You may find yourself listening to one of Radio 1’s daytime shows this week and hearing the sound of KARI, the latest BBC Introducing artist to be chosen for a coveted place on the Radio 1 playlist. Her song The One will be played during the week by, among others, Dev, Fearne Cotton, Greg James and Scott Mills. Have a listen and tell us what you think in the comments section below.
Hometown: Kari Amirian is a singer-songwriter currently based in Leeds. In early 2013, Kari crossed paths with Jon Headley, Chris Headley, John Pullan and Callum Harvie and by December 2013, the group from Leeds released their album Wounds And Bruises.
Style: With Kari’s expertise in music, having studied at the oldest and largest music school in Poland, you can expect that every beat and every note is perfectly placed to construct a beautiful melody, especially on The One. As producer of Kari’s second studio album, Wounds And Bruises, Jon Headley has manifested his intricate electronic sounds onto The One, just as he did with his own band Modo Stare, who have also been backed by BBC Introducing in West Yorkshire.
Combine all of this with the track’s tribal-sounding drums and Kari’s soft indie-pop vocals and you have a playlist-perfect pop song.
You need to know: Kari has already been receiving critical acclaim in her home country, Poland. In 2013, Kari was nominated for a Fryderyk award, the Polish equivalent of the BRIT Awards, under the category Debut Of The Year.
Supported by: Alan Raw from BBC Introducing in West Yorkshire has been playing The One since it first appeared on the Uploader at the start of the year.
