Brian Taylor's Big Debate

I'm rarely in Glasgow on a Friday but being at Pacific Quay today meant I was able to watch Brian Taylor's Big Debate programme as it went out live. Today he had an all-female panel of guests and an audience of opinionated adults and rather more shy schoolchildren.

We're getting a great response to this programme from listeners and, when the programme comes live from Pacific Quay, lots of BBC Scotland staff lean over the balconies to see and hear what's happening. Today, for example, I was rubbing shoulders with John Beattie and Annie McGuire while the programme Editor, John Boothman, was whispering in my ear and telling me about his plans to have outside broadcasts around the country. Dundee next week, he said.

All of which made it difficult to listen to the actual debate. I'm surprised Brian didn't stop the programme and tell the four of us to stop chatting.

The programme's on the BBC iPlayer, of course.

    Jeff,
Perhaps you need to spend more time in Glasgow on a Friday - and sort Good Morning Scotland out! The last thing I thought was I would be agreeing with Lord Foulkes but he is spot on about the inane giggling, dumbing down and the identity crisis that GMS finds itself in.

Your listeners are deserting you - please get some gravitas back into the programme. It used to be fantastic. And yes, stop reading inane texts from 'anonymous' or 'Dave' or 'Linda' out - these are meaningless without any context. Sort the programme out please!

Ah this is same 'Lord Foulkes' who's caught in a £54k expenses row, having charged taxpayers an average of £580 for each of his 94 visits to the upper chamber whilst on parliamentary business over the past financial year.

It's little wonder he finds time on his hands to critise Good Morning Scotland!

Good Morning has become truly dreadful. There is one presenter who seems to think that it's some kind of comedy show instead of a hard news programme. Constant requests for daft wee texts and stupid questions to guests regarding said texts. I'd rather listen to Radio 5 or even Radio 4. Mind you if you could get that Asthma as a regular along with Gary, now that is exactly how the programme should sound.
