Early Morning Sounds

Post categories:

Chris Vallance | 12:10 UK time, Wednesday, 5 November 2008

morning_sounds.jpgSome of you have sent us sounds to help with programmes, from songs about stories we're working on to musical washing up liquid bottles (don't ask).

We're currently turning your early morning stories into radio and we're trying to track down good early morning sound effects: milk floats, kettles, toasters, Gordon Lightfoot etc.

If you'd like to send in a sound for possible use (no longer than 30secs) please email it to iPM by Friday. We can't promise to use everything sent in so don't rush out and buy a digital recorder specially.

I would like to add a memory passed to me by my Grandfather.
When we were little he told us how shortly after the death of his eldest brother in WW1 the neighbours cat had got into his brothers pigeon loft and killed all the birds. On finding the birds dead his mother had killed the cat and chopped it up with the axe they used for cutting wood.
When I was young I remember thinking what a wicked, mad woman she must have been. Now I am older and the mother of 3 teenaged sons I find the story so sad, as I can now see that this is more a reflection of the utter despair she must have felt at the loss of her 19 year old son.
