Selected for the Radio 1 playlist this week are Sundara Karma and their track Freshbloom. You might have heard it already on Fearne Cotton, Dev or Greg James’ show but fear not if you haven’t. You can listen to it below at your leisure and get it as part of Huw Stephen’s weekly download after his show tonight.

Hometown: Sundara Karma are Oscar Lulu, Haydn Evans, Ally Baty and Dom Cordell; all 17 and all from Reading, Berkshire. They’ve been making music together for three years after meeting at school.

Style: Freshbloom has been popping up on blogs and websites across the world since it was made available as a free download in July. It’s easy to hear why too as it showcases the band’s accessible, fun and innovative style. Fans of Peace, Swim Deep (who they recently supported on tour) and Vampire Weekend will relish Sundara Karma’s ability to use sophisticated psychedelic-indie to build and develop a tune into a real party.

You need to know: The band played our BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds Festival. You can watch their performance of Waves here.

Supported by: Sundara Karma have been regularly championed by Dave Gilyeat at BBC Introducing in Oxford and Linda Serck at BBC Introducing in Berkshire.

Find out more:  Follow the band’s progress on Facebook and Twitter for tour dates and news of upcoming releases.
