Huw's BBC Introducing Discovery (via Ally McCrae): Giant Fang - Aqualung

BBC Introducing DJ

Last week, Huw's BBC Introducing Discovery came courtesy of Ally McCrae, so who better to write us a blog post about it than the handsome Introducing champion himself.

Giant Fang appeared on my radar out of absolutely nowhere, and I couldn't have been more blown away.

It's the beautifully bizarre moniker of Glasgow native Doug Wilson and this huge, luscious synth-pop sound is all actually down to him (with a little help from Sky Larkin's Nestor Matthews on drums), keys, production and vocals all him - interestingly after originally planning it as a collaboration album with various singers, Doug ended up taking some singing lessons and doing it himself, I'm glad he did.

Recorded in between tours (Doug is actually a Tour Manager normally) he has a full album ready to go and if this track Aqualung (premiered for the first time anywhere out of his own bedroom on my BBC Introducing show on Radio 1) is anything to go by then you better hold tight for the rest. I for one can't wait.

Between Giant Fang and BBC Sound of 2013 top fivers' Chvrches - Glasgow is fast becoming a hot-bed of glorious synth pop, those that have visited know we've never been ones for the grey and rain-soaked image anyway.
