Memory Tapes: 26 April 2013

This weeks' Memory Tapes come from Emma Robinson, who risides and that there Australia. She says: “My friend Anna was on the show a few weeks back with the first volume of our Action Women tapes - she said you guys enjoyed it so much that you might be interested in sampling another vintage, so here is the track listing for Action Women volume 4!

"Fast forward a few years to a point where me might actually be legally old enough to be doing interpretive dances in our local indie discos, only to find that we still are. You know the story of how these tapes came into being so I don't need to retell it - but I will tell you that I sat in my house in Australia crying happy tears listening to Anna on the internet, and then danced around laughing like a giddy fool to the whole of the moon. Funny how music can so instantly transport you to a very specific place in your life.

"I have two young daughters (3 years, and 3 months) and I have so many hopes for their lives, but one of my biggest is that when they are in their thirties they can talk to the friends of their teenage years and share memories and music like this. The world seems a scary place to be young these days but if they have friendships like these I know they will be safe.

Anyway.....on to the music!"

This looks like a cracking memory tape. Emma must be of the same vintage and flavour as me as it would have sat nicely amongst my myriad of compilation tapes some years ago. It looks so good, in fact, that I've had to go and build it on Spotify (minus the tracks by Credit to the Nation and Oasis!). Twenty years on and still discovering new music from my youth, as it were. Brilliant tape and a fantastic show Team Lauren, even if I do only get to listen post-broadcast on iPlayer. I'm now off to dig out the the twin memory tape to this one as I missed it first time around. Keep up the good work.

This is brilliant. Have now found both instalments of Action Women. I too spent many a happy night in The Venue around the same time as I was in student housing around the corner. (I seem to remember Paul Oakenfold being the support act for Flowered Up towards the end of my time there.) Anyway, a fantastic tapes Emma and Anna! I am going to start a social media campaign until you put up the tracklistings for all seven volumes of the Action Women memory tapes as they both capture moments that were very special to you both, but also a great record of the music doing the rounds at that time. Please post the listings online somewhere and comment here!
