Music fans with their eyes firmly set on the hottest unsigned artists should have already come across the artist filling our BBC Introducing playlist slot this week. Rhodes and his track Your Soul has taken this week’s place on the Radio 1 playlist and you’ll be able to hear him across the daytime shows including Gemma Cairney, Fearne Cotton, Scott Mills and Greg James.
Hometown: Rhodes, otherwise known as David, is a singer-songwriter from Hitchin, a small market town in Hertfordshire.
Style: With vocals resembling the serenity and soothing quality of BBC Sound of 2014 winner Sam Smith, it’s no surprise that Sam invited Rhodes to support him on his European tour. Just over a year since picking up his first guitar, Rhodes was already jumping from Paris to Berlin to Amsterdam to play with Sam.
You need to know: Rhodes is one of many incredible acts to be playing on the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow on the weekend of the 24th and 25th May. Rhodes’ leap to musical success is an extraordinary one – the day we announced Rhodes’ place on our Big Weekend line-up was just the first anniversary of his first ever gig! He sent his first tracks to the Introducing Uploader only a year ago, just a matter of months after starting to learn to sing and play guitar.
Rhodes is already accustomed to playing to packed crowds having toured the UK and Europe with artists including Laura Marling, Vance Joy, London Grammar and Rufus Wainwright.
Supported by: Rhodes have been heavily supported by BBC Three Counties Radio and their BBC Introducing in Beds, Herts & Bucks programme.
