Why doesnt the BBC local radio and TV cover Oxfordshire? Surrounding counties have radio stations e.g. Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, but not Oxfordshire. There is a BBC radio Oxford but its coverage doesnt extend beyond 'Town and Gown' similarly 'local' TV covers as far afield as Hampshire, the New Forest, the Isle of Wight, Portsmounth, Southampton, and yesterday off the coast of Weymouth in Dorset, but West Oxfordshire, Cherwell Valley and the area of the county north of the county town, not a sniff. Its as if we dont exist, systematic community cleansing. Even the traffic reports describe the nearby motorway section of the M40 and Cherwell Valley services at junction 10 as being at Brackley, a full 7 miles away in a different county.
Increasingly not only is the accuracy of reporting at the BBC found to be wanting but also more sinisterly the ethos that at its conclusion will see us all as residents of the London conurbation, inhabitants of the south east, with some ridiculous lifestyle, heavily indebted, dependant on junk food, throwing tons of it away, with children that dont like vegetables and a lifestyle which can only be described as indicative of those at the BBC. You the BBC need to get out more. You are increasingly neither representative and nor do you connect with even your local communities.

How about looking at what people and politicians views would be on a new R4 political program called "The Yes/No Show" where MPs are invited on to answers questions but could only answer "yes, no or don't know" Imagine the respect an MP would get for having the courage to come on to a show like that. Am I the only one who pulls out their hair at Mandy's answers? Would others enjoy this program? Would MPs have the backbone?

In reply to TheLlaw, like the idea, I was more thinking along the lines of a TV program (done to a degree for laughs. My format would be

    1) An aggressive, incisive inquisitor type host (Eddie springs to mind? Jeremy is a bit too aggressive but could stand in for holidays)
    2) A representative from each main party
    3) No preview of the questions
    4) Ask the - very searching - question
    5) Then straight in to "Just a Minute" style. Silence the politician who deviates, repeats, or generally waffles. Allow the competition the free air time to score their points.
    6) The winner becomes HM Opposition and is allowed to draw a huge salary (and expenses) without having any real role or responsibility

    Teachers pay - the solution

Many teachers compalain of being underpaid and undervalued. Many non teachers complain of teachers being underworked and overpaid.

Let me propose a solution (and lots of side benefits)
    THE SOLUTION
    1) A full years pay for a full years work
    2) Teachers work (and schools are open ALL YEAR)
    3) Teachers receive financial reward for their additional work
    4) Pupils retain the same holidays overall but are scheduled and phased over a 5 or 6 semester year of which they attend 3 or 4 semesters
    THE SIDE BENFITS
    1) Reduced class sizes - more attention to the individual child
    2) Better utilisation of school property / resources - saves the tax payer money (pay for the teachers to work all year?).
    3) Spread of summer holiday times - even out the supply / demand chain and reduce the subsidy families with childen pay to those who can travel "out of season".

I'd like to see exactly what the govt mean by what other assets there are they could sell to bring down government debt. I don't want to see any more of what little's left of my country flogged off to the preferred (not necessarily highest) bidder. We've been royally stitched up with every one they've done so far.

I'd also be interested to know, since no-one's explicitly said, this money we borrowed and lent to the banks that they've subsequently repaid so they can pay their expletive-inducing bonii again. Who's paying the interest on that?

For some reason, I'm expecting the worst. It was the government who borrowed it on "our" behalf and so technically we're saddled with the repayments. What are the repayments, who are they going to, what's the quid pro quo and are the banks paying 100% of principal AND interest? If not, why not (and if not, can a private citizen (as a taxpayer) attempt prompt a legal move to surcharge the banks and ministers concerned a la Westminster homes-for-votes affair a few years back)?

Is this the most expensive plastic in the world? http://twitpic.com/lijd1

    How can Homebase justify this?

Of course, I can go elsewhere but this is so astonishingly expensive that I'm curious how they think they can justify it.
