Our childhood heroes...

It's fifty years since Yury Gagarin the Soviet cosmonaut became the first human being in space. His mission captured the imagination of little children - and adults - across the world.

I'm interested to know who your childhood hero was and why? Did you have a dream of becoming a space man or woman, a train driver, a super-hero, a vet or nurse? Did you change your mind about what you wanted to be as you got older?

I think I wanted to be a novelist or a ballet dancer. I used to write long, complicated diaries even at the age of 6! They make me laugh when I read them now.

Ps: My English is not good, when writing like this, I hope I can improve it. Thanks!

    Hello, Alice
Now I’m forty. I remember, when I was a child, my father read a lot of books and magazines about astronautic. He was retired military flyer in that time. A lot of his contemporary was captured by romantic of astronautic. The flight of Jury Gagarin was an event of his life.
I have never been interested in this theme a lot. Obviously, the point is that my generation had been heard reports about space flights more often, and of course all of them were presented as political events. Lost one irritated me a lot.
My hobby was drawing. And now I’m designer. I have never had one person whose life could be a model for my life. There are a lot of people whose authority helped me to make a choice. My grandpa’s life, for example, is a standard in many situations in my everyday life, but my way is mine. I have chosen my way and still follow it.
    Best regards

    Hi Alice,
I had a hero for a long time: Vinnetou. I saw the film when I was 8 or 9 and fall in love with him :-) I imagined that I am his younger sister, we live together in pueblo, he teaches me to ride a horse... Well, childhood is a nice time. A lot of dreams...
    Have a nice day,

Dear Alice, I'm 55 and about dreams I can tell - I think so - two things are really very important: first, to realize the dreams one never... dreamt; second, to continue to have dreams, big or small it's the same. For exemple, in the rest of my time, to learn English...

    Hello Alice,

My childhood hero was Mejor Ziaur Rahman. But before i understand everything he was killed by assassin after five months later of my born . He was president of Bangladesh . I saw him on Tv to work for this country 'Bangladesh'. He was smart army person and he led his life honestly. In his funeral, large number of people had attended. I wanted to be like him. For few reasons I cannot join in defence but I want to be a good person like him.

Thank you for sharing your nice writing on your childhood hero and I am pleased to give us the opportunity to write on our childhood hero.

    Hi Alice!
What an interesting topic! My childhood hero is a doctor, the first doctor i met. It's not any stranger man, he is my father. I often got sick when a child and i understood how nice it is when I have a doctor by my side. I felt so safe despite of being sick. Because i knew that i'll be alright soon. I thought that Doctor is the noblest job of all. I wanted to be a doctor and have a husband as a doctor. The fact that i still thought so in highschool. But now, i'm an economic student. I used to regret this but i gradually realise that childhood dream and current life are not the same. I'm satisfied with my current life and i believe i'll become a rich business.
Anyway, i still want to be the wife of a doctor! :)

Erm! Who were used to be my child hero?......when I were used to be a Knee high to a grasshopper.. Not really.

I think since I have born I never dreamt about a hero who really I like though I remember a picture of Rashid Minhas who were martyred during his test f-16 flights there were so many stories about his accidental death anyways I guess he might be my hero cause I thought about him that he was very brave and very intelligent and someone who can really inspire us.

When I grew and started developed some understanding about surroundings I had a soft corner for Benazir Bhutto that she was first prime minister of Pakistan. At that time and till to date I really impressed by her education, intelligent mind, personality and her elegance behavior that she shows during her life. She was really such a brave lady I can’t forget the moment when I heard a news about her assassination I remember I were at my house door and I just push the bell of my house and father in law had opened the door with a breaking news that Benazir Bhutto has been martyred .

When this news suddenly struck into my mind I felt that someone has thrown a big stick in to my head with full fledge power and for a few second I felt complete darkness in front of me and I were waving with the sparks into my mind.

As far as question about what I want to be when I were young is concern I were planned to be a doctor but due to some ghastly circumstances’ and some of domestics’ problems I could not fulfill my dream. I were very intelligent and I were scoring A grades in my earlier studies but later on I couldn't maintained my grades anyways I am much satisfied at the moment whatsoever I am I think I am much better in regardless of huge presence of difficulties and problems faced and facing in my life.

Yes I have changed my mind and done graduate in commerce which has entirely changed my life career and has a good impact on my professional career and nowadays I am associated with a reputable company in a business development department and taking a healthy salary. As you may know that ours desires never ends so like other I also looking for a better opportunity.

Hello again everybody - I am pleased because this system is now publishing my posts! Hurray.

It's so interesting to read your messages. Bana both you and Nguyen Thuy Dung wanted to be doctors - but fate changed the course of your lives.

Bana - I once saw Benazir Bhutto in Bush House, the Home of the World Service. She must have been coming here to do an interview. She was very dignified and I remember thinking what a complicated life she must have had. It must be very difficult to be on the 'public stage' and know that many people don't support who you are or what you do.

Sgtivan - I haven't heard of Jaspion so I am going to look him/her up now and find out what he/she is. Is it a manga hero?

Dear Alice! Nice to know that you had met with her once in your life, it’s been a very honorable moment for you to have met such a big I am little bit sure.

I wish that I could have that chance, there is no doubt that she was a dignified lady as well as harder in her life although she was very gently politician and also was a great mother.

I agree with you that it’s very difficult to be on the ' Public Stage’ for the first time but as far as her popularity is concern she was the daughter of Zulfiqar Bhutto who were martyred by a dictator in 1977.So it was not quite easiest for her to attract a lot of people not only from Pakistan also from others countries as people were hoping that after Zulfiqar death she is only one who can lead them successfully and can lead his party i.e. PPP League.

Therefore there were a huge public who were ready to support her at that time in spite of opposition and she was known as bibi with respects.

She will remain in our hearts till our death and we will pray for her to rest her soul in heaven.

    Hi Alice
When I was a child, my father read a lot of books and fairy tales for me .It is very funny. In the fairy tales ,my favorite cartoon person is Peter Pan who never get old never has irritation.Because he can do anything he want, he also does not need to read bored textbook. But the most important thing is he can fly. He can fly in the air with cloud. Besides, he often fight with his enemy Mr.Hook in order to save his friends. This is why he is my favorite guy.In my mind, he is a brave and funny guy.

Thank you for sharing your nice writing about your childhood hero and I also very happy to share my childhood hero
