BBC HD To Broadcast Michael Jackson Memorial Live Tonight

Post categories:

Hi All,

I want to bring you news hot off the press that BBC HD will be carrying the Michael Jackson Memorial live from LA tonight.

We'll be starting at 6pm, and will aim to stay with it till the close (expected at 7.30, but it feels like one of those things that could extend some way beyond that). High emotion, great music, and tributes from those who knew and were inspired by him. Do watch, and set your recorder if you can't get to your TV in time.

We will try to show it again over the weekend, but it is likely to be one of those moments you just want to be part of when they happen. Apologies too - I took the view it was worth displacing Doctors, but can promise a double bill tomorrow to compensate.

Ah yes, Doctors, the best show the BBC currently produces but always shoved around to make room for something else.

    Thanks Danielle

I knew Sky was covering it, excellent news that you have taken the HD feed. Looking forward to the new season of Coast in HD. Do you have any info on Rivers which I saw in the preview this morning.

    Regards

Excellent, thank you so much!!! I'm very much looking forward to this HD broadcast :-)

Fair enough - BUT please don't alter the 9PM Torchwood (part 2) start.

As well as being great drama - the picture on HD was lovely.

    Cheers, daveac

I have no interest in watching but Kudos to Danielle Nagler. Another high profile scoop for the channel on your tenure.

I am not impressed with how the broadcast cut off whilst i was recording and also the sky+ issue where the EPG was not updated
It would be good if the channel could repeat the broadcast at the weekend as i was unfortunate enough to miss the last 30 mins of the service :(

Please BBC show a repeat of the Michael Jackson memorial, I sky+ it on BBC2 however as it ran over SKY+ got confused and missed the end off!! Not very happy!

    Dear francovincenzo and cosmicloopylou

We are investigating why the EPG didn't update correctly. Can you let me know what time your recording finished as the EPG was updated more than once

    Andy

Please show a repeat of Michaels Jacksons Memorial, I sky + it and it stopped about 5 mins from end, just as the kids singing where leaving stage, why it didnt update i dont know, please please I missed the best bit.

I was out and my wife didn't know it was in HD. Perhaps you could tell us well in advance what time it'll be repeated at the weekend.

I'm gutted tonight, had night already arranged when i heard the Jackson Tribute would be screened, so i trusted the SKY+ to record it for me to watch when back home. Only thing is it stopped at 104 minutes therefore missed the rest. I've since been searching for a scheduled repeat but haven't been able to find one. Could you please organise a repeat as it seams a lot of people are in the same boat. If so could this be made public asap as i'm away for the weekend, i can make other arrangements.
    Thanks
    Chris

My sky+ stopped recording after 106 minutes so similar to chrisbrass a repeat that is well publicised and put on the epg would be appreciated as danielle hinted at a repeat showing plz I need to see the conclusion of this historic event Regards

Thank you very much Danielle. My sky+ lost signal due to the heavy rain and thunderstorms in the south east, I got to watch about 20 minutes so I'm devastated to have missed it. I don't have HD yet so can you please please repeat it on an SD channel as well. There are so many people who missed some of the memorial and are desperate to watch it.

Here, here! It is nearly 2am and I am here thrawling through the web trying to find the next scheduled broadcast of Michael's memorial. I recorded it on my Sky+, but it cut off after 95 minutes. I was well gutted. Don't want to watch it online. Please give us advanced notice of when it will be on at the weekend. Thanks very much.

I would also like the chance to see it in full as I missed it yesterday :( Also, my recorder missed the beginning as it played up, and then missed the ending as the memorial lasted longer than was scheduled in the tv guides (which is understandable, I understand that one cannot predict timings of such events exactly).

In commomn with the above posts, I would a re-airing please, in HD for the above people, but also on one of your Freeview channels for someone like me who does not have Sky. Many thanks indeed. :(

Hi, I can't believe I missedthe memorial broadcast! Does anybody know when there will be a repeat?

  • Comment number 18.

    I enjoyed it

  • Comment number 19.

    Dear Andyquested

My sky+ did appear to update but still actually stopped recording at 104 mins just as the Heal the world song was finishing, so missed all the good bits at the end.

Are BBC going to show a repeat this weekend? on SD not HD or both as I dont have HD,

    THANKS

Fantastic! Five did not show the full ceremony so BBC Two was the only chance to watch the memorial service in full on non-Freeview TV, and BBC HD the only chance to watch the service in HD for non-Sky subscribers. It's no wonder it was one of the most watched BBC Two programmes of recent times.

    Thank you!

    Hi Andy

I have a Virgin V+ box and the EPG on that did not update so I had to manually record. I recorded for 2 hours from 6.30 to 8.30 so also missed the end. I have a Sky HD box in the kitchen which I can not record on (only get the F.T.A. chanels) and on that the EPG did change several times but obviously did not work properly for people wno tried to record.I have noticed before that the Virgin EPG did not update when there was a change in schedule but the Sky box did. Are you aware of this?

Please, please, please repeat the memorial service. I did a completely idiotic and stupid thing and accidently deleted it from my Sky+. I have been beating myself up all day about it. I wanted to press the keep button and pressed the delete button instead.

I am, and have been a huge MJ fan, all my life, like many others. And I felt privaledged to have witnessed his memorial service. But I am devastated that I deleted it.

    Please repeat it. Emsg86

As an afterthough to my previous post, I've just check the programme listing for the weekend and see that there is a film on BBC2 at 12:25pm (Fire Down Below). Now I know that many people may be looking forward to watching this, but I feel that maybe this could be pushed aside for a couple of weeks. Just so we can get to see a part of musical and life history played out again.

I truly hope you will repeat the service.

    Thanks

I would like to agree with all those asking for a repeat of the concert - we too trusted our Sky+ to record it and it didn't work! Absolutely devastated. I really wanted to see this concert and this very special goodbye to a true star.
Please please please please BBC - repeat this concert and make it public knowledge, even if it's on at daft o'clock so we can at least record it!!

  • Comment number 25.

My sky+ also missed the end of the programme. PLEASE can you repeat the whole memorial service.

  • Comment number 26.

    See Danielle's update here.

Clearly a LOT of interest in this. However, why did it need to take up huge chunks of the schedule on THREE of the BBC channels?
I thought that the idea behind the multi channel world was to give us choice in what we watch, so it makes no sense to take up so many channels with the same thing. Especially when so many rival broadcasters were also covering it, reducing our choice even further.
I can understand showing on both SD and HD, because everyone has to admit that HD is not available to anything like enough people.
But why BBC2 and News24 (or whatever its official name is now)?
I would have thought that either it was important enough to be available on digital and analogue (thereby admitting that digital has not yet got sufficient coverage for the really important stuff), and so be on 1 or 2, or (since we are expected to believe that digital channels are serious and accepted by all of the public) shown only on a digital channel leaving the prime schedules unaltered.

Hi all, I've been checking the Sky A-Z every day since the memorial service hoping it will be repeated and I have found it! I hope the Beeb don't mind me mentioning a different channel as we're all fans - the service will be repeated today at 11AM and 8PM (BST or GMT+1) on BET, which is Sky channel 191. It's also shown at 12PM and 9PM (BST or GMT+1) on BET +1, Sky channel 198. I'm recording as many showings as possible in the hope that weather won't mess up the recording again. Please circulate this as much as possible as there are many like myself that didn't get to see it and now have the chance.
