New to BH? This post does not contain spoilers, but the comments might...

Ring the bells!  Strike up the band!  Make a cake and for goodness sake get that champagne open!  Because Being Human has officially been recommissioned and will be coming back for a second series!

One big reason for the show coming back has been the fantastic reaction from you guys, the fans, for giving the show great viewing figures, making it the highest viewed show on iPlayer and making this website one of the most popular on the BBC.

Pat on the backs all round, and I for one shall raise my glass to you *hic*.

Danny Cohen, Controller BBC Three said "'I'm thrilled that we are re-commissioning Being Human. It's hugely popular with young viewers and earned great critical acclaim at the same time. It's also a very important staging-post in the successful development of home-grown young drama on BBC Three."

Ben Stephenson, Controller BBC Drama Commissioning added:  "I am very excited Being Human is returning for a second series. It's a distinctive modern series that has captured the imagination of the BBC Three audience in terms of strong viewer loyalty and critical acclaim, signalling a real breakthrough for drama on the channel."

Rob Pursey, Executive Producer for Touchpaper Television says:  "We already have some very exciting, very dark new stories up our sleeves, so we're delighted to have the opportunity to make a second series of Being Human.  BBC Three has been a brilliant platform for us to mount an unusual and ambitious drama."

So that's the reaction from the big bosses, but what do you guys think?  Time for a party, yeah!?  And don't miss a special message from Being Human creator Toby Whithouse on his next post here on the blog...  Woo-hoo!

    Brilliant news - can't wait!!

  • Comment number 2.

This is terrific news! - Any word on the timetable for series 2?

  • Comment number 3.

    Woohoo,
    Brilliant news!!!!!
    Can't wait
    *squeee*

  • Comment number 4.

Hurrah!!!! Now * please * can you keep the core cast together .. you may have to promise Lenora a new cardie and uggs for series 2 but budget should stretch to that ;-D

  • Comment number 5.

    Yay!!!
That is the best news i've heard all day!! I can't wait!! I will definatly be tuning in!!
I just hope the waits not going to be too long between the end of series 1 and series 2 starting! I don't think I could wait for a year! I'm too excited now!!
    :D

  • Comment number 6.

That's such good news that I signed up to the BBC Blogs just to register my approval!

Being Human in an excellent series, and the best new British drama in absolutely years. Top work!

  • Comment number 7.

Great news! Huge congrats to everyone involved. I'll bake the cake if someone buys and opens the champers.

  • Comment number 8.

Woooo! So, so happy! Easily the best british show at the moment at least! And the second series might just tip the balance for it to be my favourite full-stop!! Yay, yay, yay is all I can say! (see what you've done, you've made me poetic with happiness!)

  • Comment number 9.

Iam so glad that being human has been recommissioned and i cant wait to see it back.

But since there is nothing els worth watching on TV what the hell am i going to do till its back again?.

Its the best thing on TV
    Thanks to Russell Tover.
Who i like a lot more tham i am willing to say.

Words cant hert anybody but the truth can.

I was onece told i had a mouth like a chain saw.

over 15 years of reviewing TV programs world wide all of witch i have never had anything good to say about.
I find that i am unable to say anything bad about this one.

  • Comment number 10.

Never any doubt in my mind :-) well done.

How long will we have to wait?

  • Comment number 11.

Fantastic. Marvellous. Wow! This is amazing. I'm really glad the series has been renewed for another season. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed the first season. It's so well written and acted. It manages to be Funny / Sad / Scary all at the same time. Even the SFX are great. I'm not ashamed to admit that it's had me laughing my head off one minute and then crying the next. Good job BBC. And good job all the people that have worked on this fantastic series. It is easily the best 'genre' show that the BBC has made (Doctor Who is great, Torchwood is OK, Merlin, well... hmmmm...). And it puts other UK programs (Demons, Primeval, etc.) to shame.

DigitalSpy says the show has been renewed for an eight episode 2nd season. Is that true? I hope so.

Amazing news. Now, when's the Season 1 DVD coming out? Play.com says it's out in April. I hope that's true! Please don't make us wait a year like they do for Spooks :-)

  • Comment number 12.

Yay, that is great news! So excited to see what happens!

  • Comment number 13.

    *Puts on George's excited voice*

    SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE

This is definitely the best show I have seen in a long time - well it's the first show I've ever been compelled to write on a blog about and even register on BBC blogs!!

Well done - so I guess up to now it's staying on BBC3 rather than moving to mainstream telly? To be honest, it sort of suits the audience on there - I wouldn't want to spoil it in any way - it's just perfect as it is!

  • Comment number 14.

    **POP**

That's the Champers open SuperOchre - now are you gonna cut that cake or what!! lol

  • Comment number 15.

Precisely what i came to the site to find out - they'd have been mad not to; great!

just wanted to log that i'm not a 'younger' viewer....

Consider this on a par with Life on Mars. taking a surreal angle and write with it as if it was true and normal. This one contains a great metaphor for real human needs and behaviour, and so far the writing has stayed true, maintaining both strands' Good job.

Any chance of the pilot episode(s) again? I loved the renting the flat scene.

How did mitchell and george find each other...?

Dvd to buy and keep please'

  • Comment number 16.

Let me just ice it with Toby's face first. This may take a while.

  • Comment number 17.

ewww... so not what I meant. "An image of Toby's face" might have been better put.

  • Comment number 18.

By the way BBC bigwigs, if you're ever referred to these forums, I was only just having a conversation with my parents the other day saying that if Being Human (basically the only good thing on TV at the mo, apart from the legend which is Sir David Attenborough) wasn't commissioned for a 2nd series, there would be absolutely no point paying the TV license anymore. TV has been dumbed down so much and even the BBC, once respected for it's high standards, has succumbed to merely satifying the lowest common denominator and providing youth-obsessed, inane programmes. THANK GOODNESS FOR BEING HUMAN! - The Anti-Trash TV show, hurrah!

  • Comment number 19.

*puts on some Gary Numan and starts dancing like Gilbert*

    Woohoo

  • Comment number 20.

#19-*gets out fingerless gloves and dances with*
#18- I agree with one point. The age thing. I'm 27 and even now the only drama focused group I see are in their teens or early twenties. I sometimes feel like my age group and above have fallen off the planet. So this show has helped in that aspect. Why no one else has tried before or succeeded in mixing all age groups in one bbc drama is beyond me.

  • Comment number 21.

Epic news, cant wait, roll on the DVD release so that we have a distraction till series 2

  • Comment number 22.

    Fabulous new!

Congratulations to all the cast and crew.

Well done the BBC for actually giving us some thoughtful, witty and grown up drama for once.

Now pass me a glass of that champagne!

  • Comment number 23.

    Fabulous NEWS (blush)

  • Comment number 24.

great news and hope its not an age before its back on screen i have one little beef tho, its not just popular with young viewers I am 49 and i am sure i am not the only more mature viewer. I dont think that age comes into it- good drama is for all to enjoy

  • Comment number 25.

Yippeeee! So happy there will be another series, but a little apprehensive -please make sure it's a corker! just like the first. You guys can do it!

I also am 27 & I love this show it definatey appeals to a broad range of people!

I have been singing BHs praises like an overzealous evangelist. Introducing it to people from mid 20s to mid 50s. Everyone who has watched it has loved it.

  • Comment number 26.

Yeah, I am 25 and my parents are in their late 50s and we all love BH

  • Comment number 27.

"It's hugely popular with young viewers"

Why don't they just say 'viewers' it isn't Skins.

So shall we do a straw poll?

    Oh_Suzi is 27

    and I am 34.

  • Comment number 28.

sperkii we must try and stop posting at the same time.lol

  • Comment number 29.

aha yey!!! I'm already excited for the second series, congratulations btw for making it such a great show.
I'm really glad to see it's getting the recognition it deserves it really is a brilliant show.

You definetly can't kill Mitchell now, or send Annie over to the other side aha!

  • Comment number 30.

yayyy...well done..now we have something to look forward to in our dreary little lives :0)

less of the "popular with young viewers "...some of us are 40+,have degrees and love all things Das Unheimliche :0)

  • Comment number 31.

    I'M SO HAPPY!

I'm so relieved and excited and joyful and very much looking forward to the new series. Withdrawal shall have to be eased with repated viewing of the DVD.

This probably has no chance of getting answered, but would anyone be able to tell me where Mitchell's purple baseball jacket is from? I know it's probably from some sort of vintage shop, so I know I'm not going to be able to get another, but I absolutely love it and I'm just curious. In fact, I love every single item of Mitchell's wardrobe.

  • Comment number 32.

    More straw poll results:

I'm 25. Most of the people on the Livejournal BH comm are the same, or older than me! As one person put it, "I half-expect someone to turn up and tell me to stop watching 'cause I'm over 30." xD

Personally I think all of this warrants a screening on BBC2 this autumn, while we wait for filming to be finished on series 2. It would work, I'm sure it would!

OH GOD just realised that I'm going to be seeing them filming around Bristol again! Might be the perfect time to make that pilgrimage to the Big Pink House...

  • Comment number 33.

Yay, Second series! Congrats to everyone involved in the show, its fantastic and deserves all the success it can handle!

  • Comment number 34.

Hey Ben Stephenson ... not just 'young people' watching this you know.

Thrilled there's gonna be another series though.

  • Comment number 35.

Cake and champagne sounds good ... count me in ;)

  • Comment number 36.

By the way BH, any thoughts on the old competition/auction suggestion? The interest from fans would be massive I reckon, so could be a good charity effort.

  • Comment number 37.

OMG! this is brilliant thank you bbc i love you. this is the best program yet it has every elemet needed no wondser it is coming back hurray !

  • Comment number 38.

They won't auction stuff off if there is a new series, they kinda need it.
But in the interest of greediness.. I baggsy Mitchell's coat for a max bid of... *empties pockets* £11.28.

  • Comment number 39.

I'm so glad it's been recommissioned. It totally took my breath away how good the series was (both the writing and the acting --- and not just the leads, even the minor characters). I mean I thought it would be good but I didn't realise it would be SO good.
I can't wait to see how the characters/stories will evolve over the next series.

  • Comment number 40.

Lol like you sperkii i had very little doubt but still i actually just jumped up and went yaaaaaaaaaaay!! Cant wait - any news of a date yet?!?!

    yay yay yay lol

  • Comment number 41.

Damn 11.28 i have....erm 13 pence lol can i have the gloves instead? Id actually wear them lol might be able to rake a few more quid out from somewhere :-S

So wheres the party then? I'll put another cake in the oven one wont be enough!! :-D The BBC have done something right and great for once lets make the most of this rare event lol

oh ps. agree about the age thing but theyve given us what we wanted so lets not nit pick :-) if they want to think we're all 16 then let em :-)

  • Comment number 42.

While we wait for the new series, how about a re-run of this series, inc. the pilot, at the end of October...

Maybe it will prove even more mainstream than The Brass think.

  • Comment number 43.

well the people who made that statement might be in their 60's so we would still seem very young.
but i agree, i will be 16 if they like, as long as they keep this series going i don't care.

    more champers?

  • Comment number 44.

I never ever ever normally write on these things...but I am so pleased being human has a second series...its the best thing on tv for ages... I love everything about it. lets hope there is a 3rd 4th 5th and beyond series. Hope we don't have to wait too long and hope there are more episodes next time. I am dreading the end of series one its the only show on tv I will not miss. Well done everyone...well deserved.

  • Comment number 45.

And for Annie's (fake?) Uggs I will be bidding a max of 79.99 (local stores sale price). as long as she is size 4; otherwise I retract my last statement.

  • Comment number 46.

    THRILLED! OVER-JOYED! ASTOUNDED! OVER-THE-MOON!
    Well done, dear ol' BBC!

  • Comment number 47.

This is great news! I am so happy there is something for us to look forwards to in the next few months!
    Thank you so much!

  • Comment number 48.

Loving the party! We're very much enjoying the celebrations at our end and have just finished off Bernie's left over party rings from episode four.

eagle_eyes4 and superOchre, thanks for all the cake too, it's delish. The icing of Toby's face (comment #16) was well worth it.

As far as a transmission date goes, it's early days, so there's nothing announced yet. However, the DVD of series one will be out on April 20th. Toby will be back next week with his final blog post, so I'm sure he'll have something more to say about it there... Don't miss it. And we'll have all sorts of interesting stuff on the blog next week to keep you entertained once the series is over.

Hold on, who put 'Barbie Girl' on the stereo? Oh I see, Annie must have arrived...

  • Comment number 49.

AS for the poll... I am 39 this year , my husband is 43 and I have had great conversation with some of the students teach (15 to 17) about Being Human!

  • Comment number 50.

    Oh!
    Any champagne left?
    Ta very much!!

Cake is on the table :-)

  • Comment number 51.

    April 20th noted!
    Marked in calendar!

    Whoo hoo!

  • Comment number 52.

Yay someone from the BH team come to join the party come on plenty of cake left...ooh pass the party rings :-D

This is the best news ive had this year...although this probably says more about the state of my life than anything lol.

Just promise you'll let us know as soon as youow any dates - April 20th already marked on the calendar i want to make sure im first in hmv that morning :-S dont wanna wait for amazon to post it to me 7 weeks is long enough cant wait another one for the postman :-)

Any chance of you letting us know about the special features? will all the shorts off here be on there? or the pilot episode? :-) thanks again and glad you're enjoying the cake and champers lol

  • Comment number 53.

I hate party rings. Jammy dodgers or Jaffa cakes are a whole different story though.

  • Comment number 54.

eagles_eyes, I don't think people are nit-picking as much as pointing out that this show appeals to much more than a BBC3 audience, and that maybe BBC could wheel it out elsewhere and secure us enough viewers for a THIRD series, too.

    We're just thinking ahead.. ;P

  • Comment number 55.

This is great news. This is one of the best dramas the BBC has done recently -never mind one of the best supernatural dramas. Way better than Torchwood. The writing is excellent - funny and still scary too. The characters are being allowed to develop and grow, especially Annie, and you really care about them. And what a great villain is Herrick? Really creepy. I'm 43 - so this is not just a drama for twenty somethings. The analogy with being alienated from society, not feeling you fit in and looking for people you can connect with is beyond just a fantasy drama. I'd love to find out how Mitchell and George met. Perhaps the BBC will put it on BBC2 - a lot of people don't have digital yet and are missing out.

  • Comment number 56.

    ABSALUTLY FANTASTIC NEWS!!!
easily the best show on TV at the moment and thank god the BBC listened to its viewers, it makes the ending of series 1 just a little bit easier to take
Also I agree with the age thing, i'm 19 and a lot of my mates love the show, well done toby whitehouse & all the team :-)

  • Comment number 57.

If we're still bidding on clothes and props, Seeing as no one seems to appreciate the retro look I'll give you 99p for Georges orange shirt and a scrap of gnome wallpaper - it reminds me of my nans house.

  • Comment number 58.

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 59.

Btw is that a picture from the wrap party? If it is then, I can't help but notice that the cast all dress a lot like their characters. That's kinda cool and makes me wonder if they had any influence on their costumes.

  • Comment number 60.

    yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

amazing first series so far, can't wait for the last episode!!!

congrats to all involved in this series, and seriously looking forward to series two!!

  • Comment number 61.

    |Miss_Beadie - looks like a photo on set from episode three to me. Gilbert's 80s night?

  • Comment number 62.

Yup I was just about to say that you beat me to it.
they all have exactly the same attire on as they do in Ep 3

  • Comment number 63.

Yeah was just gonna say i think its an ep 3 pic in memory of Gilbert (RIP) :-) think lenora must be sick to the back teeth of those clothes by the end of filming doubt shed wear them to the party :-) i left a comment earlier and it hasnt shown up hmm very odd

  • Comment number 64.

I have never signed up for anything like this before (and therefore I am not entirly sure what to write.......so its pretty much a ramble, sorry!!! :o) )but hearing the brilliant news that Being Human is coming back for another series made me just have to!!!!!

I have found the writing, casting, characters and story combine to make this to be really compelling viewing. So very wity - and so addictive!!!
Thank you!!! I am looking forward to it already. :o)

  • Comment number 65.

I thought it might be from episode three but I thought Annie was wearing her usual cardie in that episode. This looks more like the top she is wearing in the preview for episode 6.

  • Comment number 66.

woohoooo!!! so so happy about this!!!

ok so now, how long we going to have to wait???

  • Comment number 67.

YEAY im sooooo happppppieeee i simply love this series soo much that im going on about so much got some of my friends watching to. Im 25 and my friends or all between 25 to 53 so not just for the younguns. im with OH_SUZY ill be there at hmv first thing on april 20th.

    is there any cake left?!!!!

  • Comment number 68.

    Yep we made lots lol

It does look a bit different (annies cardigan) but i think maybe its just pulled across? she has about 3 i think its on here somewhere but i think she has 3 slightly different ones hmmm someone watch ep 3 for me and finf out lol i cant watch them online only download them and 3's has run out now :-(

  • Comment number 69.

I am sooooo happy there is going to be a second series, I can't believe there is only one episode left in series 1. Well done to everyone involved, you're all brilliant!

  • Comment number 70.

Fantastic news. have loved the show ever since I saw the pilot last year and the series has got better and better. Best thing on TV at the moment! Well done

  • Comment number 71.

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 72.

yay! this is great news. I can't wait for series two and series one hasn't even finished yet! it'll be a difficult wait, though. Well done BBC for making the right decision!

  • Comment number 73.

RE: Miss_Beadies question (comment #59). The photo in this article was taken on set during the nightclub scene where we first meet Gilbert. The costumes aren't spot on because it was a relaxed photo taken while the actors were taking a break. Hope that answers your question :o)

However, you're right in saying that Annie's costume does vary slightly throughout the series. To find out exactly how, check out our guide to the Being Human costume and make-up depts.

  • Comment number 74.

I'm absolutely pleased with Being Human being recommissioned. I saw the pilot and thought it was good, but I'm glad you guys re-casted some of the actor/actress I felt the chemistry was lacking between the characters in the pilot.

I'm normally not much of a die hard sci-fi fan but what I love about this programme is the character match ups seems very odd but they're all likeable. And one of the best programmes on BBC3 I've seen in a while. :-)

  • Comment number 75.

Haaaaah - I get to this page by googling the words being human & it used to come up with a link not unsurprisingly called
    'being human'
now it comes up with a link that states
'BBC3 - Never afraid to try new stuff that gets under 35's talking'
I'm glad they've clarified what a younger audience is - it's nice to know 27 is young! Sorry all you 35+ s you've totally lucked out!

  • Comment number 76.

Glad that there will be a 2nd series! It is a really good, interesting programme. I watched it on BBC I player, as I don't have BBC3, so that's a good 'service'. Aiden Turner (who plays Mitchell) is really good looking and plays the role well.

  • Comment number 77.

Well, as a 44 year old totally hooked on this first class comedy drama, I won't object to being called old. The commisioning of second series is completely justified,

For those that remember, (and with apologies to "Not the nine o'clock news") I think the television licence fee is far too low. I would have willingly sold my house and all its contents to help the BBC to provide us with a second series of Being Human!

  • Comment number 78.

Julst wanted to say that being human has been the main topic of conversation for me and my friends for the last month. We all think its the best thing on tv and are over the moon we are going to get a second series. Russell Tovey is brilliant as George. He is a young man with a brilliant career ahead of him. Loving Lenora and Aiden too tho. Thanks bbc 3 for making sunday nights brilliant.

  • Comment number 79.

That's excellent news! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for when you start filming... I think you should have me as an extra as I'm only down the road ;)

  • Comment number 80.

By the way I'm also not a younger viewer I'm 29, all my friends watch it who are of a similar age so it's certainly not just for the youngsters :)

  • Comment number 81.

Yeay i havent had cake in ages!!!

Once again just great news cant wait for later tonight. but im sad the last ep for a while. i dont no what im gona do till the new series but at least we get a dvd. but as the dvd is coming out so soon i doubt the 1st series will be showen on the normal chanels (thats bbc 1 and 2) or no one will buy it a part from us freaks that is

  • Comment number 82.

    FANTASTIC news :-)

    WHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Comment number 83.

I prefer th term 'fans' rather than 'freaks' ;)

    This is brilliant!
Cannot wait till it's back on again! After tomorrows episode i don't know what i will do until the second series... Probably buy the dvd and watch it everyday ;)

I read somewhere that the second series would be an 8 episode series. Is this true?

    Pass the cake :)
*Starts dancing to 'Barbie Girl' which seems to be on loop*

  • Comment number 84.

sorry but i think abit of freak never hurt anyone

  • Comment number 85.

Fabulous news! This has been one of the best things I've watched for years and I've absolutely loved every bit of it.

One thing though, it's a shame Gilbert was only there for one episode. He was great....don't suppose he'll be making a surprise come back?! ;-D

  • Comment number 86.

Excellent news, simply the best thing on tele. The house is about 5 minutes walk from where I live so i'll keep you posted for activity- none to be seen this afternoon though, all empty inside!

  • Comment number 87.

WOOO WHOO AMAZING!! i'm so glad there will be another!! and lets hope after that there will be another!!

  • Comment number 88.

    Excellent news!!!Congratulations everyone.

  • Comment number 89.

    yay! yay! double yay!

Really happy for you lot, hope we don't have to wait too long for series 2! waiting for the last episode of the series is killing me! lol

Pat on the back to all the cast, crew and BBC Three peoples for a great show! Can't wait to see what you have in store for series 2! but please please don't lose any of the main 3!

  • Comment number 90.

Oh hurry up!!!!! HOW CAN YOU LEAVE EPISODE 6 LIKE THAT???

lol its just such a good job we knew about series2 before the last episode it softens the blow ever so ever so slightly :-(

  • Comment number 91.

fantastic...I love it ....feeling depressed I have to wait for series 2... hope it is soon.... I had to fast forward to the end so I could enjoy the episode...

  • Comment number 92.

OMG!!! I just watched the finale and episode 6 was the best yet! I can't wait for series 2 thank you BBC!!!

  • Comment number 93.

OMG!!!!! I honestly can't put into word's how HAPPY i am to hear this!. Well done everyone for making such an amazing show, you have every right to be so proud of yourselves!. Roll on series 2!!!!!. x

  • Comment number 94.

    Amazinggg :)
cant wait till the next series (L)(I)
& is the cast changing ?!!:O
because if so thats a bit shit likes..

    x

  • Comment number 95.

great can not wait bring on the angels demons witches and sorcers and all the creatures from the dark side of humanity.

also thanks for showing the duality of wot makes us such an interesting species.

  • Comment number 96.

Yipee!! 45 and lovin it.You've made my day well night actually! best thing on tv.

  • Comment number 97.

    *does a happy dance*

We need more than 8 episodes this time though. Come on BBC if you can make 13 episodes of "Merlin" you can do the same for Being Human (which is infinitely superior in my, perhaps biased, view . . . )

  • Comment number 98.
