Big thanks to Jon, the listener who alerted us just after 5pm yesterday to the BNP mailing list story with a perfectly succinct email, a link and the comment:

BNP Membership list - is this real?

The story had already broken online, but Jon's email alerted us and we passed it on to our colleagues at Westminster. As you've probably noticed it's been all over the news, yesterday and today.

Keep those story ideas coming in!

Interesting that the BNP are so angry about their members details being made public. Prominent BNP members have been linked to the website Redwatch. This site contains photos, names, addresses etc of antifascist campaigners, leftwing MP's and anyone whose lifestyle choices they don't agree with. The language used is derogatory and some people featured on the site have been attacked. Despite campaigns to close this site it is still active, apparently because the servers containing the information are based outside the UK. Articles written by Searchlight about Redwatch dating back to 2003 can be found online.
