket you), at least Sethy's doing his brooding bit.

Annie has already seen George transform *sigh at ep 1*
Little Dorrit crying with Annie on the hospice steps.

Harry Potter + safety scissors and glue = sociopaths.

Moonies reference- have no idea what that is.

    Buy Colin Firth- why??

Warning! Very bad acting/cheesy American- Lauren is going off on one. :s

People are- 'drrrawwwwings on paper' apparently.

Tectonic plates reference, blah blah blah.

    End of.

    I love the pilot. :D

  • Comment number 72.

I am not responsible for the overly dramatic gap in the post.

  • Comment number 73.

lol you make me laugh super
*whispers* I still havent seen the pilot

  • Comment number 74.

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 75.

and yeah i guess you're right about apreciating the space...hope BH remembers whos stayed with them all this time when the rabble join us again lol

it has its advantages - ican watch the videos when the blogs quieter :-)

  • Comment number 76.

    They are my posts.
I commented as I was watching it this arvo.
If you watch the pilot again take sneaky peaks at my comments as you go.

  • Comment number 77.

oh and the moonies is nickname for a religion but dunno which

and guys mitchell less fun?! he was brilliant - the hospital scene "dont make me come over there!" and "come on lassie" all that? Rargh not geting into this cock youll have more luck convincing sperkii that gilberts an idiot lol

but do still love aidan obviously...again lol have to add that on the end of all posts containing guy love...both good actors both sexy both have lovely voices...just different...

  • Comment number 78.

a religious movement? I thought it was some long forgotten childrens program.

  • Comment number 79.

ahh good vid good vid. exactly what the doctor ordered bhprod. thanks for providing topnotch essay distraction.

also, i am pretty damn sure i saw marcus whitney, the BH make-up artist on whiteladies road yesterday, so if you see him could you let him know that the girl whose head did a 180 as she walked by staring at him was a BH fan who couldn't quite place him until she was too far away and too late for work to run back and bow at his feet? thanks.

When i did place him i got really overexcited for a second and thought they were already inproduction for series 2 .. and then i thought.. no, hang on, toby's still writing it.

oh well, will continue living in the hope that i will someday round a corner and find the whole crew filming a big scene...

  • Comment number 80.

also could you please tell toby to get a twitter account so i can legitimately stalk him rather than spend my days waiting for him to status-update his facebook profile?

  • Comment number 81.

you sure you're not thinking of te moomins? lol

  • Comment number 82.

bex you're on his facebook? thats more stalking that twitter :-S do like twitter though - got a lovely message of mat horne the other day :-)

but as far as im concerned facebooks kinda off limits - apart from messages i guess thats ok - well it better be lol i sent toby a message a while back

  • Comment number 83.

Ok when i say i sent him a message - just a thank you and you're very talented all that lol not a ro...a you know who stylie - you know please find enclosed all of my eyelashes and a cotton bud - can i have a swab of spit so i can clone you...none of that i promise lol perfectly sane..

  • Comment number 84.

lol eagleeyes you crack me up. cotton bud ahaha.

no i have been too afraid of being labeled a 'stalker' to even message toby. i just silently hover on his profile about once a day and read his latest status updates and laugh at all his friends' hilarious jokes and imagine what it would be like to be a member of the whithouse 'inner circle'...

but seen as you've messaged and got away with it i might just send a quick polite note of praise.. but then again i don't want to drive him to change his privacy settings and shut me out!

  • Comment number 85.

lol ok well that has me utterly bewildered because i thought you had to be friends with someone to see status and all that but then again im not very offay with internet stalking lol the only thing i can really work on my computer is the editing software - and still managed to lose an entire folder of half done videos :-( so im obviously that great at that either - probably gods way of telling me to give it up and do something more productive with my free time :-S

lol his "inner circle" - ahh i was almost in one of those - im still waiting for the day when my ex gets a tv job and turns up on my screen with some little blonde on his arm lol he was a complete pillock but id like to think that all those hours running lines with him werent entirely wasted...

  • Comment number 86.

lol you lot are bonkers you know! and I'm totally sane of course.
the moonies are an american sect - think they're proper name is the Unification church or something like that. called Moonies cos their leader is some oriental dude with the surname moon I think.

  • Comment number 87.

Lol yeah what she said...well I said it was nickname for a religionny cult thing - nearly there lol

Wooooooooooooo HANK AZARIA ON PAUL O GRADY! another god lol so glad hes over here again woo :-)

  • Comment number 88.

we watch too much telly y'know eagle.

  • Comment number 89.

hey everyone needs a hobby :-D

i do admire these people who can do voices though and hank is just a genius :-) and seth macfarlanes another one :-) see americas not all bad lol
