This week's Memory Tape comes from Hayley Avron, and it's the tape that keeps on giving...

Hayley writes...

"My memory tape is one that was given to me, rather than one that I made - though I recently passed a copy of it on to a friend, thanks to the wonders of modern technology...

"This tape was sent to me by Graham Kemp - the guitarist in Urusei Yatsura... I can't remember exactly what year it was but judging by the fact that Kung Fu is on it, it was at least 1996 / 1997 (I'd have been about 16).

"I grew up in Tunbridge Wells and my band mates & I made a trip to Maidstone to watch Urusei Yatsura. A short while afterwards, I sent Graham a mix tape. A little while later, he returned the favour, with a tape entitled "summer tape for Hayley, courtesy of Graham Yatsura"

"I lost touch with Graham and I lost touch with the tape, too, until my brother brought a box of old tapes up to me & now I am never without it in my car. Looking back on that time, it was probably a pretty important moment, because it taught me that people in bands are - sometimes - just affable humans, who write people letters and send them mix tapes in the post...

"Recently, I made a copy of it on CD for my friend's birthday. The CD wasn't long enough, so she's missing out on a couple of tracks..."
