MPFree: The Weary Band – She Lives On Serenity Mountain
Ashley Team Laverne
You all know how much we love the wist on this show. The swaying whimsy of corduroy trousers invoking the beauty of the countryside and Nick Drake. And that’s what Bristolian quartet The Weary Band do so well.
This is the opening track from fourth album Serenity Mountain out 26th March. They were a former Headphone Moment on the show and you can see why. Leading members Tim and Alex met when they were about 17 at sixth form college and spent most Friday nights “drinking, indulging in ridiculous, mammoth jams and recording Tim's songs on a 4-track tape machine.” They write, record and release their own music and this is the first new material we’ve seen since previous album Leaving the Country. They say that not much has changed except that 4 tracks have now become 8, with almost all of the band's songs recorded on an old Otari 8-track desperately in need of a service - during the recording of Leaving the Country the machine had to be balanced on a stack of dictionaries to make the loud clicking sound stop.
