This just in. "Ministers have approved a controversial plan to build a third runway at Heathrow, the BBC understands." (More here)

It's an issue that we've looked at before. What do you think now the plans have been approved?

It's so difficult to believe this is really happening.

Read Simon Jenkins in "The Guardian". Who are these business fliers and can the rest of us afford them now that they have robbed us? Think. Read Robert Tressel again.

"Joined-up government" has become a joke.

    Disgraceful decision.

The government is so out of touch it's ridiculous. Call an election now.

It demonstrates that the government's stated commitment to protecting the environment is a sham. They have completely destroyed any environmental credibility they may once have enjoyed.

It will be a nightmare for those who live under the flight path, and who will be enduring yet more aircraft noise, and the associated pollution.

We should be getting short haul travel onto rails, freeing up capacity for essential long haul travel.

It's a short sighted, and disastrous decision. It will further damage the environment and send out all the wrong messages.

The UK possibly does need an increased ability to handle air traffic but...
Seems obvious to me that Stansted has more political clout, so Heathrow it is then.
It would have made more sense, on the face of it, to go to the north side if we need more air traffic. It would also be easier as regards the possible high speed rail link they are talking about too.
And a sixth terminal as well! Look out the M25!!!
Do you think also that it might be nice if fully loaded aircraft did not always have to fly right over London?
