I'd like to raise a point - Media Coverage of Protests.
Throughout January there were dozens of protests all around the country, plus the London marches against the violence in Gaza. Tens of thousands sacrificed their time. In total probably 250,000 took part altogether. It was hardly covered.
More coverage has been given to 20 protestors who've protested at the military parade in Luton this week.
Even more coverage was given to ONE protestor who threw a custard pie at Peter Mandelson to bring attention to her cause. (she was also given studio interviews)
News reporting has to be done responsibly. But you're simply creating an environment which encourages violent/outrageous protests in the future to draw attention to their cause.
Can you not recognise the fact that peaceful protests carried out within the legal framework deserve reasonable coverage? It needs to be proportionate.

Could the attack on a member of the BNP party have been actually by the BNP party itself? I suggest this theory as the BNP condemning what is really quite thuggish behaviour would seem to be a bit of the pot calling the kettle black as this is the sort of protest they could possibly be imagined of committing.
I would like to say I am opposed to all forms of violent behaviour whatever political party you belong to.

I was contacted today by a television company who wanted to include my business in a programme they were making... it would have cost my company £5,000 to feature in the programme. Has anyone else heard of this? I thought that was advertising not programming.

Radio Babes now in their 80's being squeezed out
+++++++++++++++++++++++
My Mother in Law was born in 1921.
Her childhood memories include recollections of her much older brother building a radio and neighbours being aghast and admiring. Apparently when a doctor was called she was described as a "radio baby".
Gradually the music and tastes of this our oldest generation are being squeezed out more and more. Obviously as they die there are less of them to listen.
It seems we should revere this generation and indulge them and rather than such as Paul Barnes' Radio Norfolk jazz and big band music programme being dumped from a 6 - 9 pm Saturday time slot to 11 pm - 1 am it should be moved to a central daily time of about an hour a day on Radio 2.
I have still not forgiven BBC for moving Pam Ayres on, after she took over Charlie Chester's programme on Sunday afternoons, years ago. I think it is time to reverse this trend.
I heard recently that Aztecs celebrate those with dementia whereas we just cast them aside and make them listen to Steve Wright etc., etc.. who has me turning the off switch before he has mouthed his first sentence.

How long does it take to become not "a new member"
Why doesn't membership of other BBC Messageboards, which presumably signifies appropriate postings, justify immediate "membership" here?
Do not the different parts of the BBC's Messageboards trust each other?

My post at 9.40 am appears immediately whereas the one at 9.36 is still queued for moderation.
Whoops, it seems as if left and right hands are on back to front, maybe?

I am an ex-pat Guernsey woman, now living in North Wales. The reciprocal health arrangement between the Channel Islands and UK will be rescined from March 31st. In future one will need to take out health insurance when visiting the Islands. I believe this also will apply to the UK.

I was perhaps unwise to save for my
old age ,as I now find my saving produce
less interest than inflation. The number
of Premium Bond prizes are so reduced
that chances of winning even £50
is zilch ; but I am considered too well
off to claim any benefits , and
must exist in the poverty of my
basic old age pension. So I have
spent the lot flying First Class
to join a Luxury Cruise.Brought
a nice new shiny car which
I am really too old and too scared
to drive in modern traffic ; but
now enjoy all the benefits available
to the feckless .

Is it a sign of old age , when my automatic
timer switches on to give me my 2 hour
ration of radio 4 , as I luxuriate under
the warmth of my electric Duvet. Only
to discover one again I have fallen
asleep without drinking my nightly
hot Chocolate ?

How unfair is this, I am travelling along a road at the correct speed doing everything right and a gas van does a u turn and does not see me. He crashes into my car. (A hairsbreadth from pushing me into oncoming traffic)
In one minute I turned from a disabled person with a roadworthy car into a person given not enough money to buy a car from the insurance company. I am currently stuck in my house with no transport through the madness of another driver.
We are not compensated for what we have spent on our car and the current road worthiness of our car is not taken into account.

As a Canadian with an MP3 player an a boring job I've found the BBC downloads invaluable: Both iPM and such a wide variety of other BBC content.
Having followed your MP expenses scandal I had an idea of how to address it and this seemed to be the best place to offer my modest proposal:
[sorry it isn't shorter]
As I understand it your government at some level operates 'council estates' which is what I gather we would call subsidized housing. At the same time the current scandal involves misuse of expense funds relating to secondary housing for MP's to maintain a London residence.
So what to do? The government can assign 'council estate' lodgings for MP's. At a stroke this would [1]Reduce the cost to the government as it would have to be cheaper than paying and policing MP's expenses, [2] Remove from MP's the temptation to fiddle expenses, [3] Give MP's a chance to connect with and see first hand the point of view of the constituents they are supposed to represent.

I keep trying to explain to my husband of 74 that we will need help to sort out the TV once the analogue signal is turned off, he says 'turn the TV off for good - how dare they fiddle with the TV - who pays the licence them or me - I shall stop paying them if they turn me off - who asked for this anyway' BBC are going to have a lot of bother with TV Digital - don't even try to explain digital DAB radio - I just get tuned into a station and it's gone - leave it all alone.
