Who deserves the iPM New Year's Honour?

Eddie Mair | 11:57 UK time, Monday, 15 December 2008

(The Queen. Not in any way involved with this project.)

Nominate someone for an iPM New Year's Honour!

As you know, iPM is the programme that starts with its listeners. Their ideas and suggestions are what make our programme. This Christmas we're taking that one stage further.

We want to know who YOU would nominate for an iPM New Year's Honour. Ideally, someone who's not well known...they're covered in the official New Year's list. We want to hear about someone YOU know who deserves wider recognition.

Just email us their details and yours, and tell us why you want to nominate them. Our email address is iPM@bbc.co.uk. Please put HONOUR in the subject line. You'll need to make your nomination by midnight on Sunday 28th December.

There's no prize: just the honour of iPM making a fuss over the winning nominee. The iPM production team will choose from the names put forward and its decision will be final. No arguing!

That email address again: ipm@bbc.co.uk

There is a giant, of story-book stature, called Harry Hart (Honestly - that is his name) who started life in 'media' as a cameraman, winning some serious awards. From memory, he filmed the 1st British atomic test and the 1966 World Cup.

BUT FAR MORE IMPORTANT, HE WAS VISIONARY IN THE MATTER OF PLANETARY DISASTER AND RECOVERY.

I say again, this guy is a giant - one of the last. He deserves recognition.

I'd like to nominate two people:

    01. Andy Williamson was on kidney dialysis. His friend Maff Potts donated one of his kidneys.

So, Maff Potts does it for me. Brave and selfless!

    02. Hilda Gibson: Land Girl
I've chosen Hilda for what she and ALL "Land Girls" did for "us" during an appalling time in our history.

    An American. Bill Anders.

Anyone remember him today? How many of us had ever heard of him?

If mankind is, in some form, saved from self-inflicted environment disaster, unwittingly or not, this fellow got things going.

He's credited as having taken a Photograph 40 years ago on Christmas Eve which changed man's perspective of himself. Forever. As Al Gore says, "Within 18 months of this picture the environment movement had begun."

I would like to nominate my husband.- Michael Edward Garrett of MJA car Sales

    He is amazing -
At the age of 5 he contracted polio. Which has left him without the use of his legs & confined to a wheelchair.
He was one of the last group of chidren who contracted this illness , before mass vacinations took place.
He spent several years in hospital, in an iron lung.
He was lucky enough to be given a place at the boarding school for children with physical disabilities - Lord Mayor Trewloar. There he discovered he was not that 'disabled'.
Cutting a long story Michael has created & grown a very succesful Car sales /Car rental business.
He built up his business from selling cars from home, to now having 3 garages.
He works 7 days a week, leads by example, has never been unemployed.
He is an inspiration for the disabled & self employed.
Within the motor trade he is a legend. If you knows of him or think he is a worthy nominee, please support this. Thank-you

I last saw "Christmas" available at a 70% discount in my local Woolworths store.

Yesterday, the store closed-down and "Christmas" was gone.

If you held a "Post" in that Woolworths store then, I'm afraid, your "Post" has also now gone.

    Never to return.

I know I've seconded Hugh Sykes and I think I've seconded Hilda Gibson, the wonderful Land Girl too. It would be helpful to see who is up for the award. I do wish you'd present more than one - the Queen does oodles.
