The overdue recession will help us move on out of our current paradigm and help free up our thinking to allow innovation and novel ideas.

It sounds harsh but it is required and part of the natural cycle/order of things and gives the 'buds' of those ideas a chance to grow and be nurtured by forward thinking governments
(Take note Gordon!!! - a quick cut in VAT is not going to stimulate the economy in the long run - this will take a LONG time to get out of - 5-10 years at least)

These ideas will eventually turn into new industries moving towards a new 'green' paradigm aided by the knowledge and technology of the last era.

Where are all the new ideas?

Try the Patent Office [or Intellectual Property Office as it is laughably called now].
