Lucy Hedges joins us every week to talk tech and give us her picks of the week.
Gadget of the Week – aFrame Airless Art Speaker System
This is a customisable picture frame-cum-loudspeaker designed to blend the world of music and art. It looks like a traditional wooden picture frame, but a high-fidelity speaker system lurks inside. You can play stuff from your personal music collection, or from internet radio, by connecting your devices to the system through Bluetooth.
Website of the Week – www.someoneoncetoldme.com
This website was developed whilst photographer Mario Cacciottolo was travelling the world. Each black-and-white photo he has taken of someone is accompanied by them holding a sketchbook, with the message that has stayed with them written on it. You can then click through to get the full story. Mario uploads a new photo every day, and is now inviting people to send in their own snapshots to continue the Someone Once Told Me story.
App of the Week – Hipstamatic Oggl, iPhone
They might have had their thunder stolen by Instagram, but the original photo filter app is back. The revised Hipstamatic comes with five pre-set filters, to enhance photos of landscapes, food, nightlife, sunsets and portraits. There’s also the option to tinker further with effects before sharing your masterpiece. It’s free to download, but to use it you’ll need a quarterly or yearly subscription. There’s no word on an Android version at the minute, but a Windows Phone 8 edition is due later this month.
