Grade A?
Have you taken the the "Blog Readability Test"?
We have.
It's a page that finds out what level of education is required to understand your blog. So, we are not as bad as "Elementary", but not as good as "College". Our search for the best will go on. For the time being the verdict is - could do better.

hmm...
Before I begon, lets pretend this actual test works by the way(!).
Now - do you really want to have a blog that can only be easily read by people educated to a higher level - or do you want a blog that can be read easily by everyone?
If written more simply, it is not only accessible to a greater audience but is far more likely to be understood quickly and easily by everyone (no matter their reading age).
Remember, the average reading age in the UK is 9 (I believe).
This is quite a serious point by the way and has nothing to do with the fact that my blog scores "Elementary school"
[ahem]
I have just tested my blog and was surprised to achieve 'genius'.
One's style, vocabulary, composition and grammar (together with content, naturally) should announce to the potential reader the level of comprehension required.
The reader then, has the level of difficulty of the subject matter flagged quite early in the blog and can either continue or pass on to something easier.
One's blog is thus more likely to be read by those who would understand the content.
Most informative literature is written this way with a manual on 'join-the-dots drawing' presenting itself completely differently from, say, a treatise on 'cognitive behaviour therapy for the professional'.
If my blog has been awarded 'genius', then standards have dropped by an enormous amount, and we have indeed become 'dumbed-down'.
David,
Congratulations - I didn't know there was a genuis level. I thought that once you got to College then that was your lot. We are green with envy.
David added a second comment which got lost in the system; here it is:
My formal education finished at the age of eighteen, some 50 years ago. My working life was spent as an engineer. If I had to judge my blog on 'readability', I think I could be persuaded to grant it 'average'.
What do you think?

David.
So what do iPM readers think of David's blog? Does it deserve a blog readability level of "genius"?
