Nothing But The Roof

It was my stupid idea to send Fred MacAulay up to the roof. I thought this would be an ideal way of signalling that summer was on its way. Of course, I should have reckoned on the Scottish climate. A roof party with everyone wearing body-warmers and fleeces was not what I had in mind.

This all happened in June 2004 when we were still working out of the BBC Scotland H.Q on Queen Margaret Drive. There's footage of that programme and the demolition progress on this week's video blog. There's also me wielding a golf club and actually making contact with a ball. Who needs the Ryder Cup when there's this kind of action available?

    As you noted, I don't get much BBC video here on the outside. I'm glad you chose YouTube, and not iPlayer.

    As to you wielding a golf club, we didn't actually see you, with the club, making contact with the ball. This could be another example of video trickery. I am unconvinced, but still have an open mind, if you have more facts to present.

    This installment of the Videblog was like an emotional rollercoaster for me. First, the utter fear in my heart at your threatening comments, then the joy of seeing a youthful Vic Galloway in the inspiring beat-combo The Numpties, and then I got weepy at the destruction of Queen Margaret Drive. The song 'This Used to Be My Playground' by Madonna comes to mind. Don't listen to it. You'll get upset.

    I look forward to making my videblog debut soon, but can't honestly say it will be any better than episode 2. Already a classic.
